1 Samuel 17
1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim.
൧അതിനുശേഷം ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ സൈന്യത്തെ യുദ്ധത്തിനായി ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി; അവർ യെഹൂദയിലെ സോഖോവിൽ ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി. അവർ സോഖോവിന്നും അസേക്കെക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ഏഫെസ്-ദമ്മീമിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി.
2 Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and camped in the Valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
൨ശൌലും യിസ്രായേല്യരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി, ഏലാതാഴ്വരയിൽ പാളയമിറങ്ങി ഫെലിസ്ത്യർക്ക് എതിരായി പടക്ക് അണിനിരന്നു;
3 The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
൩താഴ്വരയുടെ ഒരു വശത്തുള്ള മലയിൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും മറുവശത്തുള്ള മലയിൽ യിസ്രായേല്യരും നിന്നു;
4 There went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six feet eight inches.
൪അപ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഗത്യയനായ ഗൊല്യാത്ത് എന്ന ഒരു മല്ലൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ ആറ് മുഴവും ഒരു ചാണും ഉയരമുള്ളവൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
5 He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.
൫അവന് തലയിൽ താമ്രംകൊണ്ടുള്ള തൊപ്പി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ അയ്യായിരം ശേക്കെൽ തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു താമ്രകവചവും ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു.
6 And he had bronze shin guards on his legs, and a javelin of bronze between his shoulders.
൬അവന് താമ്രംകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാൽചട്ടയും ചുമലിൽ ഒരു കുന്തവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
7 The staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and his shield bearer went before him.
൭അവന്റെ കുന്തത്തിന്റെ തണ്ട് നെയ്ത്തുകാരൻ നൂൽ നൂൽക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന പടപ്പുതടിപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു; കുന്തത്തിന്റെ അലക് അറുനൂറ് ശേക്കെൽ ഇരുമ്പ് ആയിരുന്നു; ഒരു പരിചക്കാരൻ അവന്റെ മുമ്പെ നടന്നു.
8 He stood and shouted to the armies of Israel, and said to them, "Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
൮അവൻ യിസ്രായേൽ പടയുടെ നേരെ വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞത്: “നിങ്ങൾ വന്നു യുദ്ധത്തിനു അണിനിരക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന്? ഞാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനും നിങ്ങൾ ശൌലിന്റെ പടയാളികളും അല്ലയോ? നിങ്ങൾ ഒരുവനെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുക; അവൻ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഇറങ്ങിവരട്ടെ.
9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you will be our servants, and serve us."
൯അവൻ എന്നോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ത് എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാൻ പ്രാപ്തനായാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് അടിമകൾ ആകാം; ഞാൻ അവനെ ജയിച്ച് കൊന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് അടിമകളായി ഞങ്ങളെ സേവിക്കണം”.
10 The Philistine said, "I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together."
൧൦ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ പിന്നെയും: “ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് യിസ്രായേൽപടകളെ വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുന്നു; ഞങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുവാനായി ഒരുവനെ വിട്ടുതരുവിൻ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
൧൧ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ ഈ വാക്കുകൾ ശൌലും എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേല്യരും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഭ്രമിച്ച് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. And in the days of Saul the man was old and advanced in years.
൧൨യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്-ലേഹേമിൽ യിശ്ശായി എന്ന എഫ്രാത്യന്റെ എട്ട് മക്കളിൽ ഒരുവനായിരുന്നു ദാവീദ്; യിശ്ശായി അന്ന് വൃദ്ധനായിരുന്നു.
13 The three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his sons who went to the battle were Eliab, the firstborn, and Abinadab, the second, and Shimeah, the third.
൧൩യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മൂത്ത മക്കൾ മൂന്ന് പേരും ശൌലിന്റെകൂടെ യുദ്ധത്തിന് ചെന്നിരുന്നു. അവരിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ മകന്റെ പേര് എലീയാബ്, രണ്ടാമൻ അബീനാദാബ്, മൂന്നാമൻ ശമ്മയും ആയിരുന്നു.
14 David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
൧൪ദാവീദ് എല്ലാവരിലും ഇളയവൻ; മൂത്തവർ മൂന്നുപേരും ശൌലിന്റെകൂടെ പോയിരുന്നു.
15 Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
൧൫ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളെ മേയിക്കുവാൻ ബേത്ത്-ലേഹേമിൽ പോയിവരുക പതിവായിരുന്നു.
