Matthew 8
1 When Jesus had come down from the hill, great crowds followed him.
När han nu gick neder af berget, följde honom mycket folk.
2 He saw a leper who came up, and bowed to the ground before him, and said, ‘Master, if only you are willing, you are able to make me clean.’
Och si, der kom en spitelsk man, och tillbad honom, och sade: Herre, vill du, så kan du göra mig renan.
3 Stretching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying as he did so, ‘I am willing; become clean.’ Instantly he was made clean from his leprosy;
Då räckte Jesus ut sina hand, och tog på honom, sägandes: Jag vill, var ren; och straxt vardt han ren utaf sin spitelsko.
4 and then Jesus said to him, ‘Be careful not to say a word to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift directed by Moses, as evidence of your cure.’
Och Jesus sade till honom: Se till, att du säger det för ingom; utan gack bort, och låt Presten se dig, och offra den gåfvo, som Mose budit hafver, till ett vittnesbörd öfver dem.
5 After Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion in the Roman army came up to him, entreating his help.
Men när Jesus gick in uti Capernaum, kom en höfvitsman till honom, och bad honom,
6 ‘Sir,’ he said, ‘my manservant is lying ill at my house with a stroke of paralysis, and is suffering terribly.’
Sägandes: Herre, min tjenare ligger hemma borttagen, och hafver stor vedermödo.
7 ‘I will come and cure him,’ answered Jesus.
Då sade Jesus till honom: Jag vill komma, och bota honom.
8 ‘Sir,’ the centurion went on, ‘I am unworthy to receive you under my roof; but only speak, and my manservant will be cured.
Då svarade höfvitsmannen, och sade: Herre, jag är icke värdig, att du skall gå in under mitt tak; utan säg allenast ett ord, så blifver min tjenare helbregda.
9 For I myself am a man under the orders of others, with soldiers under me; and, if I say to one of them “Go,” he goes, and to another “Come,” he comes, and to my slave “Do this,” he does it.’
Ty jag är ock en menniska under annars mans våld, och hafver krigsknektar under mig; och jag säger till den ena: Gack; och han går; och till den andra: Kom; och han kommer; och till min dräng: Gör det; och han gör så.
10 Jesus was surprised to hear this, and said to those who were following him, ‘Never I tell you, in any Israelite have I met with such faith as this!
När Jesus detta hörde, förundrade han sig, och sade till dem, som honom följde: Sannerliga säger jag eder, jag hafver icke funnit sådana tro i Israel.
11 Yes, and many will come in from East and West and take their places beside Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven;
Men jag säger eder, att månge varda kommande af östan och vestan, och skola sitta med Abraham, Isaac och Jacob i himmelriket.
12 while the heirs to the kingdom will be banished into the darkness outside; there, there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’
Men riksens barn skola varda utkastade i det yttersta mörkret; der skall vara gråt och tandagnisslan.
13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go now, and it will be according to your faith.’ And the man was cured that very hour.
Och Jesus sade till höfvitsmannen: Gack, och som du tror, så ske dig; och i samma stundene blef hans tjenare helbregda.
14 When Jesus went into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law prostrated with fever.
Och när Jesus kom i Petri hus, och såg att hans svära låg, och hade skälfvosot;
15 On his taking her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and began to take care of him.
Då tog han på hennes hand, och skälfvosoten öfvergaf henne; och hon stod upp, och tjente dem.
16 In the evening the people brought to Jesus many who were possessed by demons; and he drove out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were ill,
Och när aftonen kom, hade de till honom många, som voro besatte; och han dref ut andarna med ord, och alla dem, som ondt hade, botade han;
17 in fulfilment of these words in the prophet Isaiah – “He took our infirmities on himself, and bore the burden of our diseases.”
På det fullbordas skulle det som sagdt var genom Esaia Propheten, som säger: Han hafver tagit på sig våra skröplighet, och våra sjukdomar hafver han burit.
18 Seeing a crowd round him, Jesus gave orders to go across.
Och när Jesus såg mycket folk omkring sig, böd han, att man skulle fara utöfver på hinsidon hafvet.
19 A teacher of the Law came up to him, and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’
Och kom en Skriftlärd till honom, och sade till honom: Mästar, jag vill följa dig ehvart du går.
20 ‘Foxes have holes,’ answered Jesus, ‘and wild birds their nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
Då sade Jesus till honom: Räfvarne hafva kulor, och foglarna under himmelen näste; men menniskones Son hafver intet, der han må luta sitt hufvud till.
21 ‘Master,’ said another, who was a disciple, ‘let me first go and bury my father.’
Och en annar af hans Lärjungar sade till honom: Herre, gif mig lof, att jag går först bort, och begrafver min fader.
22 But Jesus answered, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’
Då sade Jesus till honom: Följ du mig, och låt de döda begrafva sina döda.
23 Then he got into the boat, followed by his disciples.
Och han steg i skeppet, och hans Lärjungar följde honom.
24 Suddenly so great a storm came up on the sea, that the waves broke right over the boat. But Jesus was asleep;
Och si, en stor storm växte upp i hafvet, så att vågen slog utöfver skeppet; och han sof.
25 and the disciples came and roused him. ‘Master,’ they cried, ‘save us; we are lost!’
Då gingo Lärjungarna till, och väckte honom upp, sägande: Herre, fräls oss, vi förgås.
26 ‘Why are you so timid?’ he said. ‘You of little faith!’ Then Jesus rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm followed.
Då sade han till dem: I klentrogne, hvi rädens I? Och stod upp, och näpste vädret, och hafvet; och det vardt stilla lugnet.
27 The men were amazed, and exclaimed, ‘What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!’
Men menniskorna förundrade sig, och sade: Hvad är denne för en, att vädret och hafvet äro honom lydig?
28 On getting to the other side – the region of the Gadarenes – Jesus met two men who were possessed by demons, coming out of the tombs. They were so violent that no one was able to pass that way.
Och när han kom på hinsidon hafvet, uti de Gergeseners landsändar, kommo två besatte med djefvulen emot honom löpande, utgångne af grifter; och voro ganska gräselige, så att ingen kunde resa den vägen fram.
29 Suddenly they shrieked out, ‘What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before our time?’
Och si, de ropade, och sade: Ack! Jesu, Guds Son, hvad hafve vi med dig göra? Äst du kommen till att plåga oss förr än tid är?
30 A long way off, there was a herd of many pigs, feeding;
Så gick der långt ifrån en stor svinahjord i bet.
31 and the foul spirits began begging Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’
Då bådo honom djeflarna, och sade: Är det så, att du drifver oss ut, så lofva oss, att vi farom uti den svinahjorden.
32 ‘Go,’ he said. The spirits came out, and entered the pigs; and the whole herd rushed down the steep slope into the sea, and died in the water.
Då sade han till dem: Farer. Då foro de ut, och foro in i svinahjorden; och si, hele svinahjorden lopp, och brådstörte sig i hafvet, och drunknade i vattnet.
33 At this the men who tended them ran away and went to the town, carrying the news of all that had occurred, and of what had happened to the possessed men.
Men herdarne flydde bort, och gingo in i staden, och förkunnade alltsammans, och huru det var tillgånget med dem som besatte voro.
34 At the news the whole town went out to meet Jesus, and, when they saw him, they entreated him to go away from their region.
Och si, då gick hela staden ut emot Jesum; och då de sågo honom, bådo de att han ville gå bort utu deras landsändar.
