Numbers 21
1 When the Canaanite king of Arad who lived in the Negev heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.
Cuando el cananeo, el rey de Arad, quien habitaba en el Neguev, oyó que Israel iba por el camino de Atarim, combatió contra Israel y tomó cautivos de él.
2 Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, "If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
Entonces Israel hizo voto a Yavé: Si en verdad entregas a este pueblo en mi mano, yo destruiré por completo sus ciudades.
3 The LORD listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.
Yavé escuchó la voz de Israel y le entregó al cananeo. Los destruyó a ellos y a sus ciudades. Llamó aquel lugar Horma.
4 They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
Salieron de la montaña Hor con dirección al mar Rojo para rodear la tierra de Edom. Pero en el camino el ánimo del pueblo se impacientó.
5 The people spoke against God, and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread."
Entonces el pueblo habló contra ʼElohim y contra Moisés: ¿Por qué nos sacaron de Egipto para morir en el desierto? Pues no hay alimento ni agua, y detestamos esta miserable comida.
6 The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.
Entonces Yavé envió entre el pueblo serpientes ardientes que mordían al pueblo. Murió mucha gente de Israel.
7 The people came to Moses, and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD, and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us." Moses prayed for the people.
El pueblo fue a Moisés y dijeron: Pecamos al hablar contra Yavé y contra ti. ¡Habla con Yavé para que quite de nosotros las serpientes! Y Moisés oró por el pueblo.
8 The LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard: and it shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live."
Yavé dijo a Moisés: Hazte una serpiente ardiente y ponla sobre un asta, y cualquiera que sea mordido y mire a ella, vivirá.
9 Moses made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the standard: and it happened, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of bronze, he lived.
Moisés hizo una serpiente de bronce y la puso sobre un asta. Cuando una serpiente mordía a alguno, miraba a la serpiente de bronce y vivía.
10 The children of Israel traveled, and camped in Oboth.
Salieron los hijos de Israel, y acamparon en Obot.
11 They traveled from Oboth, and camped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.
Salieron de Obot, y acamparon en Ije-Abarim, en el desierto que está frente a Moab hacia el oriente.
12 From there they traveled, and camped in the Valley of Zered.
Salieron de allí y acamparon en el valle de Zared.
13 From there they traveled, and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that comes out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Salieron de allí y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón, que está en el desierto y sale del límite de los amorreos, porque el Arnón es frontera entre Moab y el amorreo.
14 Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, "Waheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,
Por eso se dice en el rollo de las Batallas de Yavé: Lo que hizo en el mar Rojo Y en los arroyos de Arnón,
15 the slope of the valleys that incline toward the dwelling of Ar, leans on the border of Moab."
Y a la corriente de los arroyos Que va a parar en Ar, Y se apoya en la frontera de Moab.
16 From there they traveled to Beer: that is the well of which the LORD said to Moses, "Gather the people together, and I will give them water."
Y desde allí a Beer. Este es el pozo donde Yavé dijo a Moisés: Reúne al pueblo, y les daré agua.
17 Then sang Israel this song: "Spring up, well; sing to it:
Entonces Israel cantó este cántico: ¡Brota, oh pozo! ¡Cántenle!
18 the well, which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, and with their staffs." From the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;
Pozo cavado por nobles, Excavado por los jefes del pueblo, Con sus cetros de legislador. Y del desierto viajaron a Matana.
19 and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;
De Matana a Nahaliel, de Nahaliel a Bamot,
20 and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.
y de Bamot al valle que está en el campo de Moab, a la cumbre de la montaña Pisga, que mira hacia el desierto.
21 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
Entonces Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, y dijo:
22 "Let me pass through your land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, until we have passed your border."
Pasaré por tu tierra. No nos desviaremos hacia el campo ni hacia las viñas. No beberemos las aguas de los pozos. Iremos por el camino real hasta que pasemos tu territorio.
23 Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.
Pero Sehón no permitió que Israel pasara por su territorio, sino Sehón reunió a todo su pueblo. Salió a enfrentarse a Israel en el desierto. Fue a Jahaza y combatió contra Israel.
24 Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the people of Ammon; for the border of the people of Ammon was strong.
Pero Israel lo venció a filo de espada y tomó su tierra desde Arnón hasta Jaboc, hasta los hijos de Amón, pues la frontera de los amonitas estaba fortificada.
25 Israel took all these cities: and Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its towns.
Israel tomó todas estas ciudades, e Israel vivió en todas las ciudades de los amorreos, en Hesbón y en todas sus aldeas,
26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.
porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el cual guerreó contra el rey anterior de Moab, y tomó de su poder toda su tierra hasta el Arnón.
27 Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, "Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;
Por eso los proverbistas dicen: Vengan a Hesbón. Edifíquese y repárese la ciudad de Sehón.
28 for a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, swallowed up the high places of the Arnon.
Porque salió fuego de Hesbón, Y una llama de la plaza fuerte de Sehón Que consumió a Ar de Moab, A los señores de las alturas del Arnón.
29 Woe to you, Moab. You are undone, people of Chemosh. He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.
¡Ay de ti, Moab! Eres destruido, oh pueblo de Quemos, El cual entregó sus hijos a la fuga Y sus hijas al cautiverio, A Sehón, rey amorreo.
30 And we shot at them. Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. And we have laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba."
Pero nosotros los arrojamos. Hesbón está destruido hasta Dibón, Y también desolamos hasta Nofa, Que está junto a Medeba.
31 Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
Así Israel vivió en la tierra de los amorreos.
32 Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took its towns, and drove out the Amorites who were there.
Después Moisés envió a espiar a Jazer. Sitiaron sus aldeas y desposeyeron a los amorreos que estaban allí.
33 They turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
Se volvieron y subieron por el camino de Basán. Y salió contra ellos Og, rey de Basán, él y todo su pueblo, a combatir en Edrei.
34 The LORD said to Moses, "Do not fear him: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."
Pero Yavé dijo a Moisés: No le temas, porque en tu mano lo entregué, a él, a todo su pueblo y su tierra. Harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón.
35 So they struck him, and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him remaining: and they possessed his land.
Y lo destruyeron a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo, sin que le quedara un sobreviviente, y conquistaron su tierra.
