Matthew 26
1 When Jesus had finished teaching all of that, he said to his disciples,
E aconteceu que, quando Jesus concluiu todos estes discursos, disse aos seus discipulos:
2 ‘You know that in two days time the Festival of the Passover will be here; and that the Son of Man is to be given up to be crucified.’
Bem sabeis que d'aqui a dois dias é a paschoa; e o Filho do homem será entregue para ser crucificado.
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met in the house of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
Então os principes dos sacerdotes, e os escribas, e os anciãos do povo reuniram-se na sala do summo sacerdote, o qual se chamava Caiphás,
4 and plotted together to arrest Jesus by stealth and put him to death;
E consultaram-se juntamente para prenderem Jesus com dolo e o matarem.
5 but they said, ‘Not during the Festival, or the people may riot.’
Porém diziam: Não durante a festa, para que não haja alvoroço entre o povo.
6 After Jesus had reached Bethany, and while he was in the house of Simon the leper,
E, estando Jesus em Bethania, em casa de Simão, o leproso,
7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and poured the perfume on his head as he sat at the table.
Approximou-se d'elle uma mulher com um vaso d'alabastro, com unguento de grande valor, e derramou-lh'o sobre a cabeça, estando elle assentado á mesa.
8 The disciples were indignant at seeing this. ‘What is this waste for?’ they exclaimed.
E os seus discipulos, vendo isto, indignaram-se, dizendo: Porque se faz este desperdicio?
9 ‘It could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to poor people.’
Pois este unguento podia vender-se por grande preço, e dar-se o dinheiro aos pobres.
10 ‘Why are you troubling the woman?’ Jesus said, when he noticed it. ‘For this is a beautiful deed that she has done to me.
Jesus, porém, conhecendo isto, disse-lhes: Porque affligis esta mulher? pois praticou uma boa acção para comigo.
11 You always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
Porquanto sempre tendes comvosco os pobres, mas a mim não me haveis de ter sempre.
12 In pouring this perfume on my body, she prepares me for my burial.
Ora, derramando ella este unguento sobre o meu corpo, fel-o preparando-me para o meu enterramento.
13 I tell you, wherever, in the whole world, this good news is proclaimed, what this woman has done will be told in memory of her.’
Em verdade vos digo que, onde quer que este Evangelho fôr prégado, em todo o mundo, tambem será dito o que ella fez, para memoria sua.
14 It was then that one of the Twelve, named Judas Iscariot, made his way to the chief priests,
Então um dos doze chamado Judas Iscariotes, foi ter com os principes dos sacerdotes,
15 and said ‘What are you willing to give me, if I betray Jesus to you?’ The Priests counted him out thirty pieces of silver as payment.
E disse: Que me quereis dar, e eu vol-o entregarei? E elles lhe arbitraram trinta moedas de prata,
16 So from that time Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
E desde então buscava opportunidade para o entregar.
17 On the first day of the Festival of the unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus, and said, ‘Where do you wish us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’
E, no primeiro dia da festa dos pães asmos, chegaram os discipulos junto de Jesus, dizendo: Onde queres que te preparemos o necessario para comer a paschoa?
18 ‘Go into the city to a certain man,’ he answered, ‘and say to him “The teacher says – My time is near. I will keep the Passover with my disciples at your house.”’
E elle disse: Ide á cidade a um certo homem, e dizei-lhe: O Mestre diz: O meu tempo está proximo; em tua casa celebro a paschoa com os meus discipulos.
19 The disciples did as Jesus directed them, and prepared the Passover.
E os discipulos fizeram como Jesus lhes ordenara, e prepararam a paschoa.
20 In the evening Jesus took his place with the twelve disciples,
E, chegada a tarde, assentou-se á mesa com os doze.
21 and, while they were eating, he said, ‘I tell you that one of you will betray me.’
E, comendo elles, disse: Em verdade vos digo que um de vós me ha de trahir.
22 In great grief they began to say to him, one by one, ‘Can it be I, Master?’
E elles, entristecendo-se muito, começaram cada um a dizer-lhe: Porventura sou eu, Senhor?
