< Luke 20 >

1 And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and publishing the good tidings, that the priests and the scribes with the elders came upon him,
Kwasekusithi ngolunye lwalezonsuku, efundisa abantu ethempelini etshumayela ivangeli, bamfikela abapristi abakhulu lababhali kanye labadala,
2 and spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? Or who is he that gave thee this authority?
basebekhuluma laye, besithi: Sitshele, ukuthi izinto lezi uzenza ngaliphi igunya, kumbe ngubani okunike leligunya?
3 And he answering said to them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me:
Wasephendula wathi kubo: Lami ngizalibuza umbuzo ube munye, njalo lingitshele:
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?
Ubhabhathizo lukaJohane lwavela ezulwini, kumbe ebantwini?
5 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, he will say, Why did ye not believe him?
Basebezindlisana, besithi: Uba sisithi: Ezulwini; uzakuthi: Kungani-ke lingamkholwanga?
6 But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
Kodwa uba sisithi: Ebantwini; abantu bonke bazasikhanda ngamatshe; ngoba baleqiniso lokuthi uJohane wayengumprofethi.
7 And they answered, that they did not know whence it was.
Basebephendula ngokuthi kabazi lapho olwavela khona.
8 And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
UJesu wasesithi kubo: Lami kangilitsheli ukuthi ngenza lezizinto ngaliphi igunya.
9 And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time.
Waseqala ukutshela abantu lumfanekiso, esithi: Umuntu othile wahlanyela isivini, wasiqhatshisa kubalimi, waya kwelinye ilizwe okwesikhathi eside;
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
kwathi ngesikhathi esifaneleyo wathuma inceku kubalimi, ukuze bayinike okwesithelo sesivini; kodwa abalimi bayitshaya bayithumeza ize.
11 And he sent still another servant; and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
Wasethuma njalo enye inceku; layo bayitshaya bayiyangisa, bayithumeza ize.
12 And he went on to send a third; and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Wasephinda ethuma leyesithathu; layo leyo bayilimaza bayiphosela ngaphandle.
13 And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.
Umninisivini wasesithi: Ngizakwenza njani? Ngizathuma indodana yami ethandekayo; mhlawumbe bebona yona bazayihlonipha.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.
Kodwa abalimi beyibona bazindlisana, besithi: Le yindlalifa; wozani, siyibulale, ukuze ilifa libe ngelethu.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
Bayiphosela ngaphandle kwesivini, bayibulala. Kambe uzakwenzani kubo umninisivini?
16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, God forbid!
Uzakuza, ababhubhise labobalimi, anikele isivini kwabanye. Bekuzwa basebesithi: Akungabinjalo!
17 But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, “The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the corner-stone”?
Kodwa wabakhangela wathi: Pho kuyini lokhu okulotshiweyo, okuthi: Ilitshe abakhi abalalayo, yilo eseliyinhloko yengonsi?
18 Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder.
Wonke owela phezu kwalelolitshe, uzaphahlazwa; kodwa loba ngubani eliwela phezu kwakhe, lizamchoboza.
19 And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that hour, but they feared the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable against them.
Abapristi abakhulu lababhali basebedinga ukumbamba ngezandla ngalelohola, kodwa besaba abantu; ngoba baqedisisa ukuthi wayekhuluma lumfanekiso emelane labo.
20 And they kept watch on him, and sent forth spies feigning themselves to be righteous men, that they might take hold of his words, in order to deliver him up to the civil power and to the authority of the governor.
Basebemqaphela, bethuma inhloli, ezazitshaya ezilungileyo, ukuze bambambe ekukhulumeni, ukuze bamnikele egunyeni lemandleni ombusi.
21 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and hast no regard to the person of men, but teachest the way of God truly.
Bambuza-ke, besithi: Mfundisi, siyazi ukuthi wena ukhuluma ufundise ngokuqondileyo, kawemukeli buso, kodwa ufundisa indlela kaNkulunkulu ngeqiniso.
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Sivunyelwe yini ukuthela kuKesari, kumbe hatshi?
23 But perceiving their craftiness, he said to them,
Kodwa wabubona ubuqili babo, wathi kubo: Lingilingelani?
