Matthew 26
1 When Jesus had finished teaching all of that, he said to his disciples,
Als Jesus alle diese Reden beendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern:
2 ‘You know that in two days time the Festival of the Passover will be here; and that the Son of Man is to be given up to be crucified.’
"Ihr wißt, daß in zwei Tagen Ostern ist; da wird der Menschensohn zur Kreuzigung überliefert werden."
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met in the house of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
In der gleichen Zeit kamen die Oberpriester und die Ältesten des Volkes zusammen im Palast des Hohenpriesters, der Kaiphas hieß.
4 and plotted together to arrest Jesus by stealth and put him to death;
Sie faßten den Beschluß, Jesus ganz unauffällig zu ergreifen und zu töten.
5 but they said, ‘Not during the Festival, or the people may riot.’
Doch sagten sie: "Nicht am Festtag, es könnte sonst das Volk in Aufruhr kommen."
6 After Jesus had reached Bethany, and while he was in the house of Simon the leper,
Als Jesus in Bethanien weilte im Hause Simons des Aussätzigen,
7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and poured the perfume on his head as he sat at the table.
da trat ein Weib zu ihm; sie trug ein Gefäß aus Alabaster voll kostbaren Salböls. Dieses goß sie, als er zu Tische lag, über seinem Haupte aus.
8 The disciples were indignant at seeing this. ‘What is this waste for?’ they exclaimed.
Als die Jünger dies sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: "Wozu diese Verschwendung?
9 ‘It could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to poor people.’
Man hätte es um teures Geld verkaufen und den Erlös den Armen geben können."
10 ‘Why are you troubling the woman?’ Jesus said, when he noticed it. ‘For this is a beautiful deed that she has done to me.
Doch Jesus, der es wohl bemerkte, sprach zu ihnen: "Was kränkt ihr dieses Weib? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan.
11 You always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
Die Armen habt ihr allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit.
12 In pouring this perfume on my body, she prepares me for my burial.
Wenn sie dieses Salböl über meinen Leib ausgoß, so tat sie es für mein Begräbnis
13 I tell you, wherever, in the whole world, this good news is proclaimed, what this woman has done will be told in memory of her.’
Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wo immer in der ganzen Welt dieses Evangelium verkündet wird, da wird man auch erzählen, was sie getan, ihr zum Gedächtnis"
14 It was then that one of the Twelve, named Judas Iscariot, made his way to the chief priests,
Dann ging einer von den Zwölfen, Judas Iskariot mit Namen, zu den Oberpriestern
15 and said ‘What are you willing to give me, if I betray Jesus to you?’ The Priests counted him out thirty pieces of silver as payment.
und sprach: "Was wollt ihr mir geben, wenn ich ihn euch verrate?" Sie boten ihm dreißig Silberstücke.
16 So from that time Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
Von da an suchte er eine günstige Gelegenheit, ihn zu verraten.
17 On the first day of the Festival of the unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus, and said, ‘Where do you wish us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’
Am ersten Tag der Ungesäuerten Brote begaben sich die Jünger zu Jesus mit der Frage: "Wo willst du, daß wir dir das Ostermahl bereiten?"
18 ‘Go into the city to a certain man,’ he answered, ‘and say to him “The teacher says – My time is near. I will keep the Passover with my disciples at your house.”’
Er sprach: "Geht in die Stadt zu dem bekannten Manne! Zu diesem sagt: 'Der Meister spricht: Es naht sich meine Zeit; bei dir halte ich mit meinen Jüngern das Ostermahl. '"
19 The disciples did as Jesus directed them, and prepared the Passover.
Die Jünger taten so, wie Jesus ihnen aufgetragen hatte; und sie bereiteten das Ostermahl.
20 In the evening Jesus took his place with the twelve disciples,
So ward es Abend; er setzte sich zu Tische mit den Zwölfen.
21 and, while they were eating, he said, ‘I tell you that one of you will betray me.’
Beim Mahle sprach er: "Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer aus euch wird mich verraten."
22 In great grief they began to say to him, one by one, ‘Can it be I, Master?’
Da fragte ihn einer nach dem andern tiefbetrübt: "Bin ich es etwa, Herr?"
