Matthew 25
1 ‘Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.
" Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, s'en allèrent au-devant de l'époux.
2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
Il y en avait cinq qui étaient folles, et cinq qui étaient sages.
3 The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them;
Les cinq folles, ayant pris leurs lampes, ne prirent pas d'huile avec elles;
4 while the prudent ones, besides taking their lamps, took oil in their jars.
mais les sages prirent de l'huile dans leurs vases avec leurs lampes.
5 As the groom was late in coming, they all became drowsy, and slept.
Comme l'époux tardait à venir, elles s'assoupirent toutes et s'endormirent.
6 But at midnight a shout was raised – “The groom is coming! Come out to meet him!”
Au milieu de la nuit, un cri s'éleva: Voici l'époux qui vient, allez au-devant de lui.
7 Then all the bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps,
Alors toutes ces vierges se levèrent et préparèrent leurs lampes.
8 and the foolish said to the prudent “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.”
Et les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s'éteignent.
9 But the prudent ones answered “No, There may not be enough for you and for us. Go instead to those who sell it, and buy for yourselves.”
Les sages répondirent: De crainte qu'il n'y en ait pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt chez ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.
10 But while they were on their way to buy it, the groom came; and the bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the banquet, and the door was shut.
Mais, pendant qu'elles allaient en acheter, l'époux arriva, et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.
11 Afterwards the other bridesmaids came. “Sir, Sir,” they said, “open the door to us!”
Plus tard, les autres vierges vinrent aussi, disant: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvrez-nous.
12 But the groom answered “I tell you, I do not know you.”
Il leur répondit: En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais pas.
13 Therefore watch, since you know neither the day nor the hour.
" Veillez donc, car vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l'heure.
14 ‘For it is as though a man, going on his travels, called his servants, and gave his property into their charge.
" Car il en sera comme d'un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur remit ses biens.
15 He gave five bags of gold to one, two to another, and one bag to a third, in proportion to the ability of each. Then he set out on his travels.
A l'un il donna cinq talents, à un autre deux, à un autre un, selon la capacité de chacun, et il partit aussitôt.
16 The servant who had received the five bags of gold went at once and traded with it, and made another five bags.
Celui qui avait reçu cinq talents, s'en étant allé, les fit valoir, et en gagna cinq autres.
17 So, too, the servant who had received the two bags of gold made another two bags.
De la même manière, celui qui en avait reçu deux, en gagna deux autres.
18 But the servant who had received the one bag went and dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.
Mais celui qui n'en avait reçu qu'un, s'en alla creuser la terre, et y cacha l'argent de son maître.
19 After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them.
Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs étant revenu, leur fit rendre compte.
20 The servant who had received the five bags of gold came up and brought five bags more. “Sir,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold; look, I have made another five bags!”
Celui qui avait reçu cinq talents s'approcha et lui en présenta cinq autres, en disant: Seigneur, vous m'aviez remis cinq talents; en voici de plus cinq autres que j'ai gagnés.
21 “Well done, good, trustworthy servant!” said his master. “You have been trustworthy with a small sum; now I will place a large one in your hands; come and share your master’s joy!”
Son maître lui dit: C'est bien, serviteur bon et fidèle; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t'établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
22 Then the one who had received the two bags of gold came up and said “Sir, you entrusted me with two bags pounds; look, I have made another two!”
Celui qui avait reçu deux talents, vint aussi, et dit: Seigneur, vous m'aviez remis deux talents, en voici deux autres que j'ai gagnés.
23 “Well done, good, trustworthy servant!” said his master. “You have been trustworthy with a small sum; now I will place a large one in your hands; come and share your master’s joy!”
Son maître lui dit: C'est bien, serviteur bon et fidèle, parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t'établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
24 The man who had received the single bag of gold came up, too, and said “Sir, I knew that you were a hard man; you reap where you have not sown, and gather up where you have not winnowed;
S'approchant à son tour, celui qui n'avait reçu qu'un talent, dit: Seigneur, je savais que vous êtes un homme dur, qui moissonnez où vous n'avez pas semé, et recueillez où vous n'avez pas vanné.
