Matthew 16
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
ファリサイ人たちとサドカイ人たちがやって来て，彼を試そうとして，天からのしるしを見せるようにと彼に求めた。
2 But he answered and said to them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'
しかし，彼は彼らに答えた，「あなた方は，夕方になると，『晴天になるだろう，空が赤いから』と言う。
3 In the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
朝には，『今日は荒れ模様だろう，空が赤くてどんよりとしているから』と言う。偽善者たち！ あなた方は空模様の見分け方は知っていながら，時のしるしは見分けられないのだ！
4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of Jonah." He left them, and departed.
悪い姦淫の世代はしるしを求めるが，預言者ヨナのしるしのほかには何のしるしも与えられないだろう」 。 彼は彼らを残して去って行った。
5 The disciples came to the other side and had forgotten to take bread.
弟子たちは向こう岸に行ったが，パンを持って来るのを忘れた。
6 Jesus said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
イエスは彼らに言った，「ファリサイ人たちとサドカイ人たちのパン種に注意し，用心しなさい」 。
7 They reasoned among themselves, saying, "We brought no bread."
彼らは互いに論じ合って言った，「我々はパンを持って来なかった」。
8 But Jesus, becoming aware of this, said, "You of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves about having no bread?
それに気づいて，イエスは言った，「なぜあなた方は，『パンを持っていないからだ』などと互いに論じ合っているのか，信仰の少ない者たちよ。
9 Do you still not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
まだ気づかないのか。覚えていないのか。五千人のための五つのパン，そしてあなた方が幾つのかごに拾い集めたかを。
10 Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
また，四千人のための七つのパン，そしてあなた方が幾つのかごに拾い集めたかを。
11 Why is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
あなた方にパンについて話したのではないことが，どうして分からないのか。ただ，ファリサイ人たちとサドカイ人たちのパン種に用心しなさい」 。
12 Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
その時，彼らは，イエスが自分たちに用心するように言ったのは，パンのパン種のことではなく，ファリサイ人たちとサドカイ人たちの教えのことだと理解した。
13 Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
さて，イエスは，カエサレア・フィリピ地帯に入ると，弟子たちに尋ねて言った，「人々は，わたし，人の子をだれだと言っているか」。
14 They said, "Some say John the Baptist, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
彼らは言った，「ある者たちはバプテスマを施す人ヨハネ，ある者たちはエリヤ，ほかの者たちはエレミヤか預言者たちの一人だと言っています」。
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
彼は彼らに言った，「だが，あなた方はわたしをだれだと言うのか」。
16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
シモン・ペトロが答えた，「あなたはキリスト，生ける神の子です」。
17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
イエスは彼に言った，「シモン・バルヨナ，あなたは幸いだ。あなたにこのことを明らかにしたのは肉と血ではなく，天におられるわたしの父だからだ。
18 I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this Rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. (Hadēs g86)
わたしもあなたに告げるが，あなたはペトロであり，この岩の上にわたしは自分の集会を建てる。ハデスの門もそれに打ち勝たない。 (Hadēs g86)
19 I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
わたしはあなたに天の王国のかぎを与えよう。そして，あなたが地上で縛るものは天でも縛られ，あなたが地上で解くものは天でも解かれるだろう」 。
20 Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he is the Messiah.
それから，自分がキリストだということをだれにも告げないようにと弟子たちに命じた。
21 From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
その時以後，イエスは，自分がエルサレムに行き，長老たちや祭司長たちや律法学者たちから多くの苦しみを受け，かつ殺され，そして三日後に起こされなければならないことを，弟子たちに示し始めた。
22 Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord. This will never be done to you."
ペトロは彼をわきに連れて行き，彼をしかり始めて言った，「主よ，とんでもありません！ あなたには決してそんなことは起きないでしょう」。
23 But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan. You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of humans."
しかし，彼は背を向けてペトロに言った。「わたしの後ろに下がれ，サタンよ！ あなたはわたしのつまづきの石だ。あなたは神の物事ではなく，人間の物事を考えているからだ」 。
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
それからイエスは弟子たちに言った，「だれでもわたしに付いて来たいと思うなら，その人は自分を否定し，自分の十字架を取り上げて，わたしに従いなさい。
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
自分の命を救おうと思う者はそれを失うことになり，わたしのために自分の命を失う者はそれを見いだすことになるからだ。
26 For what will it profit a person, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a person give in exchange for his life?
というのも，人が全世界を手に入れても，自分の命を失うなら，何の益になるだろうか。人は自分の命と引き換えにいったい何を支払うというのか。
27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds.
人の子は，自分の父の栄光のうちに自分の使いたちと共に来るが，その時，彼はすべての人にその行ないに従って報いるのだ。
28 Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."
本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。ここに立っている者の中には，人の子が自分の王国のうちに来るのを見るまでは決して死を味わわない者たちがいる」 。