23 ‘The one who dipped his bread beside me in the dish,’ replied Jesus, ‘is the one who will betray me.
Er sprach zu ihnen: "Der seine Hand mit mir in die Schüssel tunkt, wird mich verraten.
24 True, the Son of Man must go, as scripture says of him, yet alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is being betrayed! For that man it would be better never to have been born!’
Der Menschensohn geht zwar dahin, so wie es von ihm geschrieben steht; doch wehe dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn verraten wird. Besser wäre es für diesen Menschen, wenn er nicht geboren wäre."
25 Judas, who was betraying him, turned to him and said, ‘Can it be I, Rabbi?’ ‘It is,’ answered Jesus.
Auch Judas, sein Verräter, fragte ihn: "Bin ich es etwa, Rabbi?" Er sprach zu ihm: "Du bist es."
26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and, after saying the blessing, broke it and, as he gave it to his disciples, said, ‘Take it and eat it; this is my body.’
Während sie beim Mahl waren, nahm Jesus Brot, dankte, brach es und gab es seinen Jüngern mit den Worten: "Nehmt hin und esset, das ist mein Leib."
27 Then he took a cup, and, after saying the thanksgiving, gave it to them, with the words, ‘Drink from it, all of you;
Darauf nahm er den Kelch, dankte und gab ihn diesen mit den Worten: "Trinket alle daraus;
28 for this is my covenant blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
denn das ist mein Bundesblut, das für viele vergossen wird zur Nachlassung der Sünden.
29 I tell you that I will never, after this, drink of this juice of the grape, until that day when I will drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.’
Ich sage euch aber: Ich werde von jetzt an nicht mehr von dem Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken, bis zu jenem Tage, da ich es mit euch in neuer Weise trinken werde im Reiche meines Vaters."
30 They then sang a hymn, and went out to the Mount of Olives.
Sie beteten den Lobgesang und gingen hernach zum Ölberg hinaus.
31 Then Jesus said to them, ‘Even you will all fall away from me tonight. Scripture says – “I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.”
Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: "Ihr alle werdet heute nacht noch an mir irre werden; steht doch geschrieben: 'Ich will den Hirten schlagen; dann werden die Schafe der Herde zerstreut werden.'
32 But, after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.’
Nach meiner Auferstehung aber will ich euch nach Galiläa vorausgehen."
33 ‘If everyone else falls away from you,’ Peter answered, ‘I will never fall away!’
Da gab Petrus ihm zur Antwort: "Und mögen alle an dir irre werden, ich werde niemals irre werden."
34 ‘I tell you,’ replied Jesus, ‘that this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!’
Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Wahrlich, ich sage dir: Noch heute nacht vor dem Hahnenschrei wirst du mich dreimal verleugnet haben."
35 ‘Even if I must die with you,’ Peter exclaimed, ‘I will never disown you!’ All the disciples spoke in the same way.
Petrus sprach zu ihm: "Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müßte, ich würde dich doch nicht verleugnen." In gleicher Weise sprachen alle Jünger.
36 Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit down here while I go and pray over there.’
Und Jesus ging mit ihnen zu einem Landgut, Gethsemani geheißen. Er sprach zu seinen Jüngern.: "Wartet hier, indes ich dorthin gehe und bete"
37 Taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to show signs of sadness and deep distress of mind.
Nur Petrus und die beiden Zebedäussöhne nahm er mit sich. Dann fing er an, traurig und betrübt zu werden.
38 ‘I am sad at heart,’ he said, ‘sad even to death; wait here and watch with me.’
Er sprach zu ihnen: "Meine Seele ist tief betrübt bis zum Tode; bleibt hier und wacht mit mir!"
39 Going on a little further, he threw himself on his face in prayer. ‘My Father,’ he said, ‘if it is possible, let me be spared this cup; only, not as I will, but as you will.’
Er ging ein wenig vorwärts, fiel auf sein Antlitz nieder und betete: "Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, so gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber. Doch nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du willst."
40 Then he came to his disciples, and found them asleep. ‘What!’ he said to Peter, ‘could none of you watch with me for one hour?
