Acts 9
1 But Saul, yet breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
Or Saul, respirant encore la menace et le meurtre contre les disciples du Seigneur, vint trouver le grand prêtre
2 and asked of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any who were of this way of belief, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
et lui demanda des lettres pour les synagogues de Damas, afin que, s'il trouvait quelques adhérents de la doctrine, hommes et femmes, il les ramenât chargés de chaînes à Jérusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shone around a him a light from heaven;
Et, comme il était en chemin, il advint, lorsqu'il approchait de Damas, que, tout à coup, une lumière venue du ciel l'enveloppa comme un éclair,
4 and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
et qu'étant tombé à terre il entendit une voix qui lui disait: « Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? »
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he answered, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
Mais il dit: « Qui es-tu, Seigneur? » Et lui: « Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes;
6 But arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
mais lève-toi, et entre dans la ville, et l'on te dira ce qu'il faut que tu fasses. »
7 And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but seeing no one.
Or les hommes qui faisaient route avec lui étaient demeurés muets; ils entendaient bien la voix, mais ils ne voyaient personne.
8 And Saul arose from the earth; but when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
Cependant Paul se releva de terre, mais, les yeux ouverts, il ne voyait rien, et ce fut en le conduisant par la main qu'on le fit entrer à Damas.
9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
Il resta trois jours sans voir clair, et il ne mangeait ni ne buvait.
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias, and to him the Lord said in a vision, Ananias! And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
Or il y avait à Damas un disciple nommé Ananias, et le seigneur lui dit, dans une vision: « Ananias! » et il dit: « Me voici, Seigneur! »
11 And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the street called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus; for lo! he prayeth,
Mais le Seigneur lui dit: « Lève-toi, et va dans la rue appelée droite et cherche, dans la maison de Judas, un nommé Saul de Tarse; car, voici, il est en prière,
12 and hath seen a man, named Ananias, coming in and putting his hand on him, that he might receive sight.
et il a vu en vision un homme nommé Ananias, qui entrait et lui imposait les mains, afin qu'il recouvrât la vue. »
13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how great evils he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem.
Mais Ananias répliqua: « Seigneur, j'ai ouï parler à bien des gens de tous les maux que cet homme a fait souffrir à tes saints dans Jérusalem;
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
et il apporte ici une autorisation des grands prêtres pour charger de chaînes tous ceux qui invoquent ton nom. »
15 But the Lord said to him, Go; for this man is to me a chosen vessel, to bear my name before nations, and kings, and the sons of Israel.
Mais le seigneur lui dit: « Va, parce que cet homme est pour moi un instrument de choix destiné à porter mon nom devant les Gentils et devant des rois, et devant les fils d'Israël;
16 For I myself will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
car je lui montrerai tout ce qu'il faut qu'il souffre pour mon nom. »
17 And Ananias went away, and entered the house; and putting his hands on him, he said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus who appeared to thee in the way thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayst receive sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Là-dessus Ananias s'en vint et entra dans la maison, et, lui ayant imposé les mains, il dit: « Saul, mon frère, c'est le Seigneur qui m'a envoyé, — Jésus qui t'est apparu sur la route par laquelle tu venais, — afin que tu recouvres la vue et que tu sois rempli d'esprit saint. »
18 And immediately there fell off from his eyes as it were scales; and he received sight, and arose, and was baptized.
Et aussitôt il tomba de ses yeux comme des écailles, et il recouvra la vue, et s'étant levé il fut baptisé,
19 And having taken some food he was strengthened. And he was some days with the disciples in Damascus.
et ayant pris de la nourriture il se fortifia. Or il demeura quelques jours avec les disciples qui étaient à Damas,
20 And immediately he preached Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
et il prêchait immédiatement Jésus dans les synagogues en disant: « C'est lui qui est le fils de Dieu. »
21 And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that destroyed in Jerusalem those who called on this name? And he hath come hither for this purpose, that he may bring them bound to the chief priests.
Mais tous ceux qui l'entendaient étaient dans l'étonnement, et ils disaient: « N'est-ce pas cet homme qui maltraitait dans Jérusalem ceux qui invoquent ce nom, et qui était venu ici dans le but de les amener chargés de chaînes devant les grands prêtres? »
22 But Saul gained still more strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.
Quant à Saul, il prenait toujours plus de puissance, et il confondait les Juifs qui habitaient Damas en démontrant cette vérité: « C'est lui qui est le Christ. »
23 But after many days had passed, the Jews took counsel together to kill him;
Mais, au bout d'un certain temps, les Juifs complotèrent de le faire périr;
24 but their plot became known to Saul; and they were even watching the gates day and night to kill him.
mais leur projet vint à la connaissance de Saul. Or on faisait même la garde aux portes, jour et nuit, afin de le faire périr;
25 But his disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.
mais ses disciples le prirent de nuit, et le firent descendre par la muraille en le dévalant dans une corbeille.
