Psalms 48

1 A song. A psalm of the Korahites. Great is the Lord and worthy all praise in the city of our God. His holy mountain,

Ein Gesang, ein Lied, von den Korachiten. Der Herr ist groß und hochzupreisen ob unserer Gottesstadt, ob seines heiligen Berges,

2 that rises so fair, is the joy of all the world. Like the mount of the gods is Mount Zion, the city of the great king.

der herrlich sich erhebt, der ganzen Erde Wonne, der Berg von Sion, der im Norden der Stadt des großen Königs.

3 Once God made himself known as the defence of her palaces.

In ihren Burgen hat sich Gott als Schutzwehr kundgetan.

4 For see! A concert of kings passed over the frontier together.

Versammelt haben sich die Könige, sind allzumal herangezogen.

5 But one glance, and they were astounded; they hastened away in dismay.

Sie sind erstarrt, kaum daß sie es gesehen, und sind bestürzt entflohen,

6 Trembling took hold of them there, like the pains of a woman in labour.

Von Schrecken dort erfaßt, von Angst, gleich der in Kindesnöten,

7 They were shattered, as east wind shatters the giant ships in pieces.

wie wenn der Ostwind Tarsisschiffe stranden läßt.

8 What we heard, we now have seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, the city of our God. God will uphold her forever. (Selah)

Was vormals wir gehört, das haben wir geschaut jetzt an der Stadt des Herrn der Heeresscharen, unserer Gottesstadt. Gott läßt sie ewiglich bestehen. (Sela)

9 We think, O God, of your love, in the midst of your temple.

Wir haben Deine Gnade, Gott, empfangen hier in Deinem Heiligtum.

10 Your fame, O God, like your name, shall extend to the ends of the earth. Victory fills your hand.

Gleich Deinem Himmel, Gott, erstreckt sich Deine Herrlichkeit bis an der Erde Ende. Voll von Gerechtigkeit ist Deine Rechte.

11 Let mount Zion be glad; let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments.

Der Sionsberg ist voller Freude, und Judas Töchter jubeln über Deine Strafgerichte. -

12 Walk about Zion, go round her; count her towers.

Umgeht, umwandert Sion! Und zählet seine Türme!

13 Set your mind on her ramparts, consider her palaces; that you tell to the next generation

Betrachtet seinen Wall! Durchmustert seine Burgen, daß ihr's dem künftigen Geschlecht verkünden könnt,

14 That such is God, our God he it is who shall guide us for ever and ever.

daß Gott es ist, in alle Ewigkeiten unser Gott, der selbst uns leitet für und für!
