< Amos 7 >

1 Thus the Lord GOD shewed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
‌ʻOku pehē hono fakahā mai kiate au ʻe he ʻEiki ko e ʻOtua; pea vakai, naʻa ne ngaohi ʻae ngaahi heʻe ʻi he kamataʻanga ʻoe tupu hake ʻae taʻu tokamui; pea vakai, ko e tokamui ia hili ʻae tuʻusi maʻa e tuʻi.
2 And it came to pass that when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.
He ʻoku siʻi ia.”
3 The LORD repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.
Naʻe fakatomala ʻa Sihova ʻi he meʻa ni: ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻE ʻikai hoko ia.”
4 Thus the Lord GOD shewed me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.
‌ʻOku pehē hono fakahā mai kiate au ʻe he ʻEiki ko e ʻOtua; pea vakai, naʻe ui ʻe he ʻEiki ko e ʻOtua ke tau ʻaki ʻae afi, pea naʻa ne kai ʻae moana lahi, pea ne folo ʻae vahe ʻe taha?
5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.
Pea naʻaku toki pehē, ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, “ʻOku ou kole kiate koe ke tuku ʻā: ʻe toetuʻu ʻa Sēkope ʻia hai? He ʻoku siʻi ia.”
6 The LORD repented concerning this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.
Naʻe fakatomala ʻa Sihova ʻi he meʻa ni: ʻoku pehē ʻe he ʻEiki ko e ʻOtua, “ʻE ʻikai hoko eni foki.”
7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
Naʻe pehē ʻene fakahā mai ia kiate au: pea vakai, naʻe tuʻu ʻae ʻEiki ʻi he fukahi ʻā naʻe ngaohi ki he afo fuofua, pea naʻe ʻai ʻae afo fuofua ʻi hono nima.
8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more:
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻAmosi, ko e hā ʻoku ke mamata ai?” Pea naʻaku pehē, “Ko e afo fuofua.” Pea ne pehē ʻe he ʻEiki, “Vakai, te u ʻai ʻae afo fuofua ki he lotolotonga ʻo hoku kakai ko ʻIsileli: ʻikai te u toe laka ʻiate kinautolu:
9 and the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
Pea ne toki fekau ʻe ʻAmasia ko e taulaʻeiki ʻi Peteli, kia Selopoami ko e tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻo pehē, “Kuo angatuʻu ʻa ʻAmosi kiate koe ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe fale ʻo ʻIsileli: ʻe ʻikai faʻa kātaki ʻe he fonua ʻa ʻene ngaahi lea kotoa pē.
11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.
Koeʻuhi ʻoku pehē ʻe ʻAmosi, ‘ʻE mate ʻa Selopoami ʻi he heletā, pea ko e moʻoni ʻe taki pōpula ʻa ʻIsileli mei honau fonua ʻonautolu.’”
12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
Pea ne pehē foki ʻe ʻAmasia kia ʻAmosi, “ʻA koe ʻoku mamata meʻa, ʻalu, puna atu ki he fonua ʻo Siuta, pea kai ai ʻae mā, mo kikite ai:
13 but prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house.
Kae ʻoua naʻa toe kikite ʻi Peteli he ko e falelotu ia ʻoe tuʻi, pea ko e nofoʻanga ʻoe tuʻi.”
14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a dresser of sycomore trees:
Pea naʻe tali ʻe ʻAmosi, ʻo ne pehē kia ʻAmasia, “Naʻe ʻikai ko e palōfita au, pe ko e foha ʻo ha palōfita; ko e tangata tauhimanu au, pea ko e tānaki [au ]ʻoe fua ʻoe sukamino:
15 and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
Pea naʻe ʻave au ʻe Sihova ʻi heʻeku muimui ki he fanga manu, pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, ‘ʻAlu, ʻo kikite ki hoku kakai ko ʻIsileli.’
16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not [thy word] against the house of Isaac;
Pea ko eni, fanongo koe ki he folofola ʻa Sihova: ʻoku ke pehē, ‘ʻOua naʻa kikite ki ʻIsileli, pea ʻoua naʻa tō [hoʻo lea ]ki he fale ʻo ʻAisake.’
17 therefore thus saith the LORD: Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; ‘ʻE hoko ho uaifi ko e fefine feʻauaki ʻi he kolo, pea ko ho ngaahi foha mo ho ngaahi ʻofefine, ʻe tō ʻi he heletā, pea ʻe vahevahe ho fonua ʻaki ʻae afo; pea te ke mate ʻi ha fonua pani ʻuli: pea ʻe ʻalu moʻoni ʻa ʻIsileli mei hono fonua ki he pōpula.’”