23 ‘The one who dipped his bread beside me in the dish,’ replied Jesus, ‘is the one who will betray me.
E elle, respondendo, disse: O que mette a mão no prato comigo, esse me ha de trahir.
24 True, the Son of Man must go, as scripture says of him, yet alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is being betrayed! For that man it would be better never to have been born!’
Em verdade o Filho do homem vae, como ácerca d'elle está escripto, mas ai d'aquelle homem por quem o Filho do homem é trahido! bom seria a esse homem se não houvera nascido.
25 Judas, who was betraying him, turned to him and said, ‘Can it be I, Rabbi?’ ‘It is,’ answered Jesus.
E, respondendo Judas, o que o trahia, disse: Porventura sou eu, Rabbi? Elle disse: Tu o disseste.
26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and, after saying the blessing, broke it and, as he gave it to his disciples, said, ‘Take it and eat it; this is my body.’
E, quando comiam, Jesus tomou o pão, e, abençoando-o, o partiu, e o deu aos discipulos, e disse: Tomae, comei, isto é o meu corpo.
27 Then he took a cup, and, after saying the thanksgiving, gave it to them, with the words, ‘Drink from it, all of you;
E, tomando o calix, e dando graças, deu-lh'o, dizendo: Bebei d'elle todos;
28 for this is my covenant blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Porque isto é o meu sangue, o sangue do Novo Testamento, que é derramado por muitos, para remissão dos peccados.
29 I tell you that I will never, after this, drink of this juice of the grape, until that day when I will drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.’
E digo-vos que, desde agora, não beberei d'este fructo da vide até áquelle dia em que o beber de novo comvosco no reino de meu Pae.
30 They then sang a hymn, and went out to the Mount of Olives.
E, tendo cantado o hymno, sairam para o monte das Oliveiras.
31 Then Jesus said to them, ‘Even you will all fall away from me tonight. Scripture says – “I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.”
Então Jesus lhes disse: Todos vós esta noite vos escandalizareis em mim; porque está escripto: Ferirei o pastor, e as ovelhas do rebanho se dispersarão.
32 But, after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.’
Mas, depois de eu resuscitar, irei adiante de vós para a Galilea.
33 ‘If everyone else falls away from you,’ Peter answered, ‘I will never fall away!’
Pedro, porém, respondendo, disse-lhe: Ainda que todos se escandalizem em ti, eu nunca me escandalizarei.
34 ‘I tell you,’ replied Jesus, ‘that this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!’
Disse-lhe Jesus: Em verdade te digo que, n'esta mesma noite, antes que o gallo cante, tres vezes me negarás.
35 ‘Even if I must die with you,’ Peter exclaimed, ‘I will never disown you!’ All the disciples spoke in the same way.
Disse-lhe Pedro: Ainda que me seja mister morrer comtigo, não te negarei. E o mesmo todos os discipulos disseram.
36 Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit down here while I go and pray over there.’
Então chegou Jesus com elles a um logar chamado Gethsemane, e disse aos discipulos: Assentae-vos aqui, emquanto vou além, a orar.
37 Taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to show signs of sadness and deep distress of mind.
E, levando comsigo Pedro e os dois filhos de Zebedeo, começou a entristecer-se e a angustiar-se muito.
38 ‘I am sad at heart,’ he said, ‘sad even to death; wait here and watch with me.’
Então lhes disse: A minha alma está cheia de tristeza até á morte; ficae aqui, e velae comigo.
39 Going on a little further, he threw himself on his face in prayer. ‘My Father,’ he said, ‘if it is possible, let me be spared this cup; only, not as I will, but as you will.’
E, indo um pouco mais para diante, prostrou-se sobre o seu rosto, orando e dizendo: Meu Pae, se é possivel, passe de mim este calix; porém, não como eu quero, mas como tu queres.
40 Then he came to his disciples, and found them asleep. ‘What!’ he said to Peter, ‘could none of you watch with me for one hour?
