Acts 26

1 Turning to Paul, Agrippa said, ‘You are at liberty to speak for yourself.’ Then Paul stretched out his hand and began his defence.

அப்பொழுது அகிரிப்பா பவுலிடம், “உன் வழக்கை எடுத்துரைக்க உனக்கு அனுமதி வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது” என்றான். எனவே பவுல் தனது கையினால் சைகை காட்டி தனது சார்பாகப் பேசத் தொடங்கினான்:

2 ‘I have been congratulating myself, King Agrippa,’ he said, ‘that it is before you that I have to make my defence today, with regard to all the charges brought against me by my own people,

“அகிரிப்பா அரசனே, யூதருடைய குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் எதிராக, நான் எனது சார்பாக பேசும்படி, இன்று உமக்கு முன்பாக நிற்பது, ஒரு வாய்ப்பு என கருதுகிறேன்.

3 especially as you are so well-versed in all the customs and questions of the Jewish world. I beg you therefore to give me a patient hearing.

ஏனெனில், யூதருடைய எல்லா முறைகளைக் குறித்தும், கருத்து முரண்பாடுகளைக் குறித்தும், நீர் நன்றாய் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர். எனவே, நான் சொல்வதைப் பொறுமையாகக் கேட்கும்படி உம்மைக் கெஞ்சிக்கேட்கிறேன்.

4 My life, then, from youth upwards, was passed, from the very first, among my own nation, and in Jerusalem, and is within the knowledge of all Jews;

“நான் சிறுபிள்ளையாக இருந்ததிலிருந்து, என் வாழ்க்கையின் ஆரம்பத்தில் என் நாட்டிலும், பின்பு எருசலேமிலும் நான் எப்படி வாழ்ந்தேன் என்பதை எல்லா யூதரும் அறிவார்கள்.

5 and they have always known – if they choose to give evidence – that, in accordance with the very strictest form of our religion, I lived a true Pharisee.

நீண்டகாலமாக அவர்கள் என்னை அறிந்திருக்கிறார்கள். அதனால் நான் எப்படி எங்கள் சமயத்திலுள்ள கண்டிப்பான பிரிவின்படி, ஒரு பரிசேயனாக வாழ்ந்தேன் என்பதை, அவர்கள் விரும்பினால் சாட்சியாகச் சொல்லலாம்.

6 Even now, it is because of my hope in the promise given by God to our ancestors that I stand here on my trial –

எங்கள் தந்தையருக்கு இறைவன் வாக்குத்தத்தம் பண்ணியதில், நான் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கை காரணமாகவே, இன்று நான் இங்கே விசாரணை செய்யப்படுகிறேன்.

7 A promise which our twelve tribes, by earnest service night and day, hope to see fulfilled. It is for this hope, your Majesty, that I am accused – and by Jews themselves!

இந்த வாக்குத்தத்தம் நிறைவேறுவதைக் காணும் எதிர்பார்ப்புடனேயே, எங்கள் பன்னிரண்டு கோத்திரத்தினரும், இரவும் பகலுமாய் இறைவனுக்கு ஆர்வத்துடன் பணிசெய்கிறார்கள். அரசே, அந்த எதிர்பார்ப்பின் காரணமாகவே, யூதர்கள் என்மேல் குற்றம் சுமத்துகிறார்கள்.

8 Why do you all hold it incredible that God should raise the dead?

இறந்தவர்களை இறைவன் உயிருடன் எழுப்புவது நம்பமுடியாத செயல் என்று நீங்கள் கருதுவது ஏன்?

9 I myself, it is true, once thought it my duty to oppose in every way the name of Jesus of Nazareth;

“நாசரேத்தைச் சேர்ந்த இயேசுவின் பெயருக்கு எதிராக இயன்றதையெல்லாம் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று நானும் எண்ணியிருந்தேன்.

10 and I actually did so at Jerusalem. Acting on the authority of the chief priests, I myself threw many of the people of Christ into prison, and, when it was proposed to put them to death, I gave my vote for it.

அதையே நான் எருசலேமில் செய்தேன். தலைமை ஆசாரியரின் அதிகாரத்தைப் பெற்று, பரிசுத்தவான்களில் பலரைச் சிறையில் அடைத்தேன்; அவர்கள் கொலைசெய்யப்படும்போது, அவர்களுக்கு எதிராக நானும் என் ஒப்புதலை வழங்கியிருந்தேன்.

11 Time after time, in every synagogue, I tried by punishments to force them to blaspheme. So frantic was I against them, that I pursued them even to towns beyond our borders.

