2 Chronicles 11
1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
Lorsque Roboam fut arrivé à Jérusalem, il rassembla la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes d'élite qui étaient des guerriers, pour combattre Israël, afin de ramener le royaume à Roboam.
2 But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
Mais la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Shemaya, homme de Dieu, en ces termes:
3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
« Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout Israël en Juda et en Benjamin, et dis-leur:
4 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
« Yahvé dit: Vous ne monterez pas, et vous ne combattrez pas vos frères! Chacun retournera dans sa maison, car cette chose est de moi. »" Ils écoutèrent donc les paroles de Yahvé et s'en retournèrent après avoir combattu Jéroboam.
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
Roboam habita à Jérusalem, et il bâtit en Juda des villes pour sa défense.
6 He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
Il bâtit Bethléem, Etam, Tekoa,
7 And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,
Beth Tsur, Soco, Adullam,
8 and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
Gath, Maréscha, Ziph,
9 and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
Adoraïm, Lakis, Azéka,
10 and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fenced cities.
Zorah, Aijalon et Hébron, qui sont des villes fortes en Juda et en Benjamin.
11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and oil and wine.
Il fortifia les places fortes et y plaça des chefs, avec des provisions de vivres, d'huile et de vin.
12 And in every several city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
Il plaça des boucliers et des lances dans toutes les villes, et les rendit extrêmement fortes. Juda et Benjamin lui appartenaient.
13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.
Les prêtres et les lévites qui étaient dans tout Israël se tinrent avec lui de tout leur territoire.
14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office unto the LORD:
Car les Lévites quittèrent leurs pâturages et leurs biens, et vinrent en Juda et à Jérusalem; car Jéroboam et ses fils les avaient rejetés, afin qu'ils ne remplissent pas les fonctions de prêtres pour Yahvé.
15 and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.
Il établit lui-même des prêtres pour les hauts lieux, pour les idoles de boucs et de veaux qu'il avait faites.
16 And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Après eux, de toutes les tribus d'Israël, ceux qui avaient mis leur cœur à chercher l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, venaient à Jérusalem pour sacrifier à l'Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
Ils renforcèrent le royaume de Juda et affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans, car ils marchèrent trois ans dans la voie de David et de Salomon.
18 And Rehoboam took him a wife; Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
Roboam prit une femme pour lui, Mahalath, fille de Jerimoth, fils de David, et d'Abihail, fille d'Eliab, fils de Jessé.
19 and she bare him sons; Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
Elle lui donna des fils: Jeush, Shemariah et Zaham.
20 And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
Après elle, il prit Maaca, petite-fille d'Absalom, et elle lui enfanta Abija, Attaï, Ziza et Shelomith.
21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.)
Roboam aimait Maaca, petite-fille d'Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines; il prit dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.
22 And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, [even] the prince among his brethren: for [he was minded] to make him king.
Roboam nomma Abija, fils de Maaca, chef, prince parmi ses frères, car il avait l'intention de le faire roi.
23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he sought [for them] many wives.
Il fit preuve de sagesse et dispersa quelques-uns de ses fils dans tous les pays de Juda et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortifiées. Il leur donna de la nourriture en abondance, et il leur chercha beaucoup de femmes.
