1 Timothy 3
1 This is a faithful saying: If someone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a good work.
Fiel es la Palabra: Si alguno anhela oficio de supervisor, desea buena obra.
2 The overseer, therefore, must be beyond criticism, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, good at teaching;
Es necesario que el supervisor sea irreprochable, esposo de una sola esposa, sobrio, prudente, honorable, hospedador, apto para enseñar,
3 not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money;
no adicto al vino, ni pendenciero, sino amable, apacible, no avaro,
4 one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;
que gobierne bien su propia familia, que tenga hijos en sujeción con toda dignidad,
5 (but if someone does not know how to manage his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)
(pues si alguno no sabe dirigir a su propia familia, ¿cómo cuidará de la iglesia de Dios?),
6 not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
no un recién convertido, no sea que, después de envanecerse caiga en juicio del diablo.
7 Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into disgrace and the trap of the devil.
Debe tener también buen testimonio de los de afuera, para que no caiga en reproche y trampa del diablo.
8 Deacons, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not devoted to a lot of wine, not greedy for money;
Asimismo, [los ]diáconos, sean serios, sin doblez de lengua, dignos de respeto, no de doble palabra, no adictos a mucho vino, no codiciosos de ganancia deshonesta,
9 holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
que guarden el misterio de la fe con limpia conciencia.
10 Let them also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, if they are blamesless.
Éstos también sean probados primero, y entonces, si son irreprochables, sirvan como diáconos.
11 Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
De igual manera, [las ]mujeres, sean serias, no calumniadoras, sobrias, fieles en todo.
12 Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
[Los] diáconos, que sean esposos de una sola esposa, que se encarguen bien de [sus ]hijos y de sus propias casas.
13 For those who have served well as deacons gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Porque los que ministran bien se ganan una buena posición y mucha confianza en [la] fe en Cristo Jesús.
14 These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;
Esto te escribo con esperanza de visitarte en breve.
15 but if I wait long, that you may know how people ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Pero, si demoro, [te escribo ]para que sepas cómo debes conducirte en la familia de Dios, que es [la] iglesia del Dios viviente, columna y fundamento de la verdad.
16 Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: He was revealed in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
Por confesión unánime, grande es el misterio de la piedad: Él fue manifestado en [el ]cuerpo, Justificado en Espíritu, Visto por ángeles, Proclamado entre gentiles, Creído en [el] mundo, Recibido arriba en gloria.