16 The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
൧൬ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ നാല്പത് ദിവസം മുടങ്ങാതെ രാവിലെയും വൈകുന്നേരവും മുമ്പോട്ടുവന്ന് വെല്ലുവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
17 Jesse said to David his son, "Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp and give them to your brothers;
൧൭യിശ്ശായി തന്റെ മകനായ ദാവീദിനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: “ഈ ഒരു പറ മലരും, പത്ത് അപ്പവും എടുത്ത് പാളയത്തിൽ നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ വേഗം കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് കൊടുക്ക.
18 and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news."
൧൮ഈ പത്ത് പാൽക്കട്ട സഹസ്രാധിപന് കൊടുക്കുക; നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ക്ഷേമം അന്വേഷിച്ച് മറുപടിയുമായി വരിക.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
൧൯ശൌലും അവരും യിസ്രായേല്യർ ഒക്കെയും ഏലാതാഴ്വരയിൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്.
20 David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the army which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
൨൦അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് അതികാലത്ത് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് ആടുകളെ കാവല്ക്കാരന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ട്, യിശ്ശായി തന്നോട് കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് ചെന്നു. ദാവീദ് അടുത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോൾ സൈന്യം യുദ്ധത്തിന് ആർത്തുവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പുറപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു.
21 Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
൨൧യിസ്രായേലും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും യുദ്ധത്തിന് അണിനിരന്നു.
22 David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
൨൨ദാവീദ് തന്റെ കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സാധനങ്ങൾ പടക്കോപ്പ് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിട്ട് സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോട് കുശലം ചോദിച്ചു.
23 As he talked with them, look, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
൨൩അവൻ അവരോട് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നില്ക്കുമ്പോൾ ഗത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്ത് എന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യമല്ലൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നിരകളിൽനിന്ന് വന്ന് മുമ്പിലത്തെ വാക്കുകൾതന്നെ പറയുന്നത് ദാവീദ് കേട്ടു.
24 All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were terrified.
൨൪അവനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേല്യരൊക്കെയും ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ട് അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്ന് ഓടി.
25 The men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house exempt in Israel."
൨൫അപ്പോൾ യിസ്രായേല്യർ: “ഈ നില്ക്കുന്ന ഇവനെ കണ്ടുവോ? അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുവാൻ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവനെ രാജാവ് മഹാസമ്പന്നനാക്കും. തന്റെ മകളെ അവന് വിവാഹം ചെയ്ത് കൊടുക്കുകയും അവന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന് യിസ്രായേലിൽ കരമൊഴിവ് കല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
26 David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away this disgrace from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"
൨൬അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ അടുക്കൽ നില്ക്കുന്നവരോട്: “ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ കൊന്ന് യിസ്രായേലിൽനിന്ന് നിന്ദയെ നീക്കിക്കളയുന്നവന് എന്ത് കൊടുക്കും? ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സേനകളെ നിന്ദിക്കുവാൻ ഈ അഗ്രചർമ്മിയായ ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ ആർ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
27 The people answered him in this way, saying, "So shall it be done to the man who kills him."
൨൭അതിന് ജനം: “അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവന് മുമ്പ് പറഞ്ഞതൊക്കെയും കൊടുക്കും” എന്ന് അവനോട് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
28 Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, "Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the wickedness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle."
൨൮അവരോട് അവൻ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത് അവന്റെ മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠൻ എലീയാബ് കേട്ട് ദാവീദിനോട് കോപിച്ചു: “നീ ഇവിടെ എന്തിന് വന്നു? മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഉള്ള ആടുകളെ നീ ആരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ട് പോന്നു? നിന്റെ അഹങ്കാരവും നിഗളഭാവവും എനിക്കറിയാം; പട കാണ്മാനല്ലേ നീ വന്നത്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
29 David said, "What have I now done? Is there not a cause?"
൨൯അതിന് ദാവീദ്: “ഞാൻ ഇപ്പോൾ എന്ത് തെറ്റ് ചെയ്തു? ഒരു ചോദ്യം ചോദിച്ചതല്ലേയുള്ളൂ?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
30 He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.
൩൦ദാവീദ് അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി മറ്റൊരുവനോട് അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ ചോദിച്ചു; ജനം മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ തന്നെ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
31 When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
൩൧ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞവാക്ക് കേട്ടവർ അത് ശൌലിനെ അറിയിച്ചു; അവൻ അവനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി.