Dann ging er zu den Jüngern und fand sie schlafend. Er sprach zu Petrus: "So konntet ihr nicht eine einzige Stunde mit mir wachen?
41 Watch and pray so that you don’t fall into temptation. True, the spirit is eager, but human nature is weak.’
Wachet und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung fallet. Der Geist ist willig, doch das Fleisch ist schwach."
42 Again, a second time, he went away, and prayed. ‘My Father,’ he said, ‘if I cannot be spared this cup, but must drink it, your will be done!’
Er ging zum zweiten Male hin und betete: "Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch nicht vorübergehen kann, ohne daß ich ihn trinke, dann geschehe dein Wille."
43 And coming back again he found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy.
Er kam zurück und fand sie wieder schlafend; denn ihre Augen waren schwer geworden.
44 So he left them, and went away again, and prayed a third time, again saying the same words.
Da ließ er sie, ging hin und betete zum dritten Male mit den gleichen Worten.
45 Then he came to the disciples, and said, ‘Sleep on now, and rest yourselves. Look – my time is close at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of wicked people.
Alsdann begab er sich zu seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: "Noch schlafet ihr und ruhet; sehet, die Stunde ist gekommen, da der Menschensohn in die Hände der Sünder überliefert wird.
46 Up, and let us be going. Look! My betrayer is close at hand.’
Steht auf und laßt uns gehen. Seht, mein Verräter naht."
47 And, while he was still speaking, Judas, who was one of the Twelve, came in sight; and with him was a great crowd of people, with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Noch sprach er so, da kam schon Judas, einer aus den Zwölfen, mit ihm ein großer Haufen mit Schwertern und Prügeln im Auftrag der Oberpriester und der Ältesten des Volkes.
48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them. ‘The man whom I kiss,’ he had said, ‘will be the one; arrest him.’
Sein Verräter hatte mit ihnen ein Zeichen ausgemacht: "Den ich küssen werde, der ist es, den ergreifet!"
49 So he went up to Jesus at once, and exclaimed, ‘Welcome, Rabbi!’ and kissed him;
So schritt er denn sofort auf Jesus zu und sagte: "Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi!" und küßte ihn gar innig.
50 at which Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, do what you have come for.’ The men went up, seized Jesus, and arrested him.
Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Freund, wozu bist du gekommen? "Jetzt traten sie hinzu und legten Hand an Jesus und ergriffen ihn.
51 Suddenly one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and striking the high priest’s servant, cut off his ear.
Und siehe, einer von denen, die um Jesus waren, streckte seine Hand aus, zog sein Schwert, traf einen Knecht des Hohenpriesters und schlug ihm ein Ohr ab.
52 ‘Sheathe your sword,’ Jesus said, ‘for all who draw the sword will be put to the sword.
Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: "Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Ort; denn alle, die das Schwert ergreifen, werden durch das Schwert zugrunde gehen.
53 Do you think that I cannot ask my Father for help, when he would at once send to my aid more than twelve legions of angels?
Oder meinst du, ich könnte nicht meinen Vater bitten, und dieser würde nicht sofort mir mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel senden?
54 But in that case how would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that this must be?’
Wie würden aber dann die Schriften erfüllt, wonach es also kommen muß?"
55 Jesus at the same time said to the crowds, ‘Have you come out, as if after a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me? I have sat teaching day after day in the Temple Courts, and yet you did not arrest me.’
Und zu dem Haufen sagte Jesus in derselben Stunde: "Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr ausgezogen mit Schwertern und Prügeln, um mich zu ergreifen. Tag für Tag saß ich im Tempel, wo ich lehrte, und ihr habt mich nicht ergriffen."
56 The whole of this occurred in fulfilment of the prophetic scriptures. Then the disciples all forsook him and fled.
Dies alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten in Erfüllung gehen sollten. Jetzt ließen ihn alle Jünger im Stich und flohen.
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the Law and elders had assembled.
Die Häscher aber führten Jesus dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas vor. Dort hatten sich die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt.