25 and, in my fear, I went and hid your money in the ground; look, here is what belongs to you!”
J'ai eu peur, et j'ai été cacher votre talent dans la terre; le voici, je vous rends ce qui est à vous.
26 “You lazy, worthless servant!” was his master’s reply. “You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather up where I have not winnowed?
Son maître lui répondit: Serviteur méchant et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n'ai pas semé, et que je recueille où je n'ai pas vanné;
27 Then you ought to have placed my money in the hands of bankers, and I, on my return, should have received my money, with interest.
il te fallait donc porter mon argent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j'aurais retiré ce qui m'appartient avec un intérêt.
28 Therefore,” he continued, “take away from him the one bag of gold, and give it to the one who has the ten bags.
Otez-lui ce talent, et donnez-le à celui qui en a dix.
29 For, to him who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but, as for him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away from him.
Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l'abondance; mais à celui qui n'a pas, on ôtera même ce qu'il a.
30 As for the useless servant, put him out into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.”
Et ce serviteur inutile, jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieures: c'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
31 ‘When the Son of Man has come in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory;
" Lorsque le Fils de l'homme viendra dans sa gloire, et tous les anges avec lui, il s'assiéra sur le trône de sa gloire.
32 and all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people – just as a shepherd separates sheep from goats –
Et, toutes les nations étant rassemblées devant lui, il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le pasteur sépare les brebis d'avec les boucs.
33 placing the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on his left.
Et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche.
34 Then the king will say to those on his right “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, enter into possession of the kingdom prepared for you ever since the beginning of the world.
Alors le Roi dira à ceux qui sont à sa droite: Venez, les bénis de mon Père: prenez possession du royaume qui vous a été préparé dès l'origine du monde.
35 For, when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger, you took me to your homes;
Car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avez donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire; j'étais étranger, et vous m'avez recueilli;
36 when I was naked, you clothed me; when I fell ill, you visited me; and when I was in prison, you came to me.”
nu, et vous m'avez vêtu; malade, et vous m'avez visité; en prison, et vous êtes venus à moi.
37 Then the righteous will answer “Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you? Or thirsty, and give you a drink?
Les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim, et vous avons-nous donné à manger; avoir soif, et vous avons-nous donné à boire?
38 When did we see you a stranger, and take you to our homes? Or naked, and clothe you?
Quand vous avons-nous vu étranger, et vous avons-nous recueilli; nu, et vous avons-nous vêtu?
39 When did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?”
Quand vous avons-nous vu malade ou en prison, et sommes-nous venus à vous?
40 And the king will reply “I tell you, as often as you did it to one of these my brothers or sisters, however unimportant they seemed, you did it to me.”
Et le Roi leur répondra: En vérité, je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous l'avez fait à l'un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c'est à moi que vous l'avez fait.
41 Then he will say to those on his left “Go from my presence, accursed, into the permanent fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels. (aiōnios g166)
S'adressant ensuite à ceux qui seront à sa gauche, il dira: Retirez-vous de moi, maudits, allez au feu éternel, qui a été préparé pour le diable et ses anges. (aiōnios g166)
42 For, when I was hungry, you gave me no food; when I was thirsty, you gave me no drink;
Car j'ai eu faim, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à boire;
43 when I was a stranger, you did not take me to your homes; when I was naked, you did not clothe me; and, when I was ill and in prison, you did not visit me.”
j'étais étranger, et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli; nu, et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu; malade et en prison, et vous ne m'avez pas visité.
44 Then they, in their turn, will answer “Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and did not supply your wants?”
Alors eux aussi lui diront: Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim ou soif, ou être étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne vous avons-nous pas assisté?
45 And then he will reply “I tell you, as often as you failed to do it to one of these, however unimportant, you failed to do it to me.”
Et il leur répondra: En vérité, je vous le dis, chaque fois que vous ne l'avez pas fait à l'un de ces plus petits, c'est à moi que vous ne l'avez pas fait.
