< Psalms 132 >

1 A song of ascents. Remember, O Lord, David all his sufferings,
Canticum graduum. Memento, Domine, David, et omnis mansuetudinis ejus:
2 the oath that he swore to the Lord, and his vow to the Strong One of Jacob,
sicut juravit Domino; votum vovit Deo Jacob:
3 never to enter his tent, never to lie on his bed,
Si introiero in tabernaculum domus meæ; si ascendero in lectum strati mei;
4 never to give his eyes sleep or his eyelids slumber,
si dedero somnum oculis meis, et palpebris meis dormitationem,
5 till he had found a place for the Lord, for the Strong One of Jacob to live in.
et requiem temporibus meis, donec inveniam locum Domino, tabernaculum Deo Jacob.
6 We heard of it in Ephrathah, in the fields of Jaar we found it.
Ecce audivimus eam in Ephrata; invenimus eam in campis silvæ.
7 We went to the place where he dwelt, we bowed ourselves low at his footstool.
Introibimus in tabernaculum ejus; adorabimus in loco ubi steterunt pedes ejus.
8 ‘Arise, Lord, and enter your resting-place, you and your mighty ark.
Surge, Domine, in requiem tuam, tu et arca sanctificationis tuæ.
9 Let your priests wear a garment of righteousness, your faithful shout aloud for joy.
Sacerdotes tui induantur justitiam, et sancti tui exsultent.
10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your Anointed.’
Propter David servum tuum non avertas faciem christi tui.
11 The Lord swore an oath to David an oath that he will not break; ‘I will set on your throne a prince of your line.
Juravit Dominus David veritatem, et non frustrabitur eam: De fructu ventris tui ponam super sedem tuam.
12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons, too, forever, will sit on your throne.’
Si custodierint filii tui testamentum meum, et testimonia mea hæc quæ docebo eos, et filii eorum usque in sæculum sedebunt super sedem tuam.
13 For the choice of the Lord is Zion; she is the home of his heart.
Quoniam elegit Dominus Sion: elegit eam in habitationem sibi.
14 ‘This is forever my resting-place, this is the home of my heart.
Hæc requies mea in sæculum sæculi; hic habitabo, quoniam elegi eam.
15 I will royally bless her provision, and give bread to her poor in abundance.
Viduam ejus benedicens benedicam; pauperes ejus saturabo panibus.
16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation; her faithful will shout for joy.
Sacerdotes ejus induam salutari, et sancti ejus exsultatione exsultabunt.
17 There will I raise up for David a dynasty of power. I have set my anointed a lamp that shall never go out.
Illuc producam cornu David; paravi lucernam christo meo.
18 Robes of shame I will put on his foes, but on his head a glittering crown.’
Inimicos ejus induam confusione; super ipsum autem efflorebit sanctificatio mea.
