1 Samuel 29

1 Now the Philistines gathered together all their hosts to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by the fountain which is in Jezreel.

Als nun die Philister ihre gesamte Heeresmacht bei Aphek gesammelt hatten – die Israeliten aber hatten sich an der Quelle bei Jesreel gelagert –

2 And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: and David and his men passed on in the rearward with Achish.

und die Fürsten der Philister nach ihren Hundertschaften und Tausendschaften aufzogen und zuletzt auch David und seine Leute mit Achis aufmarschierten,

3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell away [unto me] unto this day?

da riefen die Fürsten der Philister: »Was sollen diese Hebräer da?« Achis erwiderte den Fürsten der Philister: »Das ist ja David, der Diener des Königs Saul von Israel, der schon seit Jahr und Tag bei mir gewesen ist, ohne daß ich an ihm, seitdem er zu mir übergetreten ist, bis heute etwas Verdächtiges bemerkt hätte.«

4 But the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us: for wherewith should this [fellow] reconcile himself unto his lord? should it not be with the heads of these men?

Aber die Fürsten der Philister wurden ungehalten über ihn und sagten zu ihm: »Schicke den Mann zurück! Er soll wieder an den Ort zurückkehren, den du ihm angewiesen hast, und soll nicht mit uns in den Krieg ziehen, damit er nicht in der Schlacht zum Verräter an uns wird. Denn womit könnte der sich wohl besser in Gunst bei seinem Herrn setzen als auf Kosten der Köpfe unserer Leute?

5 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

Das ist ja derselbe David, dem zu Ehren sie beim Reigentanz das Lied singen: ›Saul hat seine Tausende geschlagen, aber David seine Zehntausende.‹«

6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, As the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.

Da ließ Achis David rufen und sagte zu ihm: »So wahr Gott lebt! Du bist ein Ehrenmann, und mir würde es lieb sein, wenn du den Feldzug mit mir im Heere mitmachtest; denn ich habe an dir nichts zu tadeln gefunden, seitdem du zu mir gekommen bist, bis auf den heutigen Tag. Aber den übrigen Fürsten bist du nicht erwünscht.

7 Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.

Daher kehre jetzt zurück und ziehe in Frieden heim, damit du nichts tust, was den Fürsten der Philister mißfällt!«

8 And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been before thee unto this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?

David antwortete dem Achis: »Was habe ich denn getan, und was hast du an deinem Knecht Verwerfliches gefunden, seitdem ich in deinen Dienst getreten bin, bis zum heutigen Tage, daß ich nicht mitziehen und kämpfen darf gegen die Feinde meines Herrn, des Königs?«

9 And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.

Da antwortete Achis dem David: »Ich weiß, daß du mir so lieb bist wie ein Engel Gottes; jedoch die (anderen) Fürsten der Philister haben erklärt, du dürfest nicht neben ihnen in den Krieg ziehen.

10 Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of thy lord that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.

Daher mache dich morgen früh auf den Weg, du und die Knechte deines Herrn, die mit dir hergekommen sind; brecht also in aller Frühe auf, sobald es Tag wird, und zieht ab!«

11 So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

So machte sich denn David mit seinen Leuten am nächsten Morgen in aller Frühe auf den Weg, um ins Land der Philister zurückzukehren; die Philister aber zogen hinauf nach Jesreel.
