Genesis 4
1 The man knew Eve [Life] his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain [Acquisition], and said, “I have gotten a man with Adonai’s help.”
Potem Adam obcował ze swoją żoną Ewą, a ta poczęła i urodziła Kaina. I powiedziała: Otrzymałam mężczyznę od PANA.
2 Again she gave birth, to Cain [Acquisition]’s brother Abel [Vanity, Mourning]. Abel [Vanity, Mourning] was a keeper of sheep, but Cain [Acquisition] was a tiller of the ground.
I urodziła jeszcze jego brata Abla. Abel był pasterzem owiec, a Kain był rolnikiem.
3 As time passed, Cain [Acquisition] brought an offering to Adonai from the fruit of the ground.
Z biegiem czasu zdarzyło się, że Kain przyniósł PANU ofiarę z plonów ziemi.
4 Abel [Vanity, Mourning] also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Adonai respected Abel [Vanity, Mourning] and his offering,
Także Abel przyniósł z pierworodnych swej trzody i z ich tłuszczu. A PAN wejrzał na Abla i jego ofiarę.
5 but he didn’t respect Cain [Acquisition] and his offering. Cain [Acquisition] was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.
Lecz na Kaina i jego ofiarę nie wejrzał. Kain rozgniewał się bardzo i spochmurniała jego twarz.
6 Adonai said to Cain [Acquisition], “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?
Wtedy PAN zapytał Kaina: Dlaczego się rozgniewałeś? Czemu spochmurniała twoja twarz?
7 If you do well, won’t it be lifted up? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.”
Jeśli będziesz dobrze czynił, czy nie zostaniesz wywyższony? A jeśli nie będziesz dobrze czynił, grzech leży u drzwi; a do ciebie [będzie] jego pragnienie, a ty będziesz nad nim panować.
8 Cain [Acquisition] said to Abel [Vanity, Mourning], his brother, “Let’s go into the field.” While they were in the field, Cain [Acquisition] rose up against Abel [Vanity, Mourning], his brother, and murdered him.
I Kain rozmawiał ze swoim bratem Ablem. A gdy byli na polu, Kain powstał przeciwko swemu bratu Ablowi i zabił go.
9 Adonai said to Cain [Acquisition], “Where is Abel [Vanity, Mourning], your brother?” He said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Wtedy PAN zapytał Kaina: Gdzie jest twój brat Abel? On odpowiedział: Nie wiem. Czy ja jestem stróżem mego brata?
10 Adonai said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.
[Bóg] zapytał: Cóż uczyniłeś? Głos krwi twego brata woła do mnie z ziemi.
11 Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
Teraz więc przeklęty będziesz na ziemi, która otworzyła swe usta, aby przyjąć krew twego brata [przelaną] przez twoją rękę.
12 From now on, when you till the ground, it won’t yield its strength to you. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth.”
Gdy będziesz uprawiał ziemię, nie da ci już swego plonu. Tułaczem i zbiegiem będziesz na ziemi.
13 Cain [Acquisition] said to Adonai, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.
Wtedy Kain powiedział do PANA: Zbyt ciężka jest moja kara, bym mógł ją znieść.
14 Behold, you have divorced and driven me out today from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. Whoever finds me will kill me.”
Oto wyganiasz mnie dziś z powierzchni ziemi, a przed twoją twarzą będę ukryty. Będę tułaczem i zbiegiem na ziemi, a stanie się [tak, że] ktokolwiek mnie spotka, zabije mnie.
15 Adonai said to him, “Therefore whoever slays Cain [Acquisition], vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” Adonai appointed a sign for Cain [Acquisition], so that anyone finding him would not strike him.
PAN mu odpowiedział: Zaprawdę, ktokolwiek zabije Kaina, poniesie siedmiokrotną zemstę. I nałożył PAN na Kaina piętno, aby nie zabił go nikt, kto by go spotkał.
16 Cain [Acquisition] left Adonai’s presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden [Delight].

17 Cain [Acquisition] knew his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Enoch. He built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
I Kain obcował ze swoją żoną, a ona poczęła i urodziła Henocha. Zbudował też miasto i nazwał je imieniem swego syna – Henoch.
18 To Enoch was born Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.
Henochowi urodził się Irad, a Irad spłodził Mechujaela, a Mechujael spłodził Matuszaela, a Matuszael spłodził Lameka.
19 Lamech took two wives: the name of the first one was Adah, and the name of the second one was Zillah.
I Lamek pojął sobie dwie żony. Imię jednej [było] Ada, a drugiej – Silla.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.
Ada urodziła Jabala, który był ojcem mieszkających w namiotach i pasterzy.
21 His brother’s name was Jubal, who was the father of all who handle the harp and pipe.
Jego brat [miał] na imię Jubal, a był on ojcem wszystkich grających na harfie i na flecie.
22 Zillah also gave birth to Tubal Cain [Acquisition], the forger of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron. Tubal Cain [Acquisition]’s sister was Naamah.
Silla urodziła Tubalkaina, [który był] rzemieślnikiem wszelkiej roboty od miedzi i żelaza. Siostrą Tubalkaina była Noema.
23 Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, sh'ma ·hear obey· my voice. You wives of Lamech, listen to my speech, for I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for bruising me.
I Lamek powiedział swym żonom, Adzie i Silli: Słuchajcie mego głosu, żony Lameka, posłuchajcie moich słów; zabiłem mężczyznę za zranienie mnie i młodzieńca za siniec.
24 If Cain [Acquisition] will be avenged seven times, truly Lamech seventy-seven times.”
Jeśli Kain ma być pomszczony siedem razy, to Lamek siedemdziesiąt siedem razy.
25 Adam [Human, Red earth] knew his wife again. She gave birth to a son, and named him Seth [Appointed], saying, “for God has given me another child instead of Abel [Vanity, Mourning], for Cain [Acquisition] killed him.”
I Adam znów obcował ze swoją żoną, a ona urodziła syna i nadała mu imię Set, [mówiąc]: Dał mi Bóg inne potomstwo za Abla, którego zabił Kain.
26 A son was also born to Seth [Appointed], and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on Adonai’s name.
Setowi też urodził się syn i nadał mu imię Enosz. Wtedy zaczęto wzywać imienia PANA.
