John 13
1 Before the Passover Festival began, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave the world and go to the Father. He had loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them to the last.
பஸ்கா என்ற பண்டிகை தொடங்க இருந்தது. இயேசு தாம் இந்த உலகத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு பிதாவினிடத்திற்கு போகும்வேளை நெருங்கி விட்டதை அறிந்திருந்தார். உலகத்திலே தமக்கு உரியவர்களுக்கு அன்புகாட்டிய அவர், இப்பொழுது தமது அன்பின் முழுமையையும் காட்டினார்.
2 The devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon;
இரவு உணவு பரிமாறப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தது. இயேசுவைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கும்படி, சீமோனின் மகனாகிய யூதாஸ் ஸ்காரியோத்தை ஏற்கெனவே சாத்தான் உள்ளத்தில் ஏவிவிட்டிருந்தான்.
3 and at supper, Jesus – although knowing that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God, and was to return to God –
பிதா எல்லாவற்றையும் தமது வல்லமையின்கீழ் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்திருந்ததையும், தான் இறைவனிடத்திலிருந்து வந்ததையும், இறைவனிடத்திற்கே திரும்பிப் போகிறதையும் இயேசு அறிந்திருந்தார்.
4 rose from his place, and, taking off his upper garments, tied a towel round his waist.
எனவே அவர் உணவுப் பந்தியிலிருந்து எழுந்து தமது மேலுடையைக் கழற்றி வைத்துவிட்டு, ஒரு சால்வையை எடுத்து இடுப்பிலேக் கட்டிக் கொண்டார்.
5 He then poured some water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel which was tied round him.
அதற்குப் பின்பு, அவர் ஒரு பாத்திரத்திலே தண்ணீரை ஊற்றி, தம்முடைய சீடர்களின் கால்களைக் கழுவினார். பின் தம்முடைய இடுப்பிலே கட்டியிருந்தச் சால்வையினால் அவர்களுடைய கால்களைத் துடைக்கத் தொடங்கினார்.
6 When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said, ‘You, Master! Are you going to wash my feet?’
இயேசு சீமோன் பேதுருவிடம் வந்தபோது, அவன் அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரே, நீர் என் கால்களைக் கழுவப்போகிறீரா?” என்றான்.
7 ‘You do not understand now what I am doing,’ replied Jesus, ‘but you will learn by and by.’
இயேசு அதற்குப் பதிலாக, “நான் செய்வது இன்னதென்று உனக்கு இப்போது புரியாது, பின்பு நீ புரிந்துகொள்வாய்” என்றார்.
8 ‘You will never wash my feet!’ exclaimed Peter. ‘Unless I wash you,’ answered Jesus, ‘you have nothing in common with me.’ (aiōn g165)
அப்பொழுது பேதுரு அவரிடம், “இல்லை, நீர் ஒருபோதும் என் கால்களைக் கழுவக்கூடாது” என்றான். அதற்கு இயேசு, “நான் உன்னைக் கழுவாவிட்டால், என்னுடன் உனக்கு ஒரு பங்கும் இல்லை” என்றார். (aiōn g165)
9 ‘Then, Master, not my feet only,’ exclaimed Simon Peter, ‘but also my hands and my head.’
அப்பொழுது சீமோன் பேதுரு, “ஆண்டவரே, அப்படியானால் என் கால்களை மாத்திரமல்ல, என்னுடைய கைகளையும் என்னுடைய தலையையுங்கூட கழுவும்!” என்றான்.
10 ‘He who has bathed,’ replied Jesus, ‘has no need to wash, unless it be his feet, but is altogether clean; and you,’ he said to the disciples, ‘are clean, yet not all of you.’
அதற்கு இயேசுவோ, “குளித்தவன் தன் கால்களை மாத்திரமே கழுவ வேண்டியவனாயிருக்கிறான்; மற்றப்படி அவனுடைய முழு உடலும் சுத்தமாயிருக்கிறது. நீங்களும் சுத்தமாயிருக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனால் எல்லோரும் அல்ல” என்றார்.
11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said “You are not all clean.”
ஏனெனில் தம்மைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கப் போகிறவன் யார் என்று அவர் அறிந்திருந்தார். அதனாலேயே, “நீங்கள் எல்லோரும் சுத்தமானவர்கள் அல்ல” என்று சொன்னார்.
12 When he had washed their feet, and had put on his upper garments and taken his place, he spoke to them again. ‘Do you understand what I have been doing to you?’ he asked.
