1 John 1
1 We write to you about the Word of life, which has been in existence from the beginning. We write of what we have heard, of what we have seen with our eyes, of what we watched reverently and touched with our hands.
はじめからあったもの，わたしたちが聞いたもの，わたしたちの目で見たもの，わたしたちが見，わたしたちの手が触れたもの，すなわち，命の言葉について，
2 That life was made visible, and we have seen it. We bear our testimony to it, and tell you of that eternal life which was with the Father and was made visible to us. (aiōnios g166)
（そして，その命は現わされ，わたしたちは見たので，証言し，あなた方にその命，すなわち父と共にあり，わたしたちに現わされた永遠の命を知らせているのです。） (aiōnios g166)
3 It is of what we have seen and heard that we now tell you, so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
わたしたちは見聞きしたことをあなた方に知らせます。それは，あなた方もわたしたちと交わりを持つようになるためです。わたしたちの交わりは父と共にあり，そのみ子イエス・キリストと共にあります。
4 We are writing all this to you that our joy may be complete.
そして，わたしたちがこれらの事をあなた方に書くのは，わたしたちの喜びが満たされるためです。
5 This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
わたしたちが彼から聞いており，あなた方に知らせる音信とは，神は光であって，その方の内には少しも闇がないということです。
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and yet continue to walk in the darkness, our words and our lives are a lie.
もし，自分がその方と交わりを持っていると言いながら，闇の中を歩むなら，わたしたちは偽っており，真理を告げていません。
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
しかし，その方が光の中におられるように，わたしたちが光の中を歩むなら，わたしたちは互いに交わりを持ち，そのみ子イエス・キリストの血がわたしたちをあらゆる罪から清めるのです。
8 If we say, “we have no sin,” then we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
もし自分には罪がないと言うなら，わたしたちは自分を欺いており，真理はわたしたちの内にありません。
9 If we confess our sins, he is just and may be trusted to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all wrongdoing.
もしわたしたちが自分の罪を告白するなら，その方は誠実また公正な方なので，わたしたちのあらゆる罪を許してくださり，わたしたちをあらゆる不正から清めてくださいます。
10 If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make God a liar, and his Word is not in us.
もし自分は罪を犯したことがないと言うなら，わたしたちはその方を偽り者にするのであり，その方の言葉はわたしたちの内にありません。
