Acts 4
1 And while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,
Cependant, tandis qu'ils parlaient au peuple, survinrent contre eux les grands prêtres et le chef des gardes du temple, ainsi que les sadducéens,
2 being indignant that they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
vexés de ce qu'ils enseignaient le peuple et lui annonçaient en la personne de Jésus la résurrection d'entre les morts,
3 And they laid hands upon them, and put them in prison until the next day; for it was now evening.
et ils mirent les mains sur eux, et ils les jetèrent en prison jusques au lendemain; car c'était déjà le soir.
4 Many however of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men became five thousand.
Mais plusieurs de ceux qui avaient entendu le discours crurent, et le nombre des hommes arriva à environ cinq mille.
5 And it came to pass on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes,
Or il advint le lendemain que leurs magistrats, leurs anciens, et leurs scribes se rassemblèrent à Jérusalem,
6 and Annas the high-priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high-priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
ainsi que Annas le grand prêtre, et Caïaphas, et Jean, et Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la race des grands prêtres,
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, did ye do this?
et les ayant fait comparaître au milieu d'eux, ils leur demandaient: « En vertu de quelle puissance ou de quel nom avez-vous agi ainsi; vous autres? »
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel!
Alors Pierre, rempli de l'esprit saint, leur dit: « Chefs du peuple et anciens,
9 If we are this day examined in respect to a good deed done to a cripple, by what means he hath been restored,
puisque nous avons à répondre aujourd'hui, à propos de la guérison d'un homme infirme, sur la manière dont il a été guéri,
10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, —by him doth this man stand here before you sound.
qu'il soit notoire à vous tous et à tout le peuple d'Israël, que c'est au nom de Jésus-Christ le Nazoréen, lui que vous avez crucifié, lui que Dieu a ressuscité d'entre les morts; c'est grâce à lui que cet homme se présente bien portant devant vous.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought by you the builders, which is become a cornerstone.
C'est lui qui est la pierre qui, méprisée par vous; les constructeurs, est devenue le sommet de l'angle;
12 And there is salvation in no other; for there is not another name under heaven, that hath been given among men, by which we must be saved.
et le salut ne se trouve en aucun autre; car il n'y a pas un autre nom sous le ciel, qui ait été donné parmi les hommes, par lequel vous deviez être sauvés. »
13 And when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and common men, they wondered; and they recognized them as having been with Jesus.
Voyant l'assurance de Pierre et de Jean, et ayant appris que c'étaient des hommes sans instruction et du commun, ils étaient dans l'étonnement, et ils les reconnaissaient pour avoir été avec Jésus;
14 And seeing the man that had been cured standing with them, they could say nothing in reply.
et, comme ils voyaient debout à côté d'eux l'homme qui avait été guéri, ils n'avaient rien à objecter,
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
Mais, leur ayant ordonné de sortir du sanhédrin, ils consultaient entre eux
16 saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a remarkable sign hath been wrought by them is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
en disant: « Que pouvons-nous faire à ces hommes-là? Car un miracle notoire a été opéré par eux, il est évident pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et nous ne pouvons le nier;
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us strictly forbid them with threats to speak any longer in this name to any one.
mais, afin qu'il ne se divulgue pas davantage parmi le peuple, ordonnons-leur avec menaces de ne plus parler en ce nom-là à personne. »
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach, in the name of Jesus.
Et les ayant rappelés, ils leur interdirent absolument de parler et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye.
Mais Pierre et Jean leur répliquèrent: « Jugez s'il est juste devant Dieu de vous écouter plutôt que Dieu?
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard.
Car, pour nous, nous ne pouvons pas ne point parler de ce que nous savons et de ce que nous avons entendu. »
21 So, having further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, on account of the people; because all were glorifying God for that which had been done.
Mais ils les renvoyèrent avec de nouvelles menaces, ne trouvant aucun moyen de les punir à cause du peuple, parce que tout le monde glorifiait Dieu de ce qui était arrivé;
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this sign of the healing had been wrought.
car l'homme sur lequel s'était opéré le miracle de cette guérison avait plus de quarante ans.
23 And being released they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
Or, quand ils eurent été renvoyés, ils vinrent auprès des leurs et racontèrent tout ce que les grands prêtres et les anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And on hearing it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art he that made heaven and earth and sea, and all things that are in them;
Et les autres, après l'avoir ouï, élevèrent unanimement la voix vers Dieu, et dirent: « O Souverain, Toi, qui as créé le ciel et la terre et la mer et tout ce qui s'y trouve,
25 who by the mouth of thy servant David said, “Why did the heathen rage, and the peoples meditate vain things?
qui, par l'esprit saint dans la bouche de notre père David Ton serviteur, as dit: « Pourquoi des nations ont-elles frémi de colère, et des peuples ont-ils formé de vains projets?
26 The kings of the earth came up, and the rulers assembled together, against the Lord, and against his Anointed.”
Les rois de la terre se sont insurgés, et les magistrats se sont coalisés contre le Seigneur et contre Son oint; » —
27 For in truth against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, did both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles, and the peoples of Israel, assemble in this city,
car Hérode et Ponce Pilate se sont effectivement coalisés dans cette ville-ci contre Ton saint serviteur Jésus que Tu as oint, avec des Gentils et avec les peuples d'Israël,
28 to do whatever thy hand and thy will before determined to be done.
pour exécuter tout ce que Ta main et Ton conseil avaient prédéterminé. —
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to thy servants that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
Et maintenant, Seigneur, surveille leurs menaces, et donne à Tes esclaves d'annoncer Ta parole avec toute assurance,
30 while thou stretchest forth thy hand to heal, and signs and wonders are wrought through the name of thy holy servant Jesus.
en étendant Ta main pour qu'il s'opère des guérisons, et pour qu'il se fasse, par le nom de Ton saint serviteur Jésus, des miracles et des prodiges. »
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Et, après qu'ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient réunis trembla, et ils furent tous remplis du saint esprit et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart, and of one soul; and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Or, la multitude de ceux qui avaient cru était un seul cœur et une seule âme, et pas même un seul d'entre eux ne disait que quoi que ce fût qu'il possédât lui appartînt en propre, mais tout leur était commun.
33 And with great power did the apostles give their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all.
Et les apôtres du seigneur Jésus rendaient avec une grande puissance témoignage de sa résurrection; et une grande grâce reposait sur eux tous.
34 For there was no one among them that was in want; for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
En effet, personne parmi eux n'était dans le besoin; car tous ceux qui possédaient des fonds de terre ou des maisons les vendaient et apportaient le prix de leurs ventes,
35 and laid them at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was made to every one, according as he had need.
et ils le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; et l'on répartissait à chacun selon ses besoins.
36 And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, when interpreted, Son of consolation, ) a Levite, born in Cyprus,
Or Joseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabas, ce qui signifie, étant traduit, fils d'exhortation, lévite, Cypriote d'origine,
37 having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
ayant vendu un champ qu'il possédait, apporta l'argent et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
