1 Samuel 10
1 Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that the LORD hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance?
Samuel prit une fiole d’huile, et la versa sur la tête de Saül; puis il le baisa et dit: « Yahweh ne t’a-t-il pas oint pour chef sur son héritage?
2 When thou art departed from me today, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and taketh thought for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
Quand tu m’auras quitté aujourd’hui, tu trouveras deux hommes près du sépulcre de Rachel, dans le territoire de Benjamin, à Selsach; ils te diront: « Les ânesses que tu es allé chercher sont retrouvées; et voici, ton père a perdu de vue l’affaire des ânesses, mais il est en peine de vous et dit: Que dois-je faire au sujet de mon fils? »
3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the oak of Tabor, and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
De là, poursuivant ta route, tu arriveras au chêne de Thabor, et là tu seras rencontré par trois hommes montant vers Dieu à Béthel, et portant l’un trois chevreaux, l’autre trois miches de pain, et l’autre une outre de vin.
4 and they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hand.
Après qu’ils t’auront salué, ils te donneront deux pains, et tu les recevras de leurs mains.
5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall be prophesying:
Après cela, tu viendras à Gabaa de Dieu, où se trouve un poste de Philistins. En entrant dans la ville, tu rencontreras une troupe de prophètes descendant du haut lieu, précédés de luths, tambourins, flûtes et harpes, et prophétisant.
6 and the spirit of the LORD will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
L’Esprit de Yahweh te saisira, et tu prophétiseras avec eux, et tu seras changé en un autre homme.
7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
Lorsque ces signes se seront accomplis pour toi, fais ce qui se présentera, car Dieu est avec toi.
8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
Et tu descendras avant moi à Galgala; et voici, je descendrai vers toi, pour offrir des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Tu attendras sept jours jusqu’à ce que je sois venu vers toi et je te ferai connaître ce que tu dois faire. »
9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
Dès que Saül eut tourné le dos pour se séparer de Samuel, Dieu lui donna un autre cœur, et tous ces signes s’accomplirent le même jour.
10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them.
Quand ils arrivèrent à Gabaa, voici qu’une troupe de prophètes vint à sa rencontre; et l’Esprit de Dieu le saisit, et il prophétisa au milieu d’eux.
11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
Quand tous ceux qui le connaissaient auparavant virent qu’il prophétisait avec les prophètes, tous ces gens se dirent l’un à l’autre: « Qu’est-il arrivé au fils de Cis? Saül est-il donc aussi parmi les prophètes? »
12 And one of the same place answered and said, And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
Quelqu’un de la foule prit la parole et dit: « Et qui est leur père? » — C’est pourquoi cela est passé en proverbe: « Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes? » —
13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
Lorsqu’il eut cessé de prophétiser, il se rendit en haut lieu.
14 And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.
L’oncle de Saül dit à Saül et à son serviteur: « Où êtes-vous allés? » Saül répondit: « Chercher les ânesses; mais ne les ayant vues nulle part, nous sommes allés vers Samuel. »
15 And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.
L’oncle de Saül dit: « Raconte-moi ce que vous a dit Samuel. »
16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But concerning the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
Et Saül répondit à son oncle: « Il nous a appris que les ânesses étaient retrouvées. » Mais quant à l’affaire de la royauté, il ne lui rapporta pas ce qu’avait dit Samuel.
17 And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpah;
Samuel convoqua le peuple devant Yahweh à Maspha,
18 and he said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:
et il dit aux enfants d’Israël: « Ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël: J’ai fait monter Israël d’Égypte, et je vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens et de la main de tous les royaumes qui vous opprimaient.
19 but ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, [Nay], but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.
Et vous, aujourd’hui, vous rejetez votre Dieu, qui vous a délivrés de tous vos maux et de toutes vos souffrances, et vous lui dites: Etablis un roi sur nous! Présentez-vous maintenant devant Yahweh, selon vos tribus et selon vos familles. »
20 So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d’Israël, et la tribu de Benjamin fut désignée par le sort.
21 And he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families, and the family of the Matrites was taken: and Saul the son of Kish was taken; but when they sought him, he could not be found.
Il fit approcher la tribu de Benjamin par familles, et la famille de Métri fut désignée; puis Saül, fis de Cis fut désigné. On le chercha, mais on ne le trouva point.
22 Therefore they asked of the LORD further, Is there yet a man to come hither? And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.
Alors ils interrogèrent de nouveau Yahweh: « Est-il venu ici encore quelqu’un? » Yahweh répondit: « Voici, il est caché parmi les bagages. »
23 And they ran and fetched him thence; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
On courut le tirer de là, et il se tint au milieu du peuple, dépassant tout le peuple de l’épaule et au delà.
24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
Et Samuel dit à tout le peuple: « Voyez-vous celui que Yahweh a choisi? Il n’y a personne dans tout le peuple qui soit semblable à lui. » Et tout le peuple poussa des cris en disant: « Vive le roi! »
25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
Alors Samuel exposa au peuple le droit de la royauté, et il l’écrivit dans le livre, qu’il déposa devant Yahweh; puis il renvoya tout le peuple, chacun dans sa maison.
26 And Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched.
Saül aussi s’en alla dans sa maison à Gabaa, accompagné d’hommes de valeur, dont Dieu avait touché le cœur.
27 But certain sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.
Toutefois les hommes de Bélial disaient: « Est-ce celui-là qui nous sauvera? » Et ils le méprisèrent et ne lui apportèrent pas de présents. Mais Saül n’y prit pas garde.