32 David said to Saul, "Let not my lord's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine."
൩൨ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോട്: “ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ആരും ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട; അടിയൻ ചെന്ന് ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
33 Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."
൩൩ശൌല്‍ ദാവീദിനോട്: “ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോട് ചെന്ന് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുവാൻ നിനക്ക് പ്രാപ്തിയില്ല; നീ ഒരു ബാലൻ അത്രേ; അവനോ, ബാല്യംമുതൽ യോദ്ധാവാകുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
34 David said to Saul, "Your servant was keeping his father's sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock,
൩൪ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: “അടിയൻ അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളെ മേയിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരു സിംഹവും, കരടിയും വന്ന് കൂട്ടത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒരാട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെ പിടിച്ചു.
35 I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him.
൩൫ഞാൻ പിന്തുടർന്ന് അതിനെ അടിച്ച് അതിന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്ന് ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെ രക്ഷിച്ചു. അത് എന്റെ നേരെ വന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അതിനെ താടിക്ക് പിടിച്ച് അടിച്ചുകൊന്നു.
36 Your servant struck both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them. Should I not go and smite him, and remove this day a disgrace from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised one, since he has defied the armies of the living God?"
൩൬ഇങ്ങനെ അടിയൻ സിംഹത്തെയും കരടിയെയും കൊന്നു; ഈ അഗ്രചർമ്മിയായ ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സൈന്യത്തെ നിന്ദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ട് അവനും അവയിൽ ഒന്നിനെപ്പോലെ ആകും”.
37 David said, "YHWH who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go; and YHWH shall be with you."
൩൭ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയും: “സിംഹത്തിന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നും കരടിയുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നും എന്നെ രക്ഷിച്ച യഹോവ, ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നും എന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശൌല്‍ ദാവീദിനോട്: “ചെല്ലുക; യഹോവ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
38 Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
൩൮ശൌല്‍ തന്റെ പടയങ്കി ദാവീദിനെ ധരിപ്പിച്ച് അവന്റെ തലയിൽ താമ്രതൊപ്പി വച്ചു; തന്റെ കവചവും അവനെ ഇടുവിച്ചു.
39 David strapped his sword on his clothing, and he tried to move; for he had not tested it. Then David said to Saul, "I can't go with these; for I have not tested them." So they took them off him.
൩൯പടയങ്കിയുടെമേൽ അവന്റെ വാളും കെട്ടി ദാവീദ് നടക്കുവാൻ നോക്കി; എന്നാൽ അവന് അത് പരിചയമില്ലായിരുന്നു; ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടു: “ഞാൻ പരിചയിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഇവ ധരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നടപ്പാൻ എനിക്ക് കഴിയുകയില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, അവയെ ഊരിവെച്ചു.
40 He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his wallet. His sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
൪൦പിന്നെ അവൻ തന്റെ വടി എടുത്തു. തോട്ടിൽനിന്ന് മിനുസമുള്ള അഞ്ച് കല്ലും തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത് തന്റെ സഞ്ചിയിൽ ഇട്ടു. കയ്യിൽ കവിണയുമായി ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോട് അടുത്തു.
41 The Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.
൪൧ഫെലിസ്ത്യനും ദാവീദിനോട് അടുത്തു; പരിചക്കാരനും അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നടന്നു.
42 When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him, for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and handsome in appearance.
൪൨ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ നോക്കി ദാവീദിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവനെ പരിഹസിച്ചു; അവൻ തീരെ ബാലനും പവിഴനിറമുള്ളവനും കോമളരൂപനും ആയിരുന്നു.
43 The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with a stick and stones?" And David said, "No, worse than a dog." And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
൪൩ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ ദാവീദിനോട്: “നീ വടികളുമായി എന്റെ നേരെ വരുവാൻ ഞാൻ നായ് ആണോ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. തന്റെ ദേവന്മാരുടെ നാമം ചൊല്ലി ദാവീദിനെ ശപിച്ചു.
44 The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the field."
൪൪ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ പിന്നെയും ദാവീദിനോട്: “നീ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിന്റെ മാംസം ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികൾക്കും കാട്ടിലെ മൃഗങ്ങൾക്കും ഇരയാക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
45 Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of YHWH of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
൪൫ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: “നീ വാളും കുന്തവും ശൂലവുമായി എന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു; ഞാനോ നീ നിന്ദിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിൽ നിന്റെനേരെ വരുന്നു.
