< John 1 >

1 In the beginning the Word was; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God.
Pachiyambi panali Mawu, ndipo Mawu anali kwa Mulungu, ndipo Mawu ndiye Mulungu.
2 He was in the beginning with God;
Mawuwa anali ndi Mulungu pachiyambi.
3 through him all things came into being, and nothing came into being apart from him.
Zinthu zonse zinalengedwa ndi Iye; ndipo popanda Iye sikukanakhala kanthu kalikonse kolengedwa.
4 That which came into being in him was life; and the life was the light of humanity;
Mwa Iye munali moyo, ndipo moyowo unali kuwunika kwa anthu.
5 and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness never overpowered it.
Kuwunika kunawala mu mdima, koma mdimawo sunakuzindikire.
6 There appeared a man sent from God, whose name was John;
Kunabwera munthu amene anatumizidwa kuchokera kwa Mulungu; Iyeyo dzina lake linali Yohane.
7 he came as a witness – to bear witness to the light so that through him everyone might believe.
Iye anabwera ngati mboni kudzachitira umboni kuwunikako kuti kudzera mwa iye anthu onse akhulupirire.
8 He was not the light, but he came to bear witness to the light.
Iyeyu sanali kuwunika; koma anabwera ngati mboni ya kuwunika.
9 That was the true light which enlightens everyone coming into the world.
Kuwunika koona kumene kuwunikira munthu aliyense kunabwera ku dziko lapansi.
10 He was in the world; and through him the world came into being – yet the world did not know him.
Iye anali mʼdziko lapansi, ndipo ngakhale kuti dziko lapansi linalengedwa ndi Iye, dziko lapansilo silinamuzindikire Iye.
11 He came to his own – yet his own did not receive him.
Iye anabwera kwa iwo amene anali akeake, koma akewo sanamulandire Iye.
12 But to all who did receive him he gave power to become children of God – to those who believe in his name.
Koma kwa onse amene anamulandira Iye, kwa amene anakhulupirira mʼdzina lake, Iye anawapatsa mphamvu yokhala ana a Mulungu;
13 For not to natural conception, nor to human instincts, nor to human will did they owe the new life, but to God.
ana wobadwa osati monga mwachilengedwe, kapena chisankho cha munthu, kapena chifuniro cha mwamuna koma wobadwa mwa Mulungu.
14 And the Word became human, and lived among us, (We saw his glory – the glory of the Only Son sent from the Father), full of love and truth.
Mawu anasandulika thupi ndipo anakhala pakati pathu. Ife tinaona ulemerero wake, ulemerero wa Iye amene ndi Mwana mmodzi yekhayo wa Atate, wodzaza ndi chisomo ndi choonadi.
15 (John bears witness to him; he cried aloud – for it was he who spoke – ‘He who is coming after me is now before me, for he was ever first’);
Yohane achitira umboni za Iye. Iye akufuwula kuti, “Uyu ndi Iye amene ndinati, ‘Iye amene akubwera pambuyo panga ndi wondiposa ine chifukwa, Iyeyo analipo ine ndisanabadwe.’”
16 out of his fullness we have all received gift after gift of love;
Kuchokera mʼkuchuluka kwa chisomo chake ife tonse talandira madalitso pamwamba pa madalitso.
17 for the Law was given through Moses, love and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Pakuti lamulo linapatsidwa kudzera mwa Mose; chisomo ndi choonadi zinabwera kudzera mwa Yesu Khristu.
18 No one has ever yet seen God; God the only Son, who is ever with the Father – he has revealed him.
Palibe munthu amene anaona Mulungu, koma Mwana mmodzi yekhayo amene ali wa pamtima pa Atate, ndiye anafotokoza za Iye.
19 When the religious authorities in Jerusalem sent some Priests and Levites to ask John – ‘Who are you?’,
Tsopano uwu ndi umboni wa Yohane pamene Ayuda a ku Yerusalemu anatumiza ansembe ndi Alevi kudzamufunsa kuti iye anali yani.
20 he told them clearly and simply, ‘I am not the Christ.’
