Colossians 2
1 I want you to know in how great a struggle I am engaged for you and for Christ’s people at Laodicea, and for all who have not yet seen me;
Vả, tôi muốn anh em biết dường nào tôi hết sức chiến tranh cho anh em, cho những người ở Lao-đi-xê, và cho những kẻ không thấy mặt tôi về phần xác,
2 in the hope that they, being bound to one another by love, and keeping in view the full blessedness of a firm conviction, may be encouraged to strive for a perfect knowledge of God’s hidden truth,
hầu cho lòng những kẻ ấy được yên ủi, và lấy sự yêu thương mà liên hiệp, đặng có nhiều sự thông biết đầy dẫy chắc chắn, đến nỗi có thể hiểu sự mầu nhiệm của Đức Chúa Trời, tức là Đấng Christ,
3 even Christ himself, in whom all treasures of wisdom and knowledge lie hidden.
mà trong Ngài đã giấu kín mọi sự quí báu về khôn ngoan thông sáng.
4 I say this to prevent anyone from deceiving you by plausible arguments.
Tôi nói như vậy, hầu cho chẳng ai lấy lời dỗ dành mà lừa dối anh em.
5 It is true that I am not with you in person, but I am with you in spirit, and am glad to see the good order and the unbroken front resulting from your faith in Christ.
Vì dẫu thân tôi xa cách, nhưng tâm thần tôi vẫn ở cùng anh em, thấy trong anh em có thứ tự hẳn hoi và đức tin vững vàng đến Đấng Christ, thì tôi mừng rỡ lắm.
6 Since, therefore, you have received Jesus, the Christ, as your Lord, live your lives in union with him –
Anh em đã nhận Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ thể nào, thì hãy bước đi trong Ngài thể ấy;
7 rooted in him, building up your characters through union with him, growing stronger through your faith, as you were taught, overflowing with faith and thanksgiving.
hãy châm rễ và lập nền trong Ngài, lấy đức tin làm cho bền vững, tùy theo anh em đã được dạy dỗ, và hãy dư dật trong sự cảm tạ.
8 Take care that there is not someone who will carry you away by his “philosophy” – a hollow sham! – following, as it does, mere human traditions, and dealing with puerile questions of this world, and not with Christ.
Hãy giữ chừng, kẻo có ai lấy triết học và lời hư không, theo lời truyền khẩu của loài người, sơ học của thế gian, không theo Đấng Christ, mà bắt anh em phục chăng.
9 For in Christ the Godhead in all its fulness dwells incarnate;
Vì sự đầy dẫy của bản tánh Đức Chúa Trời thảy đều ở trong Đấng ấy như có hình.
10 and, by your union with him, you also are filled with it. He is the head of all archangels and powers of heaven.
Anh em lại nhờ Ngài mà có được đầy dẫy mọi sự, vì Ngài là đầu của mọi quyền cai trị và mọi thế lực.
11 By your union with him you received a circumcision that was not performed by human hands, when you threw off the tyranny of the earthly body, and received the circumcision of the Christ.
Anh em cũng chịu cắt bì trong Ngài, không phải phép cắt bì bởi tay người ta làm ra, nhưng là phép cắt bì của Đấng Christ, là lột bỏ tánh xác thịt của chúng ta.
12 For in baptism you were buried with Christ; and in baptism you were also raised to life with him, through your faith in the omnipotence of God, who raised him from the dead.
Anh em đã bởi phép báp-tem được chôn với Ngài, thì cũng được sống lại với Ngài bởi đức tin trong quyền phép Đức Chúa Trời, là Đấng đã khiến Ngài từ kẻ chết sống lại.
13 And to you, who once were dead, by reason of your sins and your uncircumcised nature – to you God gave life in giving life to Christ! He pardoned all our sins!
Khi anh em đã chết bởi tội lỗi mình và sự xác thịt mình không chịu cắt bì, thì Đức Chúa Trời đã khiến anh em sống lại với Đấng Christ, vì đã tha thứ hết mọi tội chúng ta:
14 He canceled the bond which stood against us – the bond that consisted of ordinances – and which was directly hostile to us! He has taken it out of our way by nailing it to the cross!
Ngài đã xóa tờ khế lập nghịch cùng chúng ta, các điều khoản trái với chúng ta nữa, cùng phá hủy tờ khế đó mà đóng đinh trên cây thập tự;
15 He rid himself of all the powers of evil, and held them up to open contempt, when he celebrated his triumph over them on the cross!
Ngài đã truất bỏ các quyền cai trị cùng các thế lực, dùng thập tự giá chiến thắng chúng nó, và nộp ra tỏ tường giữa thiên hạ.
16 Do not, then, allow anyone to take you to task on questions of eating or drinking, or in the matter of annual or monthly or weekly festivals.
Vì vậy, chớ có ai đoán xét anh em về của ăn uống, hoặc ngày lễ, hoặc ngày mặt trăng mới, hoặc ngày Sa-bát,
17 These things are only the shadow of what is to come; the substance is in the Christ.
ấy đều chỉ là bóng của các việc sẽ tới, còn hình thì ở trong Đấng Christ.
18 Do not let anyone defraud you of the reality by affecting delight in so-called “humility” and angel-worship. Such a person busies themselves with their visions, and without reason are rendered conceited by their merely human intellect.
Chớ để cho những kẻ kia cướp lấy phần thưởng chạy thi, là kẻ giả đò khiêm nhượng mà muốn thờ lạy các thiên sứ. Họ theo những sự mình xem thấy, và bởi tình xác thịt nổi lòng kiêu ngạo vô ích,
19 They fail to maintain union with the head, to whom it is due that the whole body, nourished and knit together by the contact and connexion of every part, grows with a divine growth.
không liên lạc với đầu, là nhờ đầu đó mà cả thân thể xếp đặt kết hiệp bởi các lắt léo, và được sự sanh trưởng từ Đức Chúa Trời đến.
20 Since, with Christ, you became dead to the puerile teaching of this world, why do you submit, as if you still belonged to the world,
Ví bằng anh em chết với Đấng Christ về sự sơ học của thế gian, thì làm sao lại để cho những thể lệ nầy ép buột mình, như anh em còn sống trong thế gian:
21 to such ordinances as “Do not handle, or taste, or touch”?
Chớ lấy, chớ nếm, chớ rờ?
22 For all the things referred to in them cease to exist when used. You are following mere human directions and instructions.
Cả sự đó hễ dùng đến thì hư nát, theo qui tắc và đạo lý loài người,
23 Such prohibitions appear reasonable where there is a desire for self-imposed service, and so-called “humility,” and harsh treatment of the body, but are of no real value against the indulgence of our earthly nature.
dầu bề ngoài có vẻ khôn ngoan, là bởi thờ lạy theo ý riêng, cách khiêm nhượng và khắc khổ thân thể mình; nhưng không ích gì để chống cự lòng dục của xác thịt.