46 Today, YHWH will deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you. And I will give your corpse and the corpses of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
൪൬യഹോവ ഇന്ന് നിന്നെ എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കും; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കൊന്ന് നിന്റെ തല ഛേദിച്ചുകളയും; അത്രയുമല്ല ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ശവങ്ങളെ ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികൾക്കും ഭൂമിയിലെ മൃഗങ്ങൾക്കും ഇരയാക്കും; യിസ്രായേലിൽ ഒരു ദൈവം ഉണ്ടെന്ന് സർവ്വഭൂമിയും അറിയും.
47 and that all this assembly may know that YHWH doesn't save with sword and spear: for the battle is YHWH's, and he will give you into our hand."
൪൭യഹോവ വാൾകൊണ്ടും കുന്തംകൊണ്ടുമല്ല രക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് എന്ന് ഈ ജനമെല്ലാം അറിയുവാൻ ഇടവരും; യുദ്ധം യഹോവക്കുള്ളത്; അവൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും.
48 It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
൪൮പിന്നെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യൻ ദാവീദിനോട് എതിർപ്പാൻ അടുത്തപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് വളരെ തിടുക്കത്തിൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോട് എതിർപ്പാൻ സൈന്യത്തിന് നേരെ ഓടി.
49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
൪൯ദാവീദ് സഞ്ചിയിൽ കയ്യിട്ട് ഒരു കല്ല് എടുത്ത് കവിണയിൽവെച്ച് വീശി ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ നെറ്റിക്ക് എറിഞ്ഞു. കല്ല് അവന്റെ നെറ്റിയിൽ പതിച്ചു;
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
൫൦അവൻ കവിണ്ണുവീണു. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ഒരു കവിണയും ഒരു കല്ലുംകൊണ്ട് ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ ജയിച്ചു, ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ കൊന്നു; എന്നാൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ വാൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
51 Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
൫൧അതുകൊണ്ട് ദാവീദ് ഓടിച്ചെന്നു. ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ പുറത്ത് കയറിനിന്ന്, അവന്റെ വാൾ ഉറയിൽനിന്ന് ഊരിയെടുത്ത് അവന്റെ തലവെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു. തങ്ങളുടെ മല്ലൻ മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്ന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ കണ്ടിട്ട് ഓടിപ്പോയി.
52 The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued them as far as Gath, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
൫൨യിസ്രായേല്യരും യെഹൂദ്യരും പുറപ്പെട്ട് ആർത്തുകൊണ്ട് ഗത്തും എക്രോൻ വാതിലുകളുംവരെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടർന്നു; മുറിവേറ്റ ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ശയരയീമിനുള്ള വഴിയിൽ ഗത്തും എക്രോൻ വാതിലുകളുംവരെ വീണുകിടന്നു.
53 The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
൫൩ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേൽ മക്കൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഓടിക്കുകയും മടങ്ങിവന്ന് അവരുടെ പാളയം കൊള്ളയിടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
54 David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent.
൫൪എന്നാൽ ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ തല എടുത്ത് അതിനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവന്റെ ആയുധങ്ങൾ തന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ചു.
55 When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, "Abner, whose son is this youth?" Abner said, "As your soul lives, O king, I can't tell."
൫൫ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ നേരേ ചെല്ലുന്നത് ശൌല്‍ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ സേനാധിപതിയായ അബ്നേരിനോട്: “അബ്നേരേ, ഈ ബാല്യക്കാരൻ ആരുടെ മകൻ?” എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചതിന് അബ്നേർ: “രാജാവേ, ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
56 The king said, "Inquire whose son the young man is."
൫൬“ഈ ബാല്യക്കാരൻ ആരുടെ മകൻ എന്ന് നീ അന്വേഷിക്കണം” എന്ന് രാജാവ് കല്പിച്ചു.
57 As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
൫൭ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ സംഹരിച്ച് മടങ്ങിവരുമ്പോൾ അബ്നേർ അവനെ ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ തലയും അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
58 Saul said to him, "Whose son are you, you young man?" David answered, "I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."
൫൮ശൌല്‍ അവനോട്: “ബാല്യക്കാരാ, നീ ആരുടെ മകൻ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; “ഞാൻ ബേത്ത്ലഹേമ്യനായ നിന്റെ ദാസൻ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകൻ” എന്ന് ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.