58 Peter followed him at a distance as far as the high priest’s courtyard, to see the outcome.
Und Petrus folgte ihm von fern bis zum Palaste des Hohenpriesters. Er ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um zu sehen, wie es ausginge.
59 Meanwhile the chief priests and the whole of the High Council were trying to get such false evidence against Jesus, as would warrant putting him to death,
Die Oberpriester und der ganze Hohe Rat suchten nach einem falschen Zeugnis gegen Jesus, um ihn in den Tod zu bringen.
60 but they did not find any, although many came forward with false evidence. Later on, however, two men came forward and said,
Sie fanden aber keines, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen kamen.
61 ‘This man said “I am able to destroy the Temple of God, and to build it in three days.”’
Zuletzt traten noch zwei vor und sagten: "Er hat behauptet: 'Ich kann den Tempel Gottes niederreißen und ihn in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen.'"
62 Then the high priest stood up, and said to Jesus, ‘Have you no answer? What is this evidence which these men are giving against you?’
Da stand der Hohepriester auf und fragte ihn. "Weißt du nichts zu sagen auf das, was diese gegen dich aussagen?"
63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, ‘I order you, by the living God, to tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.’
Doch Jesus schwieg. Da sprach der Hohepriester zu ihm: "Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott: Sag uns: Bist du der Christus, der Sohn Gottes?"
64 ‘It is true,’ Jesus answered, ‘Moreover I tell you all that hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the Almighty, and coming on the clouds of the heavens.’
Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Ich bin es. Zudem aber sage ich euch: Von jetzt an werdet ihr den Menschensohn zur Rechten des Allmächtigen Gottes sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen."
65 Then the high priest tore his robes. ‘This is blasphemy!’ he exclaimed. ‘Why do we want any more witnesses? You have just heard his blasphemy!
Da zerriß der Hohepriester seine Kleider und rief: "Er hat Gott gelästert. Was brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Ihr habt ja seine Gotteslästerung gehört!
66 What is your decision?’ They answered, ‘He deserves death.’
Was dünkt euch?" Da riefen sie: "Er ist des Todes schuldig."
67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him, while others dealt blows at him, saying as they did so,
Nun spien sie ihm ins Gesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten; andere gaben ihm Stockschläge;
68 ‘Now play the prophet for us, you Christ! Who was it that struck you?’
sie höhnten: "Weissage uns, Christus: Wer ist es, der dich geschlagen hat?"
69 Peter, meanwhile, was sitting outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and exclaimed, ‘Why, you were with Jesus the Galilean!’
Petrus saß indes im Hofe draußen. Da trat eine Magd zu ihm und sprach. "Auch du warst bei Jesus, dem Galiläer."
70 But Peter denied it before them all. ‘I do not know what you mean,’ he replied.
Er aber leugnete es vor allen ab und sprach. "Ich verstehe nicht, was du sagst."
71 When he had gone out into the gateway, another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, ‘This man was with Jesus of Nazareth!’
Er ging zum Tore hinaus; da sah ihn eine andere Magd. Sie sprach zu denen, die dort standen: "Der war auch bei Jesus, dem Nazarener."
72 Again he denied it with an oath, ‘I do not know the man!’
Und nochmals leugnete er es mit einem Schwur: "Ich kenne den Menschen nicht."
73 But soon afterwards those who were standing by came up and said to Peter, ‘You also are certainly one of them; why, even your way of speaking proves it!’
Nach einer kleinen Weile traten die Umstehenden hinzu; sie sagten zu Petrus: "Wahrlich, auch du gehörst zu ihnen, dich verrät ja deine Sprache!"
74 Then Peter said, ‘I swear that I do not know the man! May God punish me if I am lying!’ At that moment a cock crowed;
Petrus fing an zu fluchen und zu schwören: "Ich kenne den Menschen nicht." Da krähte gleich darauf ein Hahn.
75 and Peter remembered the words which Jesus had said – “Before a cock has crowed, you will disown me three times”; and he went outside, and wept bitterly.
Und jetzt erinnerte sich Petrus des Wortes Jesu, als er sprach: "Noch vor dem Hahnenschrei wirst du mich dreimal verleugnet haben." Er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich.
