Matthew 11
1 After Jesus had finished giving directions to his twelve Disciples, he left that place in order to teach and preach in their towns.
Quando Jesus acabou de dar as ordens aos seus doze discípulos, partiu dali para ensinar e para pregar em suas cidades.
2 Now John had heard in prison what the Christ was doing, and he sent a message by his disciples,
E João, ao ouvir na prisão as obras de Cristo, enviou [-lhe] por seus discípulos,
3 and asked – ‘Are you “the coming one,” or are we to look for someone else?’
Perguntando-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?
4 The answer of Jesus to the question was – ‘Go and report to John what you hear and see –
Jesus lhes respondeu: Ide anunciar a João as coisas que ouvis e vedes:
5 the blind recover their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are made clean and the deaf hear, the dead, too, are raised to life, and the good news is told to the poor.
Os cegos veem, e os mancos andam; os leprosos são limpos, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são ressuscitados, e aos pobres é anunciado o Evangelho;
6 Blessed is the person who finds no hindrance in me.’
E bendito é aquele que não se ofender em mim.
7 While John’s disciples were going back, Jesus began to say to the crowds with reference to John,
Depois que eles se foram, Jesus começou a dizer às multidões acerca de João: Que saístes ao deserto para ver? Uma cana que se move pelo vento?
8 ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed waving in the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man richly dressed? Why, those who wear rich things are to be found in the courts of kings!
Mas que saístes para ver? Um homem vestido com [roupas] delicadas? Eis que os que usam roupas delicadas estão nas casas dos reis.
9 What, then, did you go for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
Mas que saístes para ver? Um profeta? Sim, eu vos digo, e muito mais que um profeta;
10 This is the man of whom scripture says – “I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way before you.”
Este é aquele sobre o qual está escrito: ‘Eis que diante de tua face envio o meu mensageiro, que preparará o teu caminho diante de ti.’
11 I tell you, no one born of a woman has yet appeared who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Em verdade vos digo que, dentre os nascidos de mulheres, não se levantou [outro] maior que João Batista; porém o menor no Reino dos céus é maior que ele.
12 From the time of John the Baptist to this very hour, the kingdom of heaven has been taken by force, and people using force have been seizing it.
E desde os dias de João Batista até agora, o Reino dos céus está sujeito à violência, e os que usam de violência se apoderam dele.
13 For the teaching of all the prophets and of the Law continued until the time of John;
Porque todos os profetas e a Lei profetizaram até João.
14 and – if you are ready to accept it – John is himself the Elijah who was destined to come.
E se estais dispostos a aceitar, este é o Elias que havia de vir.
15 If you have ears, listen.
Quem tem ouvidos, ouça.
16 But to what will I compare the present generation? It is like little children sitting in the market-places and calling out to their playmates –
Mas com quem compararei esta geração? Semelhante é às crianças que se sentam nas praças, que chamam aos outros,
17 We have played the flute for you, but you have not danced; We have wailed, but you have not mourned.
E dizem: ‘Tocamos flauta para vós, mas não dançastes; cantamos lamentações, mas não chorastes.’
18 For, when John came, neither eating nor drinking, people said “He has a demon in him”;
Porque veio João, sem comer nem beber, e dizem: ‘Ele tem demônio.’
19 and now that the Son of Man has come, eating and drinking, they are saying “Here is a glutton and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax collectors and outcasts!” And yet wisdom is vindicated by her actions.’
Veio o Filho do homem, que come e bebe, e dizem: ‘Eis aqui um homem comilão e beberrão, amigo de publicanos e pecadores!’ Mas a sabedoria prova-se justa por meio de suas obras.
20 Then Jesus began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been done, because they had not repented,
Então ele começou a repreender as cidades em que a maioria de seus milagres haviam sido feitos, por não terem se arrependido:
21 ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For, if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Ai de ti Corazim! Ai de ti Betsaida! Porque se em Tiro e em Sidom tivessem sido feitos os milagres que em vós foram feitos, há muito tempo teriam se arrependido com saco e com cinza!
22 Yet, I tell you, the doom of Tyre and Sidon will be more bearable in the day of judgment than yours.
Porém eu vos digo que mais tolerável será para Tiro e Sidom, no dia do juízo, que para vós.
23 And you, Capernaum! Will you exalt yourself to heaven? You will be flung down to Hades! For, if the miracles which have been done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing to this day. (Hadēs g86)
E tu, Cafarnaum, estarás tu exaltada até o céu? Ao Xeol serás derrubada! Pois se em Sodoma tivessem sido feitos os milagres que foram feitos em ti, ela teria permanecido até hoje. (Hadēs g86)
24 Yet, I tell you, the doom of Sodom will be more bearable in the day of judgment than yours.’
Porém eu vos digo que mais tolerável será para os da região de Sodoma, no dia de juízo, que para ti.
25 At that same time Jesus uttered the words, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that, though you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, you have revealed them to the childlike!
Naquele tempo Jesus pronunciou: Graças te dou, Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste estas coisas aos sábios e entendidos, e as revelaste às crianças.
26 Yes, Father, I thank you that this has seemed good to you.
Sim, Pai, porque assim foi agradável a ti.
27 Everything has been committed to me by my Father; nor does anyone fully know the Son, except the Father, or fully know the Father, except the Son and those to whom the Son may choose to reveal him.
Todas as coisas me foram entregues pelo meu Pai; e ninguém conhece o Filho, a não ser o Pai; nem ninguém conhece o Pai, a não ser o Filho, e a quem o Filho [o] quiser revelar.
28 Come to me, all you who toil and are burdened, and I will give you rest!
Vinde a mim todos vós que estais cansados e sobrecarregados, e eu vos farei descansar.
29 Take my yoke on you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest for your souls;
Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo e aprendei de mim, porque sou manso e humilde de coração; e encontrareis descanso para as vossas almas.
30 for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
Pois o meu jugo é suave, e minha carga é leve.
