1 Peter 4
1 Since, then, Christ suffered in body, arm yourselves with the same resolve as he; for he who has suffered in body has ceased to sin,
Vậy, vì Đấng Christ đã chịu khổ trong xác thịt, thì anh em cũng phải lấy sự đó làm giáp trụ, vì người nào đã chịu khổ trong xác thịt, thì đã dứt khỏi tội lỗi,
2 and so will live the rest of his earthly life guided, not by human passions, but by the will of God.
hầu cho còn sống trong xác thịt bao lâu thì chớ lại theo những sự người ta ưa thích, một phải theo ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời.
3 Surely in the past you have spent time enough living as the Gentiles delight to live. For your path has lain among scenes of debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness, revelry, hard-drinking, and profane idolatry.
Ngày trước cũng đã đủ làm theo ý muốn người ngoại đạo rồi, mà ăn ở theo tà tịch, tư dục, say rượu, ăn uống quá độ, chơi bời, và thờ hình tượng đáng gớm ghiếc.
4 And, because you do not run to the same extremes of profligacy as others, they are astonished, and malign you.
Họ thấy anh em chẳng cùng họ theo sự dâm dật bậy bạ ấy, thì họ lấy làm lạ và gièm chê.
5 But they will have to answer for their conduct to him who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.
Nhưng họ sẽ khai trình với Đấng đã sẵn sàng xét đoán kẻ sống và kẻ chết.
6 For that was why the good news was told to the dead also – that, after they have been judged in the body, as people are judged, they might live in the spirit, as God lives.
Vì ấy bởi điều đó mà Tin Lành cũng đã giảng ra cho kẻ chết, hầu cho sau khi chịu xét đoán theo loài người về phần xác, thì họ được sống theo Đức Chúa Trời về phần hồn.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore exercise self-restraint and be calm, so that you may be able to pray.
Sự cuối cùng của muôn vật đã gần; vậy hãy khôn ngoan tỉnh thức mà cầu nguyện.
8 Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for “Love throws a veil over countless sins.”
Nhất là trong vòng anh em phải có lòng yêu thương sốt sắng; vì sự yêu thương che đậy vô số tội lỗi.
9 Never grudge hospitality to one another.
Người nầy người khác phải tiếp đãi nhau, chớ có cằn rằn.
10 Whatever the gift that each has received, use it in the service of others, as good stewards of the varied bounty of God.
Mỗi người trong anh em hãy lấy ơn mình đã được mà giúp lẫn nhau, khác nào người quản lý trung tín giữ các thứ ơn của Đức Chúa Trời.
11 When anyone speaks, they should speak as one who is delivering the oracles of God. When anyone is endeavouring to serve others, they should do so in reliance on the strength which God supplies; so that in everything God may be honoured through Jesus Christ – to whom be ascribed all honour and might for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
Ví bằng có người giảng luận, thì hãy giảng như rao lời sấm truyền của Đức Chúa Trời; nếu có kẻ làm chức gì, thì hãy làm như nhờ sức Đức Chúa Trời ban, hầu cho Đức Chúa Trời được sáng danh trong mọi sự bởi Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ; là Đấng được sự vinh hiển quyền phép đời đời vô cùng. 12 Dear friends, do not be astonished at the trial of fire that you are passing through, to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Hỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, khi anh em bị trong lò lửa thử thách, chớ lấy làm lạ như mình gặp một việc khác thường.
13 No, the more you share the sufferings of the Christ, the more may you rejoice, that, when the time comes for the manifestation of his glory, you may rejoice and exult.
Nhưng anh em có phần trong sự thương khó của Đấng Christ bao nhiêu, thì hãy vui mừng bấy nhiêu, hầu cho đến ngày vinh hiển của Ngài hiện ra, thì anh em cũng được vui mừng nhảy nhót.
14 If you are insulted for bearing the name of Christ, count yourselves blessed; because the divine glory and the Spirit of God are resting on you.
Ví bằng anh em vì cớ danh Đấng Christ chịu sỉ nhục, thì anh em có phước; vì sự vinh hiển và Thánh Linh của Đức Chúa Trời đậu trên anh em.
15 I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.
Trong anh em chớ có ai chịu khổ như kẻ giết người, như kẻ trộm cướp, như kẻ hung ác, như kẻ thày lay việc người khác.
16 But, if someone suffers as a Christian, they should not be ashamed of it; they should bring honour to God even though they bear that name.
Nhưng nếu có ai vì làm tín đồ Đấng Christ mà chịu khổ, thì đừng hổ thẹn; thà hãy vì danh ấy ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời là hơn.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the house of God; and, if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s good news?
Vì thời kỳ đã đến, là khi sự phán xét sẽ khởi từ nhà Đức Chúa Trời; vả, nếu khởi từ chúng ta, thì sự cuối cùng của những kẻ chẳng vâng theo Tin Lành Đức Chúa Trời sẽ ra thế nào?
18 If “a good person is saved only with difficulty, what will become of the godless and the sinful?”
Lại nếu người công bình còn khó được rỗi, thì những kẻ nghịch đạo và có tội sẽ trở nên thế nào?
19 Therefore, I say, let those who suffer, because God wills it so, commit their lives into the hands of a faithful Creator, and persevere in doing right.
Vậy những kẻ chịu khổ theo ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời, hãy cứ làm lành mà phó linh hồn mình cho Đấng Tạo hóa thành tín.
