1 Chronicles 10
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
Filisterne angreb Israel; og Israels Mænd flygtede for Filisterne, og de faldne laa rundt om paa Gilboas Bjerg.
2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
Og Filisterne forfulgte Saul og hans Sønner og dræbte Sauls Sønner, Jonatan, Abinadab og Malkisjua.
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.
Kampen rasede om Saul, og han blev opdaget af Bueskytterne og grebes af stor Angst for dem.
4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith: lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.
Da sagde Saul til sin Vaabendrager: »Drag dit Sværd og gennembor mig, for at ikke disse uomskaarne skal komme og mishandle mig!« Men Vaabendrageren vilde ikke, thi han gøs tilbage derfor. Da tog Saul Sværdet og styrtede sig i det,
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.
og da Vaabendrageren saa, at Saul var død, styrtede ogsaa han sig i sit Sværd og døde.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.
Saaledes fulgtes Saul, hans tre Sønner og hele hans Slægt i Døden.
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
Men da alle Israeliterne i Dalen saa, at Israels Mænd var flygtet, og at Saul og hans Sønner var faldet, forlod de deres Byer og flygtede, hvorpaa Filisterne kom og besatte dem.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
Da Filisterne Dagen efter kom for at plyndre de faldne, fandt de Saul og hans Sønner liggende paa Gilboas Bjerg.
9 And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
De plyndrede ham da og tog hans Hoved og Vaaben med sig og sendte Bud rundt Filisternes Land for at bringe deres Afguder og Folket Glædesbudet.
10 And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
Vaabnene lagde de i deres Guds Hus, men Hovedskallen hængte de op i Dagons Hus.
11 And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
Men da alle de, som boede i Gilead, hørte alt, hvad Filisterne havde gjort ved Saul,
12 all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
brød alle vaabenføre Mænd op, og de tog Sauls og hans Sønners Lig ned, bragte dem med til Jabesj og jordede deres Ben under Terebinten i Jabesj og fastede syv Dage.
13 So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire [thereby],
Saaledes døde Saul for den Utroskabs Skyld, han havde vist HERREN, fordi han ikke havde givet Agt paa HERRENS Ord, ogsaa fordi han havde adspurgt en Aand for at faa et Raad
14 and inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
og ikke søgt; Raad hos HERREN. Derfor lod han ham dø, og Kongemagten lod han gaa over til David, Isajs Søn.
