Luke 3
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of the Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod ruler of Galilee, his brother Philip ruler of the territory comprising Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene,
Y EN el año quince del imperio de Tiberio César, siendo gobernador de Judea Poncio Pilato, y Herodes tetrarca de Galilea, y su hermano Felipe tetrarca de Iturea y de la provincia de Traconite, y Lisanias tetrarca de Abilinia,
2 and when Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, a command from God came to John, the son of Zechariah, while he was in the wilderness.
Siendo sumos sacerdotes Anás y Caifás, vino palabra del Señor sobre Juan, hijo de Zacarías, en el desierto.
3 And John went through the whole district of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance, for the forgiveness of sins.
Y él vino por toda la tierra al rededor del Jordán predicando el bautismo del arrepentimiento para la remisión de pecados;
4 This was in fulfilment of what is said in the writings of the prophet Isaiah – “The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: ‘Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Como está escrito en el libro de las palabras del profeta Isaías que dice: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, haced derechas sus sendas.
5 Every chasm will be filled, every mountain and hill will be levelled. The winding ways will be straightened, the rough roads made smooth,
Todo valle se henchirá, y bajaráse todo monte y collado; y los [caminos] torcidos serán enderezados, y los caminos ásperos allanados;
6 and everyone will see the salvation of God.’”
Y verá toda carne la salvación de Dios.
7 And John said to the crowds that went to be baptized by him, ‘You children of snakes! Who has prompted you to seek refuge from the coming judgment?
Y decía á las gentes que salían para ser bautizadas de él: ¡Oh generación de víboras, quién os enseñó á huir de la ira que vendrá?
8 Let your lives, then, prove your repentance; and do not begin to say among yourselves “Abraham is our ancestor,” for I tell you that out of these stones God is able to raise descendants for Abraham!
Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comencéis á decir en vosotros mismos: Tenemos á Abraham por padre: porque os digo que puede Dios, aun de estas piedras, levantar hijos á Abraham.
9 Already, indeed, the axe is lying at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that fails to bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.’
Y ya también el hacha está puesta á la raíz de los árboles: todo árbol pues que no hace buen fruto, es cortado, y echado en el fuego.
10 ‘What are we to do then?’ the people asked.
Y las gentes le preguntaban, diciendo: ¿Pues qué haremos?
11 ‘Let anyone who has two coats,’ answered John, ‘share with the person who has none; and anyone who has food do the same.’
Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos túnicas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene qué comer, haga lo mismo.
12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and said to John, ‘Teacher, what are we to do?’
Y vinieron también publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: Maestro, ¿qué haremos?
13 ‘Do not collect more than you have authority to demand,’ John answered.
Y él les dijo: No exijáis más de lo que os está ordenado.
14 And when some soldiers on active service asked ‘And we – what are we to do?’ he said, ‘Never use violence, or exact anything by false accusation; and be content with your pay.’
Y le preguntaron también los soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué haremos? Y les dice: No hagáis extorsión á nadie, ni calumniéis; y contentaos con vuestras pagas.
15 Then, while the people were in suspense, and were all debating with themselves whether John could be the Christ,
Y estando el pueblo esperando, y pensando todos de Juan en sus corazones, si él fuese el Cristo,
16 John, addressing them all, said, ‘I, indeed, baptize you with water; but there is coming one more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to unfasten his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Respondió Juan, diciendo á todos: Yo, á la verdad, os bautizo en agua; mas viene quien es más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de sus zapatos: él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego;
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand so that he may clear his threshing-floor, and store the grain in his barn, but the chaff he will burn with a fire that cannot be put out.’
Cuyo bieldo está en su mano, y limpiará su era, y juntará el trigo en su alfolí, y la paja quemará en fuego que nunca se apagará.
18 And so with many different appeals John told his good news to the people.
Y amonestando, otras muchas cosas también anunciaba al pueblo.
19 But when John rebuked Herod the ruler, for Herodia his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things that he had done,
Entonces Herodes el tetrarca, siendo reprendido por él á causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano, y de todas las maldades que había hecho Herodes,
20 Herod crowned them all by shutting John up in prison.
Añadió también esto sobre todo, que encerró á Juan en la cárcel.
21 Now after the baptism of all the people, and when Jesus had been baptized and was still praying, the heavens opened,
Y aconteció que, como todo el pueblo se bautizaba, también Jesús fué bautizado; y orando, el cielo se abrió,
22 and the Holy Spirit came down on him in the form of a dove, and from the heavens came a voice – ‘You are my dearly loved son; you bring me great joy.’
Y descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre él en forma corporal, como paloma, y fué hecha una voz del cielo que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti me he complacido.
23 When beginning his work, Jesus was about thirty years old. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, whose ancestors were – Eli,
Y el mismo Jesús comenzaba á ser como de treinta años, hijo de José, como se creía; que fué hijo de Elí,
24 Mattith, Levi, Melchiah, Janna, Joseph,
Que fué de Mathat, que fué de Leví, que fué de Melchî, que fué de Janna, que fué de José,
25 Mattithiah, Amos, Nahum, Azaliah, Nogah,
Que fué de Mattathías, que fué de Amós, que fué de Nahum, que fué de Esli,
26 Mattith, Mattithiah, Shimei, Joseph, Josheh,
Que fué de Naggai, que fué de Maat, que fué de Mattathías, que fué de Semei, que fué de José, que fué de Judá,
27 Johanan, Rhesa, Zerubbabel, Salathiel, Neriah,
Que fué de Joanna, que fué de Rhesa, que fué de Zorobabel, que fué de Salathiel,
28 Melchiah, Addi, Cosam, Elmodam, Er,
Que fué de Neri, que fué de Melchî, que fué de Abdi, que fué de Cosam, que fué de Elmodam, que fué de Er,
29 Joshua, Eliezer, Joram, Mattith, Levi,
Que fué de Josué, que fué de Eliezer, que fué de Joreim, que fué de Mathat,
30 Simeon, Judah, Joseph, Jonam, Eliakim,
Que fué de Leví, que fué de Simeón, que fué de Judá, que fué de José, que fué de Jonán, que fué de Eliachîm,
31 Meleah, Menan, Mattithiah, Nathan, David,
Que fué de Melea, que fué de Mainán, que fué de Mattatha, que fué de Nathán,
32 Jesse, Obed, Boaz, Salah, Nahshon,
Que fué de David, que fué de Jessé, que fué de Obed, que fué de Booz, que fué de Salmón, que fué de Naassón,
33 Aminadab, Arni, Hezron, Perez, Judah,
Que fué de Aminadab, que fué de Aram, que fué de Esrom, que fué de Phares,
34 Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Terah, Nahor,
Que fué de Judá, que fué de Jacob, que fué de Isaac, que fué de Abraham, que fué de Thara, que fué de Nachôr,

38 Enosh, Seth, son of Adam, and Adam, son of God.
Que fué de Cainán, que fué de Enós, que fué de Seth, que fué de Adam, que fué de Dios.