பலமுறை அவர்களைத் தண்டனைக்கு உட்படுத்தும்படி, ஒவ்வொரு ஜெப ஆலயத்திற்கும் போனேன். இறைவனை அவமதித்துப் பேசும்படி அவர்களை வற்புறுத்தினேன். நான் அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகக் கடுங்கோபம் கொண்டிருந்ததால், அவர்களைத் துன்புறுத்தும்படி வெளிநாட்டின் பட்டணங்களுக்கும் போனேன்.

12 It was while I was traveling to Damascus on an errand of this kind, entrusted with full powers by the chief priests,

“இப்படியாக ஒருமுறை நான் தலைமை ஆசாரியரின் அதிகாரத்துடனும், ஆணையுடனும் தமஸ்கு பட்டணத்திற்கு போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தேன்.

13 that at midday, your Majesty, I saw right in my path, coming from the heavens, a light brighter than the glare of the sun, which shone all round me and those traveling with me.

அரசே, நான் போகும் வழியில், மத்தியான வேளையில், வானத்திலிருந்து ஒரு ஒளியைக் கண்டேன். அது சூரியனைவிடப் பிரகாசமுடையதாய், என்னையும் என்னுடன் வந்தவர்களையும் சுற்றிப் பிரகாசித்தது.

14 We all fell to the ground, and then I heard a voice saying to me in Hebrew – “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? By kicking against the goad you are punishing yourself.”

நாங்கள் அனைவரும் தரையில் விழுந்தோம். ஒரு குரல் எபிரெய மொழியில் என்னுடன் பேசுவதைக் கேட்டேன். அது, ‘சவுலே, சவுலே, நீ ஏன் என்னைத் துன்பப்படுத்துகிறாய்? முட்களை உதைப்பது உனக்குக் கடினமே’ என்றது.

15 “Who are you, Lord?” I asked. And the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting;

“அப்பொழுது நான், ‘ஆண்டவரே, நீர் யார்?’ என்று கேட்டேன். “‘ஆண்டவர் அதற்கு மறுமொழியாக, நான் இயேசு, நீ என்னையே துன்புறுத்துகிறாய்.

16 but get up and stand upright; for I have appeared to you in order to appoint you a servant and a witness of those revelations of me which you have already had, and of those in which I will yet appear to you,

இப்பொழுது நீ எழுந்து காலூன்றி நில். நான் உன்னை என் ஊழியனாகவும், சாட்சியாகவும் நியமிப்பதற்கே, உனக்குக் காட்சியளித்தேன். என்னைக் கண்டது குறித்தும், நான் உனக்குக் காண்பிக்கப் போகிறவற்றிற்கும், நீ சாட்சியாய் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

17 since I am choosing you out from your own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,

நான் உன்னை உன் சொந்த மக்களிடமிருந்தும், யூதரல்லாதவர்களிடமிருந்தும் காப்பாற்றுவேன்.

18 to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God; so that they may receive pardon for their sins, and a place among those who have become God’s people, by faith in me.”

நீ அவர்களை இருளிலிருந்து வெளிச்சத்திற்கும், சாத்தானின் அதிகாரத்திலிருந்து இறைவனிடத்திற்கும் திரும்பும்படி அவர்களுடைய கண்களைத் திறக்கவும், அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய பாவமன்னிப்பைப் பெற்று, என்மேலுள்ள விசுவாசத்தினால் பரிசுத்தமாக்கப்பட்டவர்களுடன் இடத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளும்படியாகவே, நான் உன்னை அனுப்புகிறேன்’ என்றார்.

19 After that, King Agrippa, I did not fail to obey the heavenly vision;

“அகிரிப்பா அரசே, ஆகவே அந்த பரலோக தரிசனத்திற்கு நான் கீழ்ப்படியாதவனாய் இருக்கவில்லை.

20 on the contrary, first to those at Damascus and Jerusalem, and then through the whole of Judea, and to the Gentiles as well, I began to preach repentance and conversion to God, and a life befitting that repentance.

எனவே முதலாவது தமஸ்குவில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கும், பின்பு எருசலேமிலும் முழு யூதேயாவில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கும், யூதரல்லாதவர்களுக்கும்கூட நான் பிரசங்கித்தேன். அவர்கள் மனந்திரும்பி இறைவனிடம் திரும்பவேண்டும் என்றும், தங்களுடைய மனந்திரும்புதலை அவர்கள் தங்கள் செயல்களினால் நிரூபிக்கவேண்டும் என்றும் அறிவித்தேன்.

21 This is why some men seized me in the Temple, and made attempts on my life.

இதனாலேயே யூதர்கள், ஆலய முற்றத்தில் இருந்த என்னைப் பிடித்துக் கொலைசெய்ய முயற்சித்தார்கள்.