26 And when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join himself to the disciples; and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.
Cependant, quand il fut arrivé à Jérusalem, il tâchait de frayer avec les disciples, et tous le craignaient, ne croyant pas qu'il fût disciple.
27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and related to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that he had spoken to him, and hew he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
Mais Barnabas s'étant emparé de lui le conduisit auprès des apôtres, et il leur raconta comment sur la route il avait vu le seigneur, et que celui-ci lui avait parlé, et comment à Damas il avait prêché avec assurance au nom de Jésus.
28 And he was with them going in and out at Jerusalem,
Et il était en rapport avec eux dans Jérusalem, prêchant avec assurance au nom du seigneur;
29 speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. And he often spoke and disputed with the Hellenists; but they were endeavoring to slay him.
et il parlait et discutait avec les Hellénistes; mais ceux-ci tâchaient de le faire périr.
30 But the brethren obtaining knowledge of it, brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
Ce que les frères ayant su, ils le conduisirent à Césarée, et l'envoyèrent à Tarse.
31 The church therefore throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being built up, and walking in the fear of the Lord; and by the exhortation of the Holy Spirit it was greatly increased.
Tandis que l'Église était donc en paix dans toute la Judée, la Galilée et la Samarie, s'édifiant et marchant dans la crainte du Seigneur, et qu'elle s'accroissait par l'assistance du Saint Esprit,
32 And it came to pass, that as Peter went through the whole country, he came down also to the saints who dwelt at Lydda.
il advint que Pierre, qui faisait une tournée, arriva aussi auprès des frères qui habitaient Lydda,
33 And there he found a certain man named AEneas, who had lain on a bed eight years, and was palsied.
et il y trouva un homme nommé Énée couché depuis huit ans sur un grabat, et qui était paralytique;
34 And Peter said to him, AEneas, Jesus the Christ healeth thee; arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.
et Pierre lui dit: « Énée, Jésus-Christ te guérit; lève-toi, et fais-toi toi-même ton lit. » Et aussitôt il se leva,
35 And all that dwelt in Lydda and Sharon saw him; and they turned to the Lord.
et tous ceux qui habitaient Lydda et la plaine de Saron le virent, lesquels se convertirent au seigneur.
36 Now at Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which name being interpreted is the same as Dorcas, that is, Gazelle. This woman was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did.
Or il y avait à Joppé, parmi les disciples, une femme nommée Tabitha, ce qui, étant traduit, signifie Gazelle; elle était riche des bonnes œuvres et des aumônes qu'elle faisait;
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.
mais il advint qu'en ce temps-là elle tomba malade et mourut; après l'avoir lavée on la déposa dans une chambre haute;
38 And as Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent to him two men with the entreaty, Do not delay to come to us.
mais, comme Lydda est près de Joppé, les disciples ayant appris que Pierre était dans cette ville, dépêchèrent auprès de lui deux hommes pour lui dire avec instances: « Ne tarde pas à venir jusques à nous. »
39 Then Peter arose, and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber; and all the widows came to him weeping, and showing the coats and cloaks which Dorcas made while she was with them.
Or Pierre s'étant levé revint avec eux. Dès qu'il fut arrivé, on le conduisit dans la chambre haute, et là se présentèrent à lui toutes les veuves en larmes, qui lui montraient toutes les tuniques et les manteaux auxquels Gazelle travaillait pendant qu'elle était avec elles.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and seeing Peter, she sat up.
Mais Pierre fit sortir tout le monde, et, s'étant mis à genoux, il fit une prière, puis, s'étant tourné vers le corps, il dit: « Tabitha, lève-toi! » Celle-ci ouvrit les yeux, et ayant vu Pierre, elle s'assit;
41 And he gave her his hand, and raised her up; and calling the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.
mais il lui donna la main, et la fit mettre debout, et, ayant appelé les saints et les veuves, il la leur présenta vivante.
42 And it became known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
Cela fut connu de tout Joppé, et plusieurs crurent au seigneur.
43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon, a tanner.
Or il resta plusieurs jours à Joppé chez un certain Simon corroyeur.
