< Luke 2 >

1 Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be enrolled.
En aquellos días, salió un decreto de César Augusto para que se inscribiera todo el mundo.
2 This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
Esta fue la primera inscripción que se hizo cuando Quirinius era gobernador de Siria.
3 All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
Todos fueron a inscribirse, cada uno a su ciudad.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
También José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, porque era de la casa y de la familia de David,
5 to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him, being pregnant.
para inscribirse con María, que estaba comprometida con él como esposa, estando embarazada.
6 It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.
Mientras estaban allí, le llegó el día de dar a luz.
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him with pieces of cloth, and placed him in a feeding trough, because there was no guest room available for them.
Dio a luz a su hijo primogénito. Lo envolvió en cintas de tela y lo puso en un pesebre, porque no había sitio para ellos en la posada.
8 There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
Había en la misma región unos pastores que permanecían en el campo y velaban de noche por su rebaño.
9 And look, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
He aquí que un ángel del Señor se puso junto a ellos, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó, y se asustaron.
10 The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for see, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
El ángel les dijo: “No temáis, porque he aquí que os traigo una buena noticia de gran alegría que será para todo el pueblo.
11 For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ, the Lord.
Porque os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.
12 This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough."
Esta es la señal para vosotros: encontraréis un niño envuelto en tiras de tela, acostado en un comedero”.
13 Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,
De repente, apareció con el ángel una multitud del ejército celestial que alababa a Dios y decía
14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward humankind."
“Gloria a Dios en las alturas, en la tierra la paz, la buena voluntad hacia los hombres”.
15 And it happened that when the angels went away from them into the sky, the shepherds said one to another, "Let us go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."
Cuando los ángeles se alejaron de ellos hacia el cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: “Vamos ahora a Belén a ver esto que ha sucedido y que el Señor nos ha dado a conocer.”
16 They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.
Llegaron a toda prisa y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
17 When they saw it, they made known the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
Al verlo, difundieron ampliamente el dicho que se les había dicho sobre este niño.
18 All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
Todos los que lo oían se asombraban de lo que les decían los pastores.
19 But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
Pero María guardaba todas estas palabras, meditándolas en su corazón.
20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
Los pastores volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, tal como se les había dicho.
21 When eight days were fulfilled to circumcise him, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para la circuncisión del niño, se le puso el nombre de Jesús, que le fue dado por el ángel antes de ser concebido en el vientre.
22 When the days of their purification according to the Law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord
Cuando se cumplieron los días de su purificación según la ley de Moisés, lo llevaron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor
23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord"),
(como está escrito en la ley del Señor: “Todo varón que abra el vientre será llamado santo para el Señor”),
24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the Law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."
y para ofrecer un sacrificio según lo que se dice en la ley del Señor: “Un par de tórtolas o dos pichones”.
25 And look, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
He aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre que se llamaba Simeón. Este hombre era justo y piadoso, y buscaba la consolación de Israel, y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de ver al Cristo del Señor.
27 He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the requirement of the Law,
Entró en el templo en el Espíritu. Cuando los padres introdujeron al niño, Jesús, para que hicieran con él lo que estaba previsto en la ley,
28 then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
entonces lo recibió en sus brazos, bendijo a Dios y dijo
29 "Now you are releasing your servant, Lord, according to your word, in peace;
“Ahora, Señor, liberas a tu siervo, en paz, según tu palabra;
30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,
porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación,
31 which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
que has preparado delante de todos los pueblos;
32 a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel."
una luz para la revelación a las naciones, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel”.
33 And his father and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,
José y su madre se maravillaban de lo que se decía de él.
34 and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, "Look, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
Simeón los bendijo, y dijo a María, su madre: “He aquí que este niño está destinado a la caída y al levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y a ser una señal de la que se habla.
35 Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
Sí, una espada atravesará tu propia alma, para que se revelen los pensamientos de muchos corazones.”
36 There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
Había una tal Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser (era de edad avanzada, pues había vivido con un marido siete años desde su virginidad,
37 and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who did not depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.
y llevaba como ochenta y cuatro años de viuda), que no se apartaba del templo, adorando con ayunos y peticiones noche y día.
38 Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Subiendo a esa misma hora, dio gracias al Señor y habló de él a todos los que buscaban la redención en Jerusalén.
39 When they had accomplished all things that were according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
Cuando cumplieron todo lo que estaba previsto en la ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad, Nazaret.
40 The child was growing, and was becoming strong, being filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.
El niño crecía y se fortalecía en su espíritu, lleno de sabiduría, y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
41 His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
Sus padres iban todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 When he was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the feast,
Cuando tenía doce años, subieron a Jerusalén según la costumbre de la fiesta;
43 and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it,
y cuando se cumplieron los días, al regresar, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén. José y su madre no lo sabían,
44 but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day's journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
pero suponiendo que estaba en la compañía, se fueron de viaje un día; y lo buscaron entre sus parientes y conocidos.
45 When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
Al no encontrarlo, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándolo.
46 It happened after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.
Al cabo de tres días lo encontraron en el templo, sentado en medio de los maestros, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.
47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
Todos los que le oían se asombraban de su comprensión y de sus respuestas.
48 When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us this way? Look, your father and I were anxiously looking for you."
Al verle, se asombraron; y su madre le dijo: “Hijo, ¿por qué nos has tratado así? He aquí que tu padre y yo te buscábamos ansiosamente”.
49 He said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be doing the works of my Father?"
Él les dijo: “¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que debía estar en la casa de mi Padre?”
50 They did not understand the saying which he spoke to them.
Ellos no entendían lo que les decía.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
Bajó con ellos y llegó a Nazaret. Se sometió a ellos, y su madre guardaba todas estas palabras en su corazón.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and people.
Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría y en estatura, y en gracia ante Dios y los hombres.
