1 Chronicles 19

1 And it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

Después de estas cosas aconteció que Naas rey de los hijos de Ammón murió, y reinó en su lugar Hanón su hijo.

2 And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

Y dijo David: Yo haré misericordia con Hanón, hijo de Naas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores, que le consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Y venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Ammón a Hanón, para consolarle,

3 But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron a Hanón: ¿Honra ahora David a tu padre a tu parecer, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No vienen antes sus siervos a ti para escudriñar, e inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?

4 So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

Entonces Hanón tomó los siervos de David, y rapólos, y cortóles los vestidos por medio hasta las nalgas, y enviólos.

5 Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

Y ellos se fueron, y fue dada la nueva a David de aquellos varones, y él envió a recebirlos, porque estaban muy afrentados. Y díjoles el rey: Estáos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis.

6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.

Y viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, envió Hanón y los hijos de Ammón mil talentos de plata, para tomar a sueldo de la Siria de los ríos, y de la Siria de Maaca, y de Soba, carros y gente de a caballo.

7 So they hired them thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cites, and came to battle.

Y tomaron a sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maaca y a su pueblo; los cuales vinieron, y asentaron su campo delante de Medaba. Y juntáronse también los hijos de Ammón de sus ciudades, y vinieron a la guerra.

8 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

David oyéndolo, envió a Joab, y a todo el ejército de los valientes hombres.

9 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

Y los hijos de Ammón salieron, y ordenaron su escuadrón a la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido estaban por sí en el campo.

10 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

Y viendo Joab que la haz de la batalla estaba contra él delante y a las espaldas, escogió de todos los más escogidos que había en Israel, y ordenó su escuadrón contra los Siros.

11 And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

Y la resta del pueblo le puso en mano de Abisaí su hermano, ordenándoles en escuadrón contra los Ammonitas.

12 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

Y dijo: Si los Siros fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me salvarás; y si los Ammonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te salvaré.

13 Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.

Esfuérzate, y esforcémosnos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere.

14 So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.

Y acercóse Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo para pelear con los Siros; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.

15 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

Entonces los hijos de Ammón viendo que los Siros habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisaí su hermano, y entráronse en la ciudad. Y Joab se volvió a Jerusalem.

16 And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.

Y viendo los Siros que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron a los Siros, que estaban de la otra parte del río, cuyo capitán era Sofac, general del ejército de Adarezer.

17 And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him:

Y como el aviso fue dado a David, juntó a todo Israel: y pasando el Jordán vino a ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y como David hubo ordenado su escuadrón contra ellos, ellos pelearon con él.

18 And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians [the men of] seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

Mas el Siro huyó delante de Israel, y mató David de los Siros siete mil hombres de los que peleaban en carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a pie: asimismo mató a Sofac general del ejército.

19 And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and served him: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

Y viendo los Siros de Adarezer, que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos: y nunca más el Siro quiso ayudar a los hijos de Ammón.