Iye sanalephere kuvomereza, koma iye anavomereza momasuka kuti, “Ine sindine Khristu.”
21 ‘What then?’ they asked. ‘Are you Elijah?’ ‘No,’ he said, ‘I am not.’ ‘Are you “the prophet”?’ He answered, ‘No.’
Iwo anamufunsa kuti, “Nanga iwe ndiwe yani? Kodi ndiwe Eliya?” Iye anati, “Sindine.” “Kodi ndiwe Mneneri?” Iye anayankha kuti, “Ayi.”
22 ‘Who then are you?’ they continued. ‘Tell us so that we have an answer to give to those who have sent us. What do you say about yourself?’
Pomaliza iwo anati, “Ndiwe yani? Tipatse yankho kuti tipite nalo kwa amene anatituma. Kodi iwe ukuti chiyani za iwe mwini?”
23 ‘I,’ he answered, ‘am – “The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: make a straight road for the Lord”, as the prophet Isaiah said.’
Yohane anayankha ndi mawu a mneneri Yesaya kuti, “Ine ndi mawu a wofuwula mʼchipululu, ‘Wongolani njira ya Ambuye.’”
24 These men had been sent from the Pharisees;
Tsopano Afarisi ena amene anatumidwa
25 and their next question was, ‘Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ or Elijah or “the prophet”?’
anamufunsa Iye kuti, “Kodi ndi chifukwa chiyani, umabatiza ngati iwe si Khristu, kapena Eliya, kapena Mneneri?”
26 John’s answer was – ‘I baptize with water, but among you stands one whom you do not know;
Yohane anayankha kuti, “Ine ndimabatiza ndi madzi, koma pakati panu payima amene simukumudziwa.
27 he is coming after me, yet I am not worthy even to unfasten his sandal.’
Iye ndi amene akubwera pambuyo panga, ine siwoyenera kumasula zingwe za nsapato zake.”
28 This happened at Bethany, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Zonsezi zinachitika ku Betaniya kutsidya lina la mtsinje wa Yorodani, kumene Yohane ankabatizira.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him, and exclaimed, ‘Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Pa tsiku lotsatira Yohane anaona Yesu akubwera kwa iye ndipo anati, “Taonani, Mwana Wankhosa wa Mulungu, amene achotsa tchimo la dziko lapansi!
30 I was talking about him when I said “After me there is coming a man who ranks ahead of me, because before I was born he already was.”
Uyu ndi amene ndimatanthauza pamene ndinanena kuti, ‘Munthu amene akubwera pambuyo panga ndi wondiposa ine chifukwa analipo ine ndisanabadwe.’
31 I did not know who he was, but I have come baptizing with water to make him known to Israel.’
Ine mwini sindinamudziwe Iye, koma ndinabwera kubatiza ndi madzi kuti Iye adziwike mu Israeli.”
32 John also said: ‘I saw the Spirit come down from heaven like a dove and rest on him.
Kenaka Yohane anapereka umboni uwu: “Ine ndinaona Mzimu Woyera ngati nkhunda kuchokera kumwamba nakhala pa Iye.
33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, he said to me “He on whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him – he it is who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.”
Ine sindikanamudziwa Iye, koma kuti amene anandituma ine kudzabatiza ndi madzi anati kwa ine, ‘Munthu amene udzaona Mzimu Woyera akutsika nakhazikika pa Iye ndi amene adzabatize ndi Mzimu Woyera.’
34 This I have seen myself, and I have declared my belief that he is the Son of God.’
Ine ndaona ndipo ndikuchitira umboni kuti uyu ndi Mwana wa Mulungu.”
35 The next day, when John was standing with two of his disciples,
Pa tsiku lotsatira Yohane analinso pamenepo pamodzi ndi awiri a ophunzira ake.
36 he looked at Jesus as he passed and exclaimed, ‘There is the Lamb of God!’
Iye ataona Yesu akudutsa anati, “Taonani Mwana Wankhosa wa Mulungu!”
37 The two disciples heard him say this, and followed Jesus.
Ophunzira ake awiriwo atamva iye akunena izi, iwo anamutsatira Yesu.
