Deuteronomy 12

1 These are the statutes and the judgments, which ye shall observe to do in the land which the LORD, the God of thy fathers, hath given thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.

Voici les statuts et les rites que vous garderez pour les pratiquer dans le pays que t'a donné pour en faire la conquête l'Éternel, Dieu de tes pères, aussi longtemps que vous vivrez sur la terre.

2 Ye shall surely destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:

Vous détruirez tous les lieux où les nations que vous allez chasser, rendaient un culte à leurs dieux sur les montagnes élevées, et sur les collines et sous tous les arbres verdoyants;

3 and ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods; and ye shall destroy their name out of that place.

et vous mettrez leurs autels en ruine, et briserez leurs colonnes et brûlerez au feu leurs Aschères, et mettrez en pièces les effigies de leurs dieux, et effacerez leurs noms de ces lieux-là.

4 Ye shall not do so unto the LORD your God.

Ce n'est pas de la sorte que vous en agirez avec l'Éternel, votre Dieu;

5 But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:

mais vous chercherez le lieu que choisira l'Éternel, votre Dieu, dans toutes vos Tribus pour y fixer son nom et y résider, et il sera votre Rendez-vous:

6 and thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock:

et là vous amènerez vos holocaustes et vos victimes et vos dîmes et les élévations de vos mains et vos oblations votives et volontaires et les premiers-nés de votre gros et de votre menu bétail;

7 and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.

et là vous ferez vos banquets devant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous réjouissant de tout le travail de vos mains, vous et les familles dont t'aura béni l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

8 Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes:

Vous ne ferez pas tout ce que nous faisons ici aujourd'hui, où chacun agit à son gré.

9 for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Car jusqu'ici vous n'êtes point encore entrés dans le lieu de repos et dans la propriété que te donnera l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

10 But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God causeth you to inherit, and he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety;

Mais ayant une fois passé le Jourdain, et vous étant établis dans le pays dont l'Éternel, votre Dieu, veut vous mettre en possession après vous avoir débarrassés de tous vos ennemis d'alentour, et parvenus ainsi à un état de sécurité,

11 then it shall come to pass that the place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there, thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:

alors, au lieu que vous choisira l'Éternel, votre Dieu, pour y fixer son nom, vous amènerez tout ce que je vous ai commandé, vos holocaustes et vos victimes, vos dîmes et les élévations de vos mains et le choix entier de vos oblations votives que vous aurez vouées à l'Éternel,

12 and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates, forasmuch as he hath no portion nor inheritance with you.

et vous vous réjouirez en présence de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous et vos fils et vos filles et vos serviteurs et vos servantes et le Lévite qui sera dans vos Portes, car il n'a ni portion ni lot parmi vous.

13 Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest:

Garde-toi de sacrifier tes holocaustes dans tous les lieux que tu auras en vue;

14 but in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.

mais c'est au lieu que choisira l'Éternel dans l'une de tes Tribus; c'est là que tu sacrifieras tes holocaustes, là que tu feras, tout ce que je te prescris.

15 Notwithstanding thou mayest kill and eat flesh within all thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.

Cependant toutes les fois que tu en auras le désir en ton âme, tue, et mange de la viande selon l'abondance dont l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira, dans toutes tes Portes; on en pourra manger dans l'état de pureté ou d'impureté, comme de la gazelle et du cerf;

16 Only ye shall not eat the blood; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

seulement le sang vous ne le mangerez pas, vous le verserez sur la terre comme de l'eau.

17 Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thine oil, or the firstlings of thy herd or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill offerings, nor the heave offering of thine hand:

Tu ne pourras manger dans tes Portes les dîmes de ton blé et de ton moût et de ton huile, ni les premiers-nés de ton gros et menu bétail, ni aucune de tes oblations votives que tu voueras et de tes dons volontaires, ni les élévations de tes mains;

18 but thou shalt eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

mais c'est devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu les mangeras dans le lieu que choisira l'Éternel, ton Dieu, toi et ton fils et ta fille et ton serviteur et ta servante et le Lévite qui est dans tes Portes; et tu te réjouiras en présence de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout le travail de tes mains.

19 Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest upon thy land.

Garde-toi de négliger le Lévite durant tout ton séjour dans ton pays.

20 When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul desireth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, after all the desire of thy soul.

Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, aura étendu tes frontières, comme Il te l'a promis, et que tu diras: Je veux manger de la viande; parce que ton désir sera d'en manger, tu pourras manger de la viande suivant tout le désir de ton âme.

21 If the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat within thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul.

Si le lieu choisi par l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour y fixer son nom, est trop éloigné de toi, tue une pièce du gros et du menu bétail que t'aura donné l'Éternel, ainsi que je te l'ai commandé, et manges-en dans tes Portes suivant tout le désir de ton âme;

22 Even as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so thou shalt eat thereof: the unclean and the clean shall eat thereof alike.

seulement tu devras en user comme on use de la gazelle et du cerf; on en mangera dans l'état de pureté et dans l'état d'impureté également.

23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou shalt not eat the life with the flesh.

Seulement tiens ferme à ne pas manger le sang, car le sang est l'âme, et tu ne dois pas manger l'âme avec la chair;

24 Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

tu ne le mangeras pas, tu le verseras sur la terre comme l'eau;

25 Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD.

tu ne le mangeras pas, pour que tu sois heureux, toi et tes fils après toi, en faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel.

26 Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which the LORD shall choose:

D'ailleurs, quant aux choses saintes et aux oblations votives que tu auras, prends-les et rends-toi au lieu qu'aura choisi l'Éternel,

27 and thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh.

et sacrifie tes holocaustes, la chair et le sang, sur l'Autel, de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et que le sang de tes victimes soit versé à l'Autel de l'Éternel, ton Dieu; quant à la chair, mange-la.

28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

Garde et observe toutes ces choses que je te prescris, pour que tu sois heureux, toi et tes fils après toi, jusqu'à l'éternité, en faisant ce qui est bien et droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

29 When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest in to possess them, and thou possessest them, and dwellest in their land;

Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, aura extirpé les nations que tu viens chasser devant toi, et que tu les auras chassées, et que tu seras assis dans leur pays,

30 take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

garde-toi de te laisser prendre au piège de leur exemple, une fois qu'elles auront été détruites par toi, ni attirer vers leurs dieux, pour dire: Le culte que ces nations rendent à leurs dieux, je veux l'imiter, moi aussi;

31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

n'agis pas ainsi envers l'Éternel, ton Dieu; car elles faisaient pour leurs dieux tout ce qui est l'abomination de l'Éternel et qu'il déteste, allant jusqu'à brûler dans les flammes, à leurs dieux, leurs fils et leurs filles.

32 What thing soever I command you, that shall ye observe to do: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Gardez pour les pratiquer tous les préceptes que je vous prescris, et n'y faites ni addition ni retranchement.
