1 Corinthians 8
1 With reference to food that has been offered in sacrifice to idols – We are aware that all of us have knowledge! Knowledge breeds conceit, while love builds up character.
Ní ìsinsin yìí, nípa tí oúnjẹ ti a fi rú ẹbọ sí òrìṣà, a mọ̀ pé gbogbo wa ni a ní ìmọ̀. Imọ̀ a máa fẹ́ mu ní gbéraga, ṣùgbọ́n ìfẹ́ ní gbé ni ró.
2 If someone thinks that they know anything, they have not yet reached that knowledge which they ought to have reached.
Bí ẹnikẹ́ni bá ró pé òun mọ ohun kan, kò tí ì mọ̀ bí ó ti yẹ kí ó mọ̀.
3 On the other hand, if a person loves God, they are known by God.
Ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó fẹ́ràn Ọlọ́run nítòótọ́, òun ni ẹni tí Ọlọ́run mọ.
4 With reference, then, to eating food that has been offered to idols – we are aware that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Nítorí náà, ǹjẹ́ ó yẹ kí a jẹ àwọn oúnjẹ ti a fi rú ẹbọ sí àwọn òrìṣà bí? Láìṣe àní àní, gbogbo wá mọ̀ pé àwọn ère òrìṣà kì í ṣe Ọlọ́run rárá, ohun asán ni wọn ni ayé. A sì mọ̀ dájúdájú pé Ọlọ́run kan ṣoṣo ní ń bẹ, kò sì ṣí ọlọ́run mìíràn bí kò ṣe ọ̀kan ṣoṣo.
5 Even supposing that there are so-called “gods” either in heaven or on earth – and there are many such “gods” and “lords” –
Bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé, à ní ọ̀pọ̀ ọlọ́run kéékèèké mìíràn ní ọ̀run àti ní ayé (gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀pọ̀ “ọlọ́run” ṣe wa náà ní ọ̀pọ̀ “olúwa” wa).
6 Yet for us there is only one God, the Father, from whom all things come (and for him we live), and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come (and through him we live).
Ṣùgbọ́n fún àwa Ọlọ́run kan ní ó wa, Baba, lọ́wọ́ ẹni tí ó dá ohun gbogbo, àti ti ẹni tí gbogbo wa í ṣe, àti Olúwa kan ṣoṣo Jesu Kristi, nípasẹ̀ ẹni tí ohun gbogbo wà, àti àwa nípasẹ̀ rẹ̀.
7 Still, it is not everyone that has this knowledge. Some people, because of their association with idols, continued down to the present time, eat the food as food offered to an idol; and their consciences, while still weak, are dulled.
Ṣùgbọ́n kì í ṣe gbogbo ènìyàn lo mọ èyí. Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ẹlòmíràn tí ó ti ń bọ̀rìṣà lọ́jọ́ tó ti pẹ́ títí di ìsinsin yìí jẹ ẹ́ bí ohun tí a fi rú ẹbọ sí òrìṣà, àti ẹ̀rí ọkàn wọn tí ó ṣe àìlera sì di aláìmọ́.
8 What we eat, however, will not bring us nearer to God. We lose nothing by not eating this food, and we gain nothing by eating it.
Ṣùgbọ́n oúnjẹ kò mú wa súnmọ́ Ọlọ́run, nítorí pé kì í ṣe bí àwa bá jẹun ni àwa burú jùlọ tàbí nígbà tí a kò jẹ ni àwa dára jùlọ.
9 But take care that this right of yours does not become in any way a stumbling-block to the weak.
Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ máa kíyèsi ara gidigidi nípa ìlò òmìnira yín kí ẹ má ba à mú kí àwọn arákùnrin mìíràn tí í ṣe onígbàgbọ́, tí ọkàn wọn ṣe aláìlera, ṣubú sínú ẹ̀ṣẹ̀.
10 For if someone should see you who possess this knowledge, feasting in an idol’s temple, will not their conscience, if they are weak, become so hardened that they, too, will eat food offered to idols?
Ẹ kíyèsára, nítorí bi ẹnìkan ba rí i ti ìwọ ti o ni ìmọ̀ bá jókòó ti oúnjẹ ní ilé òrìṣà, ǹjẹ́ òun kò ha ni mú ọkàn le, bi ẹ̀rí ọkàn rẹ̀ bá ṣe aláìlera, láti jẹ oúnjẹ tí a fi rú ẹbọ sí òrìṣà?
11 And so, through this knowledge of yours, the weak person is ruined – someone for whose sake Christ died!
Nítorí náà, nípa ìmọ̀ rẹ ni arákùnrin aláìlera náà yóò ṣe ṣègbé, arákùnrin ẹni tí Kristi kú fún.
12 In this way, by sinning against your fellow followers of the Lord and injuring their consciences, while still weak, you sin against Christ.
Bí ẹ bá dẹ́ṣẹ̀ sí arákùnrin rẹ̀ tí ẹ sì ń pa ọkàn àìlera wọn lára, ẹ̀yìn ǹ dẹ́ṣẹ̀ sí Kristi jùlọ.