38 But Jesus turned round, and saw them following. ‘What are you looking for?’ he asked. ‘Rabbi,’ they answered (or, as we should say, “Teacher”), ‘where are you staying?’
Atatembenuka, Yesu anaona iwo akumutsatira ndipo anawafunsa kuti, “Kodi mukufuna chiyani?” Iwo anati, “Rabi (kutanthauza kuti Aphunzitsi), kodi mukukhala kuti?”
39 ‘Come, and you will see,’ he replied. So they went, and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was then about four in the afternoon.
Iye anayankha kuti, “Bwerani mudzaone.” Choncho iwo anapita ndi kukaona kumene Iye amakhala, ndipo anakhala naye tsiku limenelo. Linali ngati pafupifupi ora la khumi.
40 One of the two, who heard what John said and followed Jesus, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
Andreya mʼbale wake wa Simoni Petro, anali mmodzi wa awiriwo amene anamva zimene Yohane ananena ndiponso amene anamutsata Yesu.
41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah!’ (a word which means “Christ,” or “Consecrated”.)
Choncho chimene Andreya anachita ndi kukapeza mʼbale wake Simoni ndipo anamuwuza kuti, “Ife tamupeza Mesiya,” (kutanthauza kuti Khristu).
42 Then he brought him to Jesus. Looking straight at him, Jesus said, ‘You are Simon, the son of John; you will be called Cephas’ (which means “Peter,” or “Rock”).
Kenaka iye anabweretsa Simoni kwa Yesu, amene anamuyangʼana ndipo anati, “Iwe ndiwe Simoni, mwana wa Yohane. Udzatchedwa Kefa” (limene litanthauza kuti Petro).
43 The following day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. He found Philip, and said to him, ‘Follow me.’
Pa tsiku lotsatira Yesu anaganiza zopita ku Galileya. Atamupeza Filipo, anati kwa iye, “Nditsate.”
44 Philip was from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter.
Filipo monga Andreya ndi Petro, anali wochokera ku mzinda mudzi Betisaida.
45 He found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and of whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, Joseph’s son!’
Filipo anakapeza Natanieli ndipo anamuwuza kuti, “Ife tapeza amene Mose analemba za Iye mʼmalamulo, ndi zimene aneneri analembanso za Iye, Yesu wa ku Nazareti, mwana wa Yosefe.”
46 ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ asked Nathanael. ‘Come and see,’ replied Philip.
Natanieli anafunsa kuti, “Nazareti! Kodi kanthu kalikonse kabwino kangachokere kumeneko?” Filipo anati, “Bwera udzaone.”
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said, ‘Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!’
Yesu atamuona Natanieli akuyandikira, anati kwa iye, “Uyu ndi Mwisraeli weniweni, mwa iye mulibe chinyengo.”
48 ‘How do you know me?’ asked Nathanael. ‘Even before Philip called you,’ replied Jesus, ‘when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.’
Natanieli anafunsa kuti, “Kodi mwandidziwa bwanji?” Yesu anayankha kuti, “Ine ndinakuona iwe utakhala pansi pamtengo wamkuyu Filipo asanakuyitane.”
49 ‘Rabbi,’ Nathanael exclaimed, ‘you are the Son of God, you are king of Israel!’
Kenaka Natanieli ananena kuti, “Rabi, Inu ndinu Mwana wa Mulungu; Inu ndinu Mfumu ya Israeli.”
50 ‘Do you believe in me,’ asked Jesus, ‘because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than those!
Yesu anati, “Ukukhulupirira chifukwa chakuti ndakuwuza kuti Ine ndinakuona iwe uli pansi pamtengo wamkuyu? Iwe udzaona zinthu zazikulu kuposa izo.”
51 In truth I tell you,’ he added, ‘you will all see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.’
Ndipo Iye anapitirira kuti, “Zoonadi, Ine ndikuwuza kuti iwe udzaona kumwamba, kutatsekuka ndi angelo a Mulungu akukwera ndi kutsika pa Mwana wa Munthu.”
