Matthew 8
1 When Jesus had come down from the hill, great crowds followed him.
Grandes multitudes siguieron a Jesús cuando bajó de la montaña.
2 He saw a leper who came up, and bowed to the ground before him, and said, ‘Master, if only you are willing, you are able to make me clean.’
Un leproso se acercó a él, y se arrodilló, adorándolo, y le dijo: “Señor, si quieres, por favor sáname”.
3 Stretching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying as he did so, ‘I am willing; become clean.’ Instantly he was made clean from his leprosy;
Jesús se extendió hacia él y lo tocó con su mano. “Quiero”, le dijo. “Queda sano”. Inmediatamente este hombre fue sanado de su lepra.
4 and then Jesus said to him, ‘Be careful not to say a word to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift directed by Moses, as evidence of your cure.’
“Asegúrate de no contárselo a nadie”, le dijo Jesús. “Ve y preséntate ante el sacerdote y da la ofrenda que Moisés ordenó, como evidencia pública”.
5 After Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion in the Roman army came up to him, entreating his help.
Cuando Jesús entró a Capernaúm, un centurión se le acercó, suplicándole su ayuda,
6 ‘Sir,’ he said, ‘my manservant is lying ill at my house with a stroke of paralysis, and is suffering terribly.’
“Señor, mi siervo está en casa, acostado y sin poder moverse. Está sufriendo una terrible agonía”.
7 ‘I will come and cure him,’ answered Jesus.
“Iré y lo sanaré”, respondió Jesús.
8 ‘Sir,’ the centurion went on, ‘I am unworthy to receive you under my roof; but only speak, and my manservant will be cured.
El centurión respondió: “Señor, no merezco una visita a mi casa. Solo di la palabra y mi siervo quedará sano.
9 For I myself am a man under the orders of others, with soldiers under me; and, if I say to one of them “Go,” he goes, and to another “Come,” he comes, and to my slave “Do this,” he does it.’
Porque yo mismo estoy bajo la autoridad de mis superiores, y a la vez yo también tengo soldados bajo mi mando. Yo le ordeno a uno: ‘¡Ve!’ y él va. Mando a otro: ‘¡Ven!’ y él viene. Digo a mi siervo: ‘¡Haz esto!’ y él lo hace”.
10 Jesus was surprised to hear this, and said to those who were following him, ‘Never I tell you, in any Israelite have I met with such faith as this!
Cuando Jesús escuchó lo que este hombre dijo, se quedó asombrado. Entonces le dijo a los que le seguían: “En verdad les digo que no he encontrado este tipo de confianza en ninguna parte de Israel.
11 Yes, and many will come in from East and West and take their places beside Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven;
Les digo que muchos vendrán del este y del oeste, y se sentarán con Abraham e Isaac en el reino de los cielos.
12 while the heirs to the kingdom will be banished into the darkness outside; there, there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’
Pero los herederos del reino serán lanzados a la oscuridad absoluta, donde habrá lamento y crujir de dientes”.
13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go now, and it will be according to your faith.’ And the man was cured that very hour.
Entonces Jesús le dijo al centurión, “Ve a casa. Lo que pediste ya fue hecho, como creíste que pasaría”. Y el siervo fue sanado inmediatamente.
14 When Jesus went into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law prostrated with fever.
Cuando Jesús llegó a la casa de Pedro, vio que la suegra de Pedro estaba enferma en cama y tenía una fiebre muy alta.
15 On his taking her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and began to take care of him.
Entonces Jesús tocó su mano y se le quitó la fiebre. Ella se levantó y comenzó a prepararle comida a Jesús.
16 In the evening the people brought to Jesus many who were possessed by demons; and he drove out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were ill,
Cuando llegó la noche, trajeron ante Jesús a un hombre endemoniado. Con solo una orden, Jesús hizo que los espíritus salieran de él, y sanó a todos los que estaban enfermos.
17 in fulfilment of these words in the prophet Isaiah – “He took our infirmities on himself, and bore the burden of our diseases.”
