Romans 5
1 Therefore being accepted as righteous through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;
Ayant donc été justifiés par la foi, soyons en paix avec Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,
2 through whom also we have had admission into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory which God will confer.
par lequel nous avons aussi obtenu l'accès à cette grâce dans laquelle nous sommes établis; et nous nous enorgueillissons à cause de l'espérance de la gloire de Dieu,
3 And not only so, but we rejoice in afflictions also, knowing that affliction produceth endurance,
et non seulement à cause de cela, mais encore nous nous enorgueillissons des tribulations, sachant que la tribulation produit la patience,
4 and endurance proof [[of faith]], and proof [[of faith giveth]] hope;
et la patience le mérite, et le mérite l'espérance.
5 and hope will not disappoint us; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which hath been given to us.
Or l'espérance ne trompe pas, parce que l'amour de Dieu a été versé dans nos cœurs par l'Esprit saint qui nous a été donné,
6 For while we were yet without strength, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.
s'il est vrai que Christ, alors que nous étions encore faibles, est mort au moment voulu pour des impies.
7 Now hardly for a righteous man will one die; perhaps, however, for a benefactor one might even dare to die.
C'est à grand'peine, en effet, que quelqu'un mourra pour un juste, car il se peut bien faire que quelqu'un se décide à mourir pour l'homme de bien;
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
mais Il prouve Son amour envers nous, par ce fait-ci, que, lorsque nous étions encore pécheurs, Christ est mort pour nous;
9 Much more then, being now accepted as righteous through his blood, we shall be saved through him from the [[coming]] wrath.
à combien plus forte raison par conséquent, maintenant que nous avons été justifiés par son sang, serons-nous préservés par lui de la colère?
10 For if while enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more having been reconciled shall we be saved by his life;
Car, si, lorsque nous étions ennemis, nous avons été réconciliés avec Dieu par la mort de Son Fils, à combien plus forte raison, une fois que nous avons été réconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie!
11 and not this only, but also having joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
Non seulement nous le serons, mais ce sera encore en nous enorgueillissant en Dieu par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, par lequel nous avons maintenant obtenu la réconciliation.
12 So then as through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin death, and thus [[death]] came through unto all men, because all sinned—
C'est pourquoi, comme par un seul homme le péché est entré dans le monde et par le péché la mort, et qu'ainsi la mort s'est étendue à tous les hommes, parce que tous ont péché,
13 (for all the time before the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not set to one's account when there is no law.
car jusques à la loi le péché a été dans le monde; … mais le péché n'est pas imputé là où n'est pas la loi,
14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the manner in which Adam transgressed; who is a type of him who was to come.—
et cependant la mort a régné depuis Adam jusques à Moïse, même sur ceux qui n'ont pas commis de péchés semblables à la transgression d'Adam, lequel est l'image de celui qui devait venir…
15 But the free gift was not as the transgression. For if through the offence of the one the many died, much more hath the grace of God, and the gift which is by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abounded to the many.
Mais il n'en est pas du pardon gratuit comme de la faute; car si par la faute d'un seul tous les autres sont morts, à combien plus forte raison la grâce de Dieu et Son don gratuit se sont-ils abondamment répandus par la grâce d'un seul homme, Jésus-Christ, sur tous les autres!
16 And the free gift is not like what happened through one man who sinned. For sentence of condemnation followed one offence; but the free gift is a justification after many offences.
Et il n'en est pas de ce don comme de ce qui est advenu par le fait d'un seul qui a péché; car tandis que c'est par une seule faute que le jugement est devenu condamnation, c'est en revanche par plusieurs fautes que le pardon gratuit est devenu acquittement.
17 For if by one trespass death reigned through the one man, much more will they who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.)—
En effet, si, par la faute d'un seul, la mort a régné par lui seul, à combien plus forte raison ceux qui reçoivent en abondance la grâce et la justice, régneront-ils dans la vie par le seul Christ-Jésus!
18 As then through one trespass all men have come under condemnation, so through one act of righteousness all obtain the gift of righteousness unto life.
Ainsi donc, comme une seule faute a valu à tous les hommes la condamnation, de même aussi un seul acquittement a valu à tous les hommes la justification qui donne la vie;
19 For as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one man will the many be made righteous.
car, comme par la désobéissance d'un seul homme tous les autres ont été constitués pécheurs, de même aussi par l'obéissance d'un seul tous les autres seront constitués justes.
20 Moreover the law came in in addition, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded much more;
Or la loi est intervenue afin que la faute abondât, mais là où le péché a abondé, la grâce a surabondé;
21 that as sin reigned in death, so grace might reign through righteousness to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. (aiōnios g166)
afin que, comme le péché a régné dans la mort, de même aussi la grâce régnât par la justice pour la vie éternelle par Christ-Jésus notre Seigneur. (aiōnios g166)