E voltou para os seus discipulos, e achou-os adormecidos; e disse a Pedro: Então nem uma hora podeste velar comigo?
41 Watch and pray so that you don’t fall into temptation. True, the spirit is eager, but human nature is weak.’
Vigiae e orae, para que não entreis em tentação: na verdade, o espirito está prompto, mas a carne é fraca.
42 Again, a second time, he went away, and prayed. ‘My Father,’ he said, ‘if I cannot be spared this cup, but must drink it, your will be done!’
E, indo segunda vez, orou, dizendo: Meu Pae, se este calix não pode passar de mim sem eu o beber, faça-se a tua vontade.
43 And coming back again he found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy.
E, voltando, achou-os outra vez adormecidos; porque os seus olhos estavam carregados.
44 So he left them, and went away again, and prayed a third time, again saying the same words.
E, deixando-os, voltou, e orou terceira vez, dizendo as mesmas palavras.
45 Then he came to the disciples, and said, ‘Sleep on now, and rest yourselves. Look – my time is close at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of wicked people.
Então chegou junto dos seus discipulos, e disse-lhes: Dormi agora, e repousae; eis que é chegada a hora, e o Filho do homem será entregue nas mãos dos peccadores.
46 Up, and let us be going. Look! My betrayer is close at hand.’
Levantae-vos, partamos; eis que é chegado o que me trahe.
47 And, while he was still speaking, Judas, who was one of the Twelve, came in sight; and with him was a great crowd of people, with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
E, estando elle ainda a fallar, eis que chegou Judas, um dos doze, e com elle uma grande multidão com espadas e varapaus, enviada pelos principes dos sacerdotes e pelos anciãos do povo.
48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them. ‘The man whom I kiss,’ he had said, ‘will be the one; arrest him.’
E o que o trahia tinha-lhes dado signal, dizendo: O que eu beijar é elle; prendei-o.
49 So he went up to Jesus at once, and exclaimed, ‘Welcome, Rabbi!’ and kissed him;
E logo, approximando-se de Jesus, disse: Eu te saudo Rabbi. E beijou-o.
50 at which Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, do what you have come for.’ The men went up, seized Jesus, and arrested him.
Jesus, porém, lhe disse: Amigo, a que vieste? Então, approximando-se, lançaram mão de Jesus, e prenderam-n'o.
51 Suddenly one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and striking the high priest’s servant, cut off his ear.
E eis que um dos que estavam com Jesus, estendendo a mão, puxou da espada e, ferindo o servo do summo sacerdote, cortou-lhe uma orelha.
52 ‘Sheathe your sword,’ Jesus said, ‘for all who draw the sword will be put to the sword.
Então Jesus disse-lhe: Mette no seu logar a tua espada; porque todos os que lançarem mão da espada á espada morrerão.
53 Do you think that I cannot ask my Father for help, when he would at once send to my aid more than twelve legions of angels?
Ou pensas tu que não poderia eu agora orar a meu Pae, e elle não me daria mais de doze legiões d'anjos?
54 But in that case how would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that this must be?’
Como pois se cumpririam as Escripturas, que dizem que assim convem que aconteça?
55 Jesus at the same time said to the crowds, ‘Have you come out, as if after a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me? I have sat teaching day after day in the Temple Courts, and yet you did not arrest me.’
Então disse Jesus á multidão: Saistes, como a um salteador, com espadas e varapaus para me prender? todos os dias me assentava junto de vós, ensinando no templo, e não me prendestes.
56 The whole of this occurred in fulfilment of the prophetic scriptures. Then the disciples all forsook him and fled.
Mas tudo isto aconteceu para que se cumpram as escripturas dos prophetas. Então todos os discipulos, deixando-o, fugiram.
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the Law and elders had assembled.
E, os que prenderam a Jesus, o conduziram ao summo sacerdote, Caiphás, onde os escribas e os anciãos estavam reunidos.
58 Peter followed him at a distance as far as the high priest’s courtyard, to see the outcome.
E Pedro o seguiu de longe até ao pateo do summo sacerdote: e, entrando dentro, assentou-se entre os creados, para vêr o fim.