அவர்களுடைய கால்களைக் கழுவி முடித்தபின்பு, இயேசு தம்முடைய உடையை உடுத்தி கொண்டு, மீண்டும் தமக்குரிய இடத்தில் உட்கார்ந்தார். அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நான் உங்களுக்கு என்ன செய்தேன் என்று உங்களுக்கு விளங்குகிறதா?” என்று கேட்டார்.
13 ‘You yourselves call me “the teacher” and “the Master”, and you are right, for I am both.
மேலும் அவர், “நீங்கள் என்னைப் ‘போதகர்’ என்றும், ‘கர்த்தர்’ என்றும் அழைக்கிறீர்கள். நீங்கள் அப்படி அழைப்பது சரியே. ஏனெனில் நான் அவர்தான்.
14 If I, then – “the Master” and “the teacher” – have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet;
அப்படியே கர்த்தரும் போதகருமாயிருக்கிற நானே உங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவியிருக்கிறேன். நீங்களும்கூட ஒருவருக்கொருவர் உங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவவேண்டும்.
15 for I have given you an example, so that you may do just as I have done to you.
ஏனெனில் நான் உங்களுக்குச் செய்ததுபோலவே, நீங்களும் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று நான் உங்களுக்கு ஒரு முன்மாதிரியைக் காண்பித்திருக்கிறேன்.
16 In truth I tell you, a servant is not greater than their master, neither is a messenger greater than the one who sends them.
மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், எந்த வேலையாளும் தன்னுடைய எஜமானைவிடப் பெரியவன் அல்ல. எந்தத் தூதனும் தன்னை அனுப்பியவனைவிடப் பெரியவன் அல்ல.
17 Now that you know these things, happy are you if you do them.
நீங்கள் இப்போது இவைகளை அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அப்படியே நீங்கள் இவைகளைச் செய்தால் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவீர்கள்” என்றார்.
18 I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but this is in fulfilment of the words of scripture – “He that is eating my bread has lifted his heel against me.”
இயேசு தொடர்ந்து அவர்களிடம், “நான் உங்கள் எல்லோரைக் குறித்தும் பேசவில்லை; நான் எவர்களைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டேன் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியும். ஆனால் ‘என்னோடு உணவு உண்டவனே எனக்கு விரோதமாய் இருக்கிறான்’ என்ற வேதவசனம் நிறைவேற வேண்டும்.
19 For the future I will tell you of things before they take place, so that, when they take place, you may believe that I am what I am.
“அது நிகழும் முன்பதாகவே இப்போது நான் அதை உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஏனெனில் அது நிகழும்போது, நானே அவர் என்று நீங்கள் விசுவாசிப்பீர்கள்.
20 In truth I tell you, the one who receives anyone that I send receives me; and the person who receives me receives him who sent me.’
மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், நான் அனுப்புகிற எவனையாவது ஒருவன் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டால், அவன் என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறான். யாராவது என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டால் அவன் என்னை அனுப்பியவரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறான்” என்றார்.
21 After saying this, Jesus was much troubled, and said solemnly, ‘In truth I tell you that it is one of you who will betray me.’
இயேசு இதைச் சொன்னபின்பு, அவர் உள்ளம் கலங்கியவராய், “மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், உங்களில் ஒருவன் என்னைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கப் போகிறான்” என்று வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்கிறேன்.
22 The disciples looked at one another, wondering whom he meant.
அவருடைய சீடர்களோ அவர் யாரைக்குறித்துச் சொல்கிறார் என்று புரியாதவர்களாய், குழப்பத்துடன் ஒருவரையொருவர் பார்த்தார்கள்.
23 Next to Jesus, in the place on his right hand, was one of his disciples, whom he loved.
இயேசுவின் அன்பிற்குரிய சீடன் உணவுப் பந்தியிலே அவருக்கருகில் நெருங்கி உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்.
24 So Simon Peter made signs to that disciple, and whispered, ‘Tell me who it is that he means.’
சீமோன் பேதுரு அவனுக்குச் சைகை காட்டி, இயேசு யாரைக்குறித்துப் பேசுகிறார் என்று அவரிடத்தில் கேட்கும்படி அவனுக்குச் சொன்னான்.
25 Being in this position, that disciple leant back on Jesus’ shoulder, and asked him, ‘Who is it, Master?’
எனவே அவன் இயேசுவின் மார்பிலே சாய்ந்துகொண்டு, “ஆண்டவரே அவன் யார்?” என்று கேட்டான்.
26 ‘It is the one,’ answered Jesus, ‘to whom I will give a piece of bread after dipping it in the dish.’ And, when Jesus had dipped the bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot;
அதற்கு இயேசு, “நான் இந்த அப்பத் துண்டை பாத்திரத்தில் தோய்த்து யாருக்குக் கொடுக்கிறேனோ, அவனே” என்றார். பின்பு அந்த அப்பத் துண்டைத் தோய்த்து, சீமோனின் மகனான யூதாஸ் ஸ்காரியோத்துக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.
