1 Thessalonians 5
1 But as to the times and the moments, there is no need, friends, for anyone to write to you.
Mas irmãos, acerca dos tempos e das estações, não necessitais de que eu vos escreva;
2 You yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come just as a thief comes in the night.
pois vós mesmos bem sabeis que o dia do Senhor virá como um ladrão de noite.
3 When people are saying “All is quiet and safe,” it is then that, like birth pains on a pregnant woman, ruin comes suddenly upon them, and there will be no escape!
Quando disserem: “Paz e segurança”, então virá sobre eles repentina destruição, como as dores de parto da grávida, e de maneira nenhuma escaparão.
4 You, however, friends, are not in darkness, that the daylight should take you by surprise as if you were thieves.
Mas vós, irmãos, não estais em trevas, para que aquele dia vos tome de surpresa como um ladrão.
5 For you all are children of light and children of the day. We have nothing to do with night, or darkness.
Todos vós sois filhos da luz e filhos do dia; não somos da noite nem das trevas.
6 Therefore let us not sleep as others do. No, let us be watchful and self-controlled.
Portanto, não durmamos, como os outros; em vez disso, vigiemos e sejamos sóbrios.
7 It is at night that people sleep, and at night that drunkards get drunk.
Pois os que dormem, dormem de noite; e os que ficam bêbados embebedam-se de noite.
8 But let us, who belong to the day, control ourselves, and put on faith and love as a breast plate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
Mas nós, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios, e nos vistamos da couraça da fé e do amor, e do capacete da esperança da salvação.
9 For God destined us, not for wrath, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us,
Porque Deus não nos destinou para a ira, mas, sim, para obtermos a salvação, por meio do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
10 that, whether we are still watching or have fallen asleep, we may live with him.
que morreu por nós, a fim de que, se estivermos vigiando ou dormindo, nós vivamos juntamente com ele.
11 Therefore encourage one another, and try to build up one another’s characters, as indeed you are doing.
Portanto exortai-vos uns aos outros, e edificai-vos uns aos outros, como já fazeis.
12 We beg you, friends, to value those who toil among you, and are your leaders in the Lord’s service, and give you counsel.
Irmãos, nós vos rogamos que reconheçais os que trabalham entre vós, e que lideram sobre vós no Senhor, e vos advertem;
13 Hold them in the very greatest esteem and affection for the sake of their work. Live at peace with one another.
e os estimai muito com amor, por causa do trabalho deles. Tende paz entre vós.
14 We entreat you also, friends – warn the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, give a helping hand to the weak, and be patient with everyone.
Rogamo-vos também, irmãos, que advirtais os desordeiros, consoleis os de pouco ânimo, apoieis aos fracos, e tenhais paciência com todos.
15 Take care that none of you ever pays back wrong for wrong, but always follow the kindest course with one another and with everyone.
Tende cuidado para que ninguém retribua o mal com o mal, mas sempre segui o bem, tanto uns com os outros, como com todos.
16 Always be joyful;
Alegrai-vos sempre.
17 never cease to pray;
Orai sem cessar.
18 under all circumstances give thanks to God. For this is his will for you as made known in Christ Jesus.
Agradecei em tudo, pois essa é a vontade de Deus em Cristo Jesus para vós mesmos.
19 Do not quench the Spirit;
Não apagueis o Espírito.
20 do not make light of preaching.
Não desprezeis as profecias.
21 Bring everything to the test; cling to what is good;
Examinai tudo, e mantende o que é bom.
22 shun every form of evil.
Não haja entre vós qualquer forma de mal.
23 May God himself, the giver of peace, make you altogether holy; and may your spirits, souls, and bodies be kept altogether faultless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
E o próprio Deus da paz vos santifique em tudo; e que todo o vosso espírito, alma e corpo sejam preservados irrepreensíveis na vinda do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
24 He who calls you will not fail you; he will complete his work.
Fiel é aquele que vos chama, e ele também [o] fará.
25 Friends, pray for us.
Irmãos, orai por nós.
26 Greet all the Lord’s followers with a sacred kiss.
Saudai a todos os irmãos com beijo santo.
27 I order you in the Lord’s name to have this letter read to all the brethren.
Eu vos mando pelo Senhor que esta carta seja lida a todos os irmãos.
28 May the blessing of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
A graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo [seja] convosco.
