2 Chronicles 14

1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Asa his son reigned in his stead: in his days the land was quiet ten years.

Und Abija legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sie begruben ihn in der Stadt Davids; und Asa, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt. Zu dessen Zeiten war das Land stille, zehn Jahre lang.

2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

Und Asa tat, was gut und recht war vor dem HERRN, seinem Gott.

3 for he took away the strange altars, and the high places, and brake down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim;

Denn er entfernte die fremden Altäre und die Höhen und zerbrach die Säulen und hieb die Ascheren um;

4 and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

und gebot Juda, den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, zu suchen und zu tun nach dem Gesetz und Gebot.

5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

Er entfernte auch aus allen Städten Judas die Höhen und die Sonnensäulen. Und das Königreich hatte Ruhe unter ihm.

6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

Und er baute feste Städte in Juda, weil in jenen Jahren das Land Ruhe hatte und kein Krieg wider ihn geführt wurde; denn der HERR gab ihm Ruhe.

7 For he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

Und er sprach zu Juda: Lasset uns diese Städte bauen und sie mit Mauern umgeben und mit Türmen, Toren und Riegeln, weil das Land noch vor uns liegt! Denn wir haben den HERRN, unsern Gott, gesucht; wir haben ihn gesucht, und er hat uns Ruhe gegeben ringsumher. Also bauten sie, und es gelang ihnen.

8 And Asa had an army that bare bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: an these were mighty men of valour.

Und Asa hatte ein Heer, das Schild und Speer trug, aus Juda 300000 und aus Benjamin 280000, welche die Tartsche trugen und mit Bogen schossen. Diese waren alle starke Helden.

9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah.

Aber Serach, der Mohr, zog aus wider sie mit einem Heer von tausendmal tausend, dazu dreihundert Wagen, und er kam bis Marescha.

10 Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

Und Asa zog aus, ihm entgegen. Und sie rüsteten sich zum Kampf im Tal Zephata bei Marescha.

11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, there is none beside thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength: help us, O LORD our God; for we rely on thee, and in thy name are we come against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee;

Und Asa rief den HERRN, seinen Gott, an und sprach: HERR, bei dir ist kein Unterschied, zu helfen, wo viel oder wo keine Kraft ist. Hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott, denn wir verlassen uns auf dich; und in deinem Namen sind wir gekommen wider diesen Haufen! Du, HERR, bist unser Gott! Vor dir behält der Sterbliche keine Kraft!

12 So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

Da schlug der HERR die Mohren vor Asa und vor Juda, daß die Mohren flohen.

13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much booty.

Und Asa samt dem Volk, das bei ihm war, jagte ihnen nach bis gen Gerar. Und von den Mohren fielen so viele, daß sie sich nicht erholen konnten, sondern sie wurden geschlagen vor dem HERRN und vor seiner Heerschar; und sie trugen sehr viel Raub davon.

14 And they smote all the cities round shout Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them:

Und sie schlugen alle Städte um Gerar her; denn die Furcht des HERRN kam über sie. Und sie plünderten alle Städte; denn es war viel Beute darin.

15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep in abundance and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.

Auch die Hirtenzelte schlugen sie und führten viele Schafe und Kamele hinweg und kehrten wieder nach Jerusalem zurück.