22 However I have received help from God to this very day, and so stand here, and bear my testimony to high and low alike – without adding a word to what the prophets, as well as Moses, declared should happen –

ஆனால், இன்றுவரை, நான் இறைவனுடைய உதவியைப் பெற்றவனாய், இங்கே நின்று சிறியவர்கள் பெரியவர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் சாட்சி கொடுக்கிறேன். இறைவாக்கினரும், மோசேயும் என்ன நடக்கும் என்று சொன்னார்களோ, அதையேதான் நானும் சொல்கிறேன். வேறு எதையும் நான் சொல்லவில்லை.

23 That the Christ must suffer, and that, by rising from the dead, he was destined to be the first to bring news of light, not only to our nation, but also to the Gentiles.’

கிறிஸ்து வேதனைகள் அனுபவித்து, பின் இறந்தவர்களிலிருந்து முதலாவதாய் எழுந்திருப்பவராய், தனது சொந்த மக்களுக்கும், யூதரல்லாதவர்களுக்கும் ஒளியைப் பிரசித்தப்படுத்துவார் என்றே அவர்களும் சொன்னார்கள்” என்றார்.

24 While Paul was making this defence, Festus called out loudly, ‘You are mad, Paul; your great learning is driving you mad.’

அந்நேரத்தில் பெஸ்து குறுக்கிட்டு பவுலிடம், “பவுலே, உனக்குப் பைத்தியம் பிடித்துவிட்டது!” உனது அதிக படிப்பினால் “உனக்கு மூளை குழம்பிவிட்டது” என்று சத்தமிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

25 ‘I am not mad, your Excellency,’ he replied. ‘On the contrary, the statements that I am making are true and sober.

அதற்குப் பவுல், “மதிப்புக்குரிய பெஸ்து அவர்களே, எனக்கு மூளை குழம்பவில்லை. நான் சொல்வது உண்மையும், நியாயமானதுமாய் இருக்கிறது.

26 Indeed, the king knows about these matters, so I speak before him without constraint. I am sure that there is nothing whatever of what I have been telling him that has escaped his attention; for all this has not been done in a corner.

அரசர் இவற்றையெல்லாம் அறிந்திருக்கிறார். அதனால்தான் நான் அவருடன் தாராளமாய் பேசுகிறேன். நான் பேசும் இவை ஒன்றும் அவருக்குத் தெரியாமல் நடந்தவை அல்ல என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும். ஏனெனில், இவை மூலைமுடுக்கில் நடந்தவை அல்ல.

27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.’

அகிரிப்பா அரசே, நீர் இறைவாக்கினரை நம்புகிறீரா? நீர் நம்புகிறீர் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றான்.

28 But Agrippa said to Paul, ‘You are soon trying to make a Christian of me!’

அப்பொழுது அகிரிப்பா பவுலிடம், “என்ன! இந்தக் கொஞ்ச நேரத்திலே, நீ என்னைக் கிறிஸ்துவை பின்பற்றுகிறவனாக்க நினைக்கிறாயா?” என்றான்.

29 ‘Whether it is soon or late,’ answered Paul, ‘I pray to God that not only you, but all who are listening to me, might today become just what I am myself – except for these chains!’

அதற்குப் பவுல், “கொஞ்ச நேரமோ, அதிக நேரமோ, நீர் மட்டுமல்ல, இன்று நான் சொல்வதைக் கேட்கும் அனைவரும், என்னைப்போல் ஆகவேண்டும்; ஆனால் இவ்விதம் சங்கிலிகளால் மட்டும் கட்டப்படக்கூடாது என்றே இறைவனிடம் மன்றாடுகிறேன்” என்றான்.

30 Then the king rose, with the Governor and Bernice and those who had been sitting with them,

அரசன் தன் இடத்தைவிட்டு எழுந்தான். அவனுடன் ஆளுநரும், பெர்னிக்கேயாளும், அவர்களுடன் இருந்தவர்களுங்கூட இருக்கைகளை விட்டு எழுந்தார்கள்.

31 and, after retiring, discussed the case among themselves. ‘There is nothing,’ they said, ‘deserving death or imprisonment in this man’s conduct’;

அவர்கள் அவ்விடத்தை விட்டுப்போகையில் ஒருவரோடொருவர், “இவன் மரணதண்டனையையோ, சிறைத் தண்டனையையோ பெறுவதற்கான எதையும் செய்யவில்லை” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

32 and, speaking to Festus, Agrippa added, ‘The man might have been discharged, if he had not appealed to the Emperor.’

அப்பொழுது அகிரிப்பா பெஸ்துவிடம், “இவன் ரோமப் பேரரசனுக்கு மேல்முறையீடு செய்யாமல் இருந்திருந்தால், இவனை விடுவித்திருக்கலாம்” என்றான்.