27 and it was then, after he had received it, that Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, ‘Do at once what you are going to do.’
யூதாஸ் அந்த அப்பத் துண்டை வாங்கிப் புசித்தான். பிறகு சாத்தான் அவனுக்குள்ளே புகுந்தான். இயேசு அவனிடம், “நீ செய்யப் போகிறதை விரைவாய்ச் செய்” என்றார்.
28 But no one at the table understood why he said this to Judas.
ஆனால் இயேசு ஏன் இப்படி அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார் என்று சாப்பாட்டுப் பந்தியிலிருந்த ஒருவருக்கும் விளங்கவில்லை.
29 Some thought that, as Judas kept the purse, Jesus meant that he was to buy some things needed for the Festival, or to give something to the poor.
யூதாஸ் பணத்துக்குப் பொறுப்பாயிருந்தபடியால், பண்டிகைக்குத் தேவையானதை வாங்கும்படியோ, அல்லது ஏழைகளுக்கு எதையாவது கொடுக்கும்படியோ இயேசு அவனுக்குச் சொல்கிறார் என்று சிலர் நினைத்தார்கள்.
30 After taking the piece of bread, Judas went out immediately; and it was night.
அப்பத்தை வாங்கிக்கொண்டதும் யூதாஸ் புறப்பட்டுப் போனான். அப்பொழுது இரவு நேரமாயிருந்தது.
31 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been exalted, and God has been exalted through him;
யூதாஸ் போனபின்பு இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “இப்பொழுது மானிடமகனாகிய நான் மகிமைப்படுகிறேன்; இறைவனும் என்னில் மகிமைப்படுகிறார்.
32 and God will exalt him with himself – yes, he will exalt him forthwith.
இறைவன் என்னில் மகிமைப்பட்டால், மானிடமகனாகிய என்னை இறைவனும் தம்மிலே மகிமைப்படுத்துவார்; சீக்கிரமாய் என்னை மகிமைப்படுத்துவார்.
33 My children, I am to be with you but a little while longer. You will look for me; and what I said to the people – “You cannot come where I am going” – I now say to you.
“பிள்ளைகளே, இன்னும் சிறிது காலமே நான் உங்களுடன் இருப்பேன். நீங்கள் என்னைத் தேடுவீர்கள், ஆனால் நான் போகிற இடத்துக்கு உங்களால் வரமுடியாது; இதை நான் யூதத்தலைவர்களுக்குச் சொன்னேன். இப்போது உங்களுக்கும் சொல்கிறேன்.”
34 I give you a new commandment – love one another; love one another as I have loved you.
நான் உங்களுக்கு ஒரு புதிய கட்டளையைக் கொடுக்கிறேன்: “ஒருவரில் ஒருவர் அன்பாயிருங்கள். நான் உங்களில் அன்பாயிருந்ததுபோல, நீங்களும் ஒருவரில் ஒருவர் அன்பாயிருக்கவேண்டும்.
35 It is by this that everyone will recognise you as my disciples – by your loving one another.’
நீங்கள் இப்படி ஒருவரில் ஒருவர் அன்பாயிருந்தால், நீங்கள் என்னுடைய சீடர்கள் என்று எல்லோரும் அறிந்துகொள்வார்கள்” என்றார்.
36 ‘Where are you going, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I am going where you cannot now follow me,’ answered Jesus, ‘but you will follow me later.’
அப்பொழுது சீமோன் பேதுரு அவரிடம், “ஆண்டவரே நீர் எங்கே போகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டான். இயேசு அதற்கு மறுமொழியாக, “நான் போகிற இடத்துக்கு என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துவர உன்னால் இப்போது முடியாது. பிறகு என்னைப் பின்தொடர்வாய்” என்றார்.
37 ‘Why cannot I follow you now, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I will lay down my life for you.’
அப்பொழுது பேதுரு, “ஆண்டவரே, ஏன் என்னால் இப்போது வரமுடியாது? நான் உமக்காக என் உயிரையும் கொடுப்பேன்” என்றான்.
38 ‘Will you lay down your life for me?’ replied Jesus. ‘In truth I tell you, the cock will not crow until you have disowned me three times.
அதற்கு இயேசு, “உண்மையிலேயே நீ எனக்காக உன் உயிரைக் கொடுப்பாயோ? மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், சேவல் கூவுகிறதற்கு முன்னே நீ என்னை மூன்றுமுறை மறுதலிப்பாய்” என்றார்.