24 Show me a denary. Whose image and inscription hath it? And they answered and said, Caesar's.
Ngitshengisani udenariyo; ulomfanekiso lombhalo kabani? Basebephendula besithi: OkaKesari.
25 And he said to them, Render then to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.
Wasesithi kubo: Ngakho nikani uKesari okukaKesari, loNkulunkulu okukaNkulunkulu.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people; and marveling at his answer, they held their peace.
Basebesehluleka ukumbamba ngelizwi lakhe phambi kwabantu; basebemangaliswa yimpendulo yakhe, bathula.
27 Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to him, and asked him,
Kwasekusiza kuye abathile babaSadusi, abaphika besithi kakukho ukuvuka kwabafileyo, bambuza,
28 saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, “If a man's brother die, having a wife, and the same die without children, his brother shall take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.”
besithi: Mfundisi, uMozisi wasibhalela ukuthi: Uba kusifa umfowabo womuntu elomkakhe, lo abesesifa engelamntwana, umfowabo kamthathe umfazi, abesemvusela inzalo umfowabo.
29 Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless.
Ngakho kwakulezelamani eziyisikhombisa; owokuqala wasethatha umfazi, wafa engelamntwana;
30 And the second
lowesibili wamthatha umfazi, laye lo wafa engelamntwana;
31 and the third took her; and in like manner also the seven left no children, and died.
lowesithathu wamthatha. Kwaba njalo-ke lakwabayisikhombisa; abatshiyanga abantwana, bafa.
32 At last the woman also died.
Ekucineni kwabo bonke kwafa lomfazi.
33 In the resurrection then, of which of them is the woman the wife? for the seven had her for a wife.
Ngakho ekuvukeni kwabafileyo, uzafika abe ngumkabani kubo? Ngoba abayisikhombisa babelaye engumkabo.
34 And Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage; (aiōn g165)
UJesu wasephendula wathi kubo: Abantwana balumhlaba bayathatha, bendiswe; (aiōn g165)
35 but they who have been accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage; (aiōn g165)
kodwa labo okuzathiwa bafanele ukuzuza lowomhlaba lokuvuka kwabafileyo kabathathani, kabendiswa; (aiōn g165)
36 for they cannot die any more; for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
ngoba bengelakuphinda bafe; ngoba banjengezingilosi, njalo bangabantwana bakaNkulunkulu, bengabantwana bokuvuka.
37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses hath shown at the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Kodwa ukuthi abafileyo bayavuswa, loMozisi wakutshengisa esihlahleni, lapho eyibiza iNkosi ngokuthi nguNkulunkulu kaAbrahama loNkulunkulu kaIsaka loNkulunkulu kaJakobe.
38 Now he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him.
Futhi kayisuye uNkulunkulu wabafileyo, kodwa owabaphilayo; ngoba bonke baphilela yena.
39 Then some of the scribes answering, said, Teacher, thou hast well said.
Abathile bababhali basebephendula bathi: Mfundisi, ukhulume kuhle.
40 For they dared no longer to ask him any question.
Njalo kababanga lesibindi sokuphinda bambuze ulutho.
41 And he said to them, How is it that men say that the Christ is David's son?
Wasesithi kubo: Batsho njani ukuthi uKristu uyiNdodana kaDavida?
42 For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, “The Lord said to my lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
Ngoba uDavida uqobo lwakhe uthi encwadini yeziHlabelelo: INkosi yathi eNkosini yami: Hlala ngakwesokunene sami,
43 till I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
ngize ngenze izitha zakho zibe yisenabelo senyawo zakho.
44 David then calleth him lord; and how is he his son?
Ngakho uDavida umbiza ngokuthi yiNkosi, pho uyindodana yakhe njani?
45 And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,
Kwathi besalalele abantu bonke, wathi kubafundi bakhe:
46 Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the chief seats in the synagogues, and the first places at feasts;
Xwayani ababhali abathanda ukuhamba bembethe izembatho ezinde, njalo bethanda ukubingelelwa emidangeni, lezihlalo eziqakathekileyo emasinagogeni, lezihlalo zabahloniphekayo ezilayelweni;
47 who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. These will receive a far greater condemnation.
abadla izindlu zabafelokazi, bekhuleka isikhathi eside ngokuzenzisa. Laba bazakwemukela ukulahlwa okukhulu.
