< Psalms 116 >

1 I 'ahav ·affectionately love· Adonai, because he sh'ma ·hears obeys· my voice, and my cries for mercy.
Alleluia. I am well pleased, because the Lord will listen to the voice of my supplication.
2 Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
Because he has inclined his ear to me, therefore will I call upon him while I live.
3 The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol ·Place of the dead· got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)
The pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me: I found affliction and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)
4 Then I called on Adonai’s name: “Adonai, I beg you, deliver my soul.”
Then I called on the name of the Lord: O Lord, deliver my soul.
5 Adonai is gracious and righteous. Yes, our God is racham ·merciful love·.
The Lord is merciful and righteous; yes, our God has pity.
6 Adonai preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me.
The Lord preserves the simple: I was brought low, and he delivered me.
7 Teshuvah ·Completely return· to your rest, my soul, for Adonai has dealt bountifully with you.
Return to your rest, O my soul; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
For he has delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before Adonai in the land of the living.
I shall be well-pleasing before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 I believed, therefore I said, “I was greatly afflicted.”
Alleluia. I believed, therefore I have spoken: but I was greatly afflicted.
11 I said in my haste, “All men are liars.”
And I said in mine amazement, Every man is a liar.
12 What will I give to Adonai for all his benefits toward me?
What shall I render to the Lord for all the things wherein he has rewarded me?
13 I will take the cup of yishu'ah ·salvation·, and call on Adonai’s name.
I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows to Adonai, yes, in the presence of all his people.
I will pay my vows to the Lord, in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in Adonai’s sight is the death of his saints.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
16 Adonai, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your servant. You have freed me from my chains.
O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have burst by bonds asunder.
17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on Adonai’s name.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of praise, and will call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to Adonai, yes, in the presence of all his people,
I will pay my vows to the Lord, in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of Adonai’s house, in the middle of you, Jerusalem [City of peace]. Halleluyah ·praise Yah·!
in the courts of the Lord's house, in the midst of you, Jerusalem.