59 Meanwhile the chief priests and the whole of the High Council were trying to get such false evidence against Jesus, as would warrant putting him to death,
E os principes dos sacerdotes, e os anciãos, e todo o conselho, buscavam falso testemunho contra Jesus, para o poderem matar,
60 but they did not find any, although many came forward with false evidence. Later on, however, two men came forward and said,
Mas não o achavam, apezar de se apresentarem muitas testemunhas falsas; mas por fim chegaram duas falsas testemunhas,
61 ‘This man said “I am able to destroy the Temple of God, and to build it in three days.”’
E disseram: Este disse: Eu posso derribar o templo de Deus, e reedifical-o em tres dias.
62 Then the high priest stood up, and said to Jesus, ‘Have you no answer? What is this evidence which these men are giving against you?’
E, levantando-se o summo sacerdote, disse-lhe: Não respondes coisa alguma ao que estes depõem contra ti?
63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, ‘I order you, by the living God, to tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.’
Jesus, porém, guardava silencio. E, insistindo o summo sacerdote, disse-lhe: Conjuro-te pelo Deus vivo que nos digas se tu és o Christo, o Filho de Deus.
64 ‘It is true,’ Jesus answered, ‘Moreover I tell you all that hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the Almighty, and coming on the clouds of the heavens.’
Disse-lhe Jesus: Tu o disseste; digo-vos, porém, que vereis em breve o Filho do homem assentado á direita da magestade divina, e vindo sobre as nuvens do céu.
65 Then the high priest tore his robes. ‘This is blasphemy!’ he exclaimed. ‘Why do we want any more witnesses? You have just heard his blasphemy!
Então o summo sacerdote rasgou os seus vestidos, dizendo: Blasphemou; para que precisamos ainda de testemunhas? Eis que bem ouvistes agora a sua blasphemia.
66 What is your decision?’ They answered, ‘He deserves death.’
Que vos parece? E elles, respondendo, disseram: E réu de morte.
67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him, while others dealt blows at him, saying as they did so,
Então cuspiram-lhe no rosto; e uns lhe davam punhadas, e outros o esbofeteavam,
68 ‘Now play the prophet for us, you Christ! Who was it that struck you?’
Dizendo: Prophetiza-nos, Christo, quem é o que te bateu?
69 Peter, meanwhile, was sitting outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and exclaimed, ‘Why, you were with Jesus the Galilean!’
E Pedro estava assentado fóra, no pateo, e approximou-se d'elle uma creada, dizendo: Tu tambem estavas com Jesus, o galileo.
70 But Peter denied it before them all. ‘I do not know what you mean,’ he replied.
Mas elle negou diante de todos, dizendo: Não sei o que dizes.
71 When he had gone out into the gateway, another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, ‘This man was with Jesus of Nazareth!’
E, saindo para o vestibulo, viu-o outra, e disse aos que ali estavam: Este tambem estava com Jesus, o nazareno.
72 Again he denied it with an oath, ‘I do not know the man!’
E elle negou outra vez com juramento, dizendo: Não conheço tal homem.
73 But soon afterwards those who were standing by came up and said to Peter, ‘You also are certainly one of them; why, even your way of speaking proves it!’
E, d'ahi a pouco, approximando-se os que ali estavam, disseram a Pedro: Verdadeiramente tambem tu és um d'elles, pois a tua falla te denuncia.
74 Then Peter said, ‘I swear that I do not know the man! May God punish me if I am lying!’ At that moment a cock crowed;
Então começou elle a imprecar e a jurar, dizendo: Não conheço esse homem. E immediatamente o gallo cantou.
75 and Peter remembered the words which Jesus had said – “Before a cock has crowed, you will disown me three times”; and he went outside, and wept bitterly.
E lembrou-se Pedro das palavras de Jesus, que lhe dissera: Antes que o gallo cante, tres vezes me negarás. E, saindo d'ali, chorou amargamente.
