John 14
1 Let not your heart be troubled. Have faith in God, and have faith in me.
« Que votre cœur ne se trouble point: croyez en Dieu, croyez aussi en moi.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. For I go away to prepare a place for you;
Dans la maison de mon Père il y a plusieurs demeures; sinon, vous dirais-je que je vais vous préparer une place?
3 and when I have gone away and prepared a place for you, I will come again, and will take you to myself; that where I am, ye also may be.
Et si je vais et que je vous prépare une place, je reviendrai, et je vous prendrai auprès de moi, afin que là où je suis vous y soyez aussi;
4 And ye know the way whither I go.
et là où je vais, vous en savez le chemin. »
5 Thomas saith to him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how then do we know the way?
Thomas lui dit: « Seigneur, nous ne savons où tu vas, comment en savons-nous le chemin? »
6 Jesus saith to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one cometh to the Father but through me.
Jésus lui dit: « Je suis le chemin, et la vérité, et la vie; personne ne vient au Père que par moi;
7 If ye knew me, ye would know my Father also; and from this time ye know him, and have seen him.
si vous m'aviez connu, vous auriez aussi connu mon Père; dès maintenant vous Le connaissez et vous L'avez vu. »
8 Philip saith to him, Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied.
Philippe lui dit: « Seigneur, montre-nous le Père, et cela nous suffit. »
9 Jesus saith to him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how is it that thou sayest, Show us the Father?
Jésus lui dit: « Depuis si longtemps je suis avec vous, et tu ne m'as pas connu, Philippe! Celui qui m'a vu a vu le Père; comment dis-tu: Montre-nous le Père?
10 Dost thou not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not from myself; but the Father, who dwelleth in me, doeth his works.
Ne croiras-tu point que je suis dans le Père, et que le Père est en moi? Les paroles que je vous adresse, je ne les profère pas de mon chef; mais le Père qui demeure en moi fait Ses propres œuvres;
11 Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; but if not, believe for the very works' sake.
croyez-moi, quand je dis que je suis dans le Père et que le Père est en moi; sinon, croyez-moi à cause de Ses œuvres.
12 Truly, truly do I say to you, He that believeth in me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater than these shall he do; because I am going to the Father,
En vérité, en vérité je vous le déclare, celui qui croit en moi, les œuvres que je fais, lui aussi les fera, et il en fera de plus grandes, parce que je m'en vais vers le Père;
13 and whatever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do; that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
et, quoi que ce soit qu'on demande en mon nom, je le ferai, afin que le Père soit glorifié dans le Fils;
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
si vous me demandez quelque chose en mon nom, je le ferai.
15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments;
Si vous m'aimez, vous garderez mes commandements,
16 and I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever; (aiōn g165)
et moi je prierai le Père, et Il vous donnera un autre défenseur, pour être éternellement avec vous, (aiōn g165)
17 the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive, because it doth not behold it, nor know it; ye know it, because it abideth with you, and will be in you.
l'Esprit de vérité, que le monde ne peut recevoir, car il ne le voit point, ni ne le connaît point; pour vous, vous le connaissez, car il demeure près de vous, et il est en vous.
18 I will not leave you bereaved; I am coming to you.
Je ne vous laisserai point orphelins, je viens à vous;
19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye will behold me, because I live, and ye will live.
encore un peu de temps, et le monde ne me voit plus, mais vous, vous me verrez, parce que je vis, et que vous aussi vous vivrez;
20 In that day ye will know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
en ce jour-là vous connaîtrez que je suis en mon Père, et que vous êtes en moi, et que je suis en vous.
21 He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me will be loved by my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Celui qui possède mes commandements et qui les garde, c'est celui-là qui m'aime; celui qui m'aime sera aimé par mon Père, et moi aussi je l'aimerai et je me manifesterai moi-même à lui. »
22 Judas, not Iscariot, saith to him, And how is it, Lord, that thou art going to manifest thyself to us, and not to the world?
Judas, non pas l'Iscariote, lui dit: « Seigneur, que s'est-il passé pour que tu doives te manifester à nous, et non pas au monde? »
23 Jesus answered and said to him, If any one loveth me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him.
Jésus lui répliqua: « Si quelqu'un m'aime il gardera ma parole, et mon Père l'aimera, et nous viendrons vers lui et nous ferons un séjour chez lui;
24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
celui qui ne m'aime pas ne garde point mes paroles; et la parole que vous entendez n'est pas de moi, mais du Père qui m'a envoyé.
25 These things have I spoken to you, while abiding with you;
Je vous ai dit ces choses pendant que je demeurais près de vous,
26 but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit which the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things which I have said to you.
mais le défenseur, l'Esprit Saint qu'enverra le Père en mon nom, celui-là vous instruira de tout, et vous remettra en mémoire tout ce que je vous ai dit.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world giveth, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.
Pour moi, je vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix; ce n'est pas comme donne le monde, que je vous donne. Que votre cœur ne se trouble point et qu'il ne s'effarouche point.
28 Ye heard me say to you, I am going away, and am coming again to you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced that I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.
Vous avez entendu que je vous ai dit: Je m'en vais, et, je viens à vous; si vous m'aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais vers le Père, parce que le Père est plus grand que moi.
29 And now I have told you before it hath come to pass, that when it hath come to pass ye may believe.
Et maintenant, je vous l'ai dit avant que cela ait eu lieu, afin que, lorsque cela aura eu lieu, vous croyiez.
30 I shall not talk much more with you. For the prince of the world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
Je ne parlerai plus de beaucoup de choses avec vous, car le chef du monde vient, et il ne me peut rien,
31 But [[this must be]] that the world may know that I love the Father, and that as the Father gave me commandment so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
mais, afin que le monde sache que j'aime le Père, et que j'agis conformément à l'ordre que le Père m'a donné, levez-vous, sortons d'ici. »