Esto cumplió lo que el profeta Isaías dijo: “Él sanó nuestras enfermedades y nos libertó de nuestras dolencias”.
18 Seeing a crowd round him, Jesus gave orders to go across.
Cuando Jesús vio las multitudes que lo rodeaban, dio instrucciones de que debían ir al otro lado del lago.
19 A teacher of the Law came up to him, and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’
Entonces uno de los maestros religiosos se acercó a él y le dijo: “Maestro, te seguiré adonde vayas”.
20 ‘Foxes have holes,’ answered Jesus, ‘and wild birds their nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
“Los zorros tienen guaridas y las aves silvestres tienen nidos, pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene dónde recostarse y descansar”, le dijo Jesús.
21 ‘Master,’ said another, who was a disciple, ‘let me first go and bury my father.’
Otro discípulo le dijo a Jesús: “Señor, primero déjame ir y sepultar a mi padre”.
22 But Jesus answered, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’
“Sígueme. Deja que los muertos sepulten a sus propios muertos”, le respondió Jesús.
23 Then he got into the boat, followed by his disciples.
Entonces Jesús subió a una barca y sus discípulos se fueron con él.
24 Suddenly so great a storm came up on the sea, that the waves broke right over the boat. But Jesus was asleep;
De repente, sopló una fuerte tormenta, y las olas golpeaban fuertemente contra la barca, pero Jesús seguía durmiendo.
25 and the disciples came and roused him. ‘Master,’ they cried, ‘save us; we are lost!’
Los discípulos se acercaron a él y lo despertaron gritándole: “¡Sálvanos, Señor! ¡Vamos a hundirnos!”
26 ‘Why are you so timid?’ he said. ‘You of little faith!’ Then Jesus rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm followed.
“¿Por qué tienen tanto miedo? ¿Por qué tienen tan poca confianza?” les preguntó Jesús. Entonces se levantó y ordenó a los vientos y las olas que se detuvieran. Y todo quedó completamente en calma.
27 The men were amazed, and exclaimed, ‘What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!’
Los discípulos estaban asombrados y decían: “¿Quién es este? ¿Incluso los vientos y las olas le obedecen?”
28 On getting to the other side – the region of the Gadarenes – Jesus met two men who were possessed by demons, coming out of the tombs. They were so violent that no one was able to pass that way.
Cuando llegaron al otro lado, a la región de los gadarenos, dos hombres endemoniados salieron del cementerio para encontrarse con Jesús. Estos hombres eran tan peligrosos que nadie se atrevía a pasar por ese camino.
29 Suddenly they shrieked out, ‘What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before our time?’
Y ellos gritaban: “¿Qué tienes que ver con nosotros, Hijo de Dios? ¿Has venido a torturarnos antes de tiempo?”
30 A long way off, there was a herd of many pigs, feeding;
A lo lejos, había un gran hato de cerdos comiendo.
31 and the foul spirits began begging Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’
Los demonios le suplicaron a Jesús: “Si vas a sacarnos de aquí, envíanos a ese hato de cerdos”.
32 ‘Go,’ he said. The spirits came out, and entered the pigs; and the whole herd rushed down the steep slope into the sea, and died in the water.
“¡Vayan!” les dijo Jesús. Los demonios salieron de los dos hombres y huyeron hacia el hato de cerdos. Todo el hato de cerdos corrió, descendiendo por una pendiente, hasta que cayeron al mar y se ahogaron.
33 At this the men who tended them ran away and went to the town, carrying the news of all that had occurred, and of what had happened to the possessed men.
Los que cuidaban el rebaño de cerdos, salieron corriendo. Entonces se fueron hacia la ciudad y le contaron a la gente que estaba allí todo lo que había sucedido y lo que había ocurrido con los dos hombres endemoniados.
34 At the news the whole town went out to meet Jesus, and, when they saw him, they entreated him to go away from their region.
Y toda la ciudad salió para encontrarse con Jesús. Cuando lo encontraron, le suplicaron que abandonara su ciudad.
