< Psalms 124 >

1 [A Song of Ascents. By David.] If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, let Israel now say,
Ein song til høgtidsferderne; av David. Hadde ikkje Herren vore med oss, - so segje Israel -
2 if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us;
hadde ikkje Herren vore med oss, då menneskje stod upp imot oss,
3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;
so hadde dei slukt oss livande, då deira vreide loga imot oss,
4 then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul;
so hadde vatni flødt yver oss, ei elv gjenge yver vår sjæl,
5 then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.
so hadde dei gjenge yver vår sjæl, dei storlåtne vatni.
6 Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Lova vere Herren, som ikkje gav oss til åt for deira tenner!
7 Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Vår sjæl slapp undan som ein fugl or fangarsnara. Snara rivna sund, og me slapp undan.
8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
Vår hjelp er i Herrens namn, han som gjorde himmel og jord.
