Hebrews 7
1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
Melquisedec fue rey de Salem y sacerdote del Dios Supremo. Conoció a Abraham, quien venía de regreso después de haber derrotado a los reyes, y lo bendijo.
2 to whom also Abraham divided "a tenth part of everything" (being first, by interpretation, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace;
Y Abraham le dio diezmo de todo lo que había ganado. El nombre Melquisedec significa “rey de justicia” mientras que el rey de Salem significa “rey de paz”.
3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.
No tenemos información sobre su padre o su madre, o sobre su genealogía. No sabemos cuándo nació ni cuándo murió. Así como el Hijo de Dios, sigue siendo sacerdote para siempre.
4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the most valuable plunder.
Consideremos la grandeza de este hombre ante los ojos de Abraham, el patriarca, que incluso le entregó diezmo de lo que había ganado en la batalla.
5 They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the Law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the body of Abraham,
Sí, pues los hijos de Leví, que son sacerdotes, tienen mandato por la ley de recibir diezmo del pueblo, que son sus hermanos y hermanas, y que son descendientes de Abraham.
6 but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has accepted tithes from Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.
Pero Melquisedec, sin pertenecer a esta descendencia, recibió diezmos de Abraham, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas de Dios.
7 But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater.
No existe duda de que quien recibe bendición es inferior a quien bendice.
8 Here people who die receive tithes, but there one receives tithes of whom it is testified that he lives.
En el primer caso, los que reciben el diezmo son hombres mortales, pero en el otro caso, se dice que los recibió uno que sigue viviendo.
9 We can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,
Entonces podríamos decir que Leví, el que recibe los diezmos, ha pagado diezmos por ser descendiente de Abraham,
10 for he was yet in the body of his father when Melchizedek met him.
pues aún no había nacido de su padre cuando Melquisedec conoció a Abraham.
11 Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Ahora, si hubiera sido posible lograr la perfección por el sacerdocio de Leví (pues así fue como se recibió la ley), ¿Por qué había necesidad de otro sacerdote que siguiera el orden de Melquisedec, y no del orden de Aarón?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.
Si se cambia el sacerdocio, la ley necesitaría cambiarse también.
13 For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.
Pero este de quien hablamos viene de otra tribu, una tribu que nunca ha provisto sacerdotes que sirvan en el altar.
14 For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
Está claro que nuestro Señor es descendiente de Judá, y Moisés nunca hizo mención sobre sacerdotes que provinieran de esta tribu.
15 This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,
Y esto queda aún más claro cuando vemos que aparece otro sacerdote similar a Melquisedec,
16 who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:
que no llegó al sacerdocio por virtud de su ascendencia, sino por el poder de una vida que no puede ser destruida.
17 for it is testified, "You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek." (aiōn g165)
Por eso dice: “Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, conforme al orden de Melquisedec”. (aiōn g165)
18 For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
De modo que la norma anterior ha sido anulada porque era débil e inútil,
19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
(porque la ley nunca perfeccionó nada). Pero ahora ha sido reemplazada por una esperanza mejor, por la cual podemos acercarnos a Dios.
20 Inasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath,
Esto no se hizo sin un juramento, aunque los que se convierten en sacerdotes lo hacen con un juramento.
21 for they indeed have been made priests without an oath, but he with an oath by him that says of him, "The Lord swore and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.'" (aiōn g165)
Pero él se convirtió en sacerdote con un juramento porque Dios le dijo: “El Señor ha hecho un juramento solemne y no cambiará de opinión: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre”. (aiōn g165)
22 Accordingly Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
Es así como Jesús se convirtió en la garantía de un acuerdo de una relación con Dios que es mucho mejor.
23 Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.
Ha habido muchos sacerdotes porque la muerte les impidió continuar su sacerdocio;
pero como Jesús vive para siempre, su sacerdocio es permanente. (aiōn g165)
25 Therefore he is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.
En consecuencia, tiene el poder para salvar por completo a los que se acercan a Dios por medio de él, viviendo siempre para rogar su caso a favor de ellos.
26 For such a high priest was indeed fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Él es justamente el sumo sacerdote que necesitamos: santo y sin falta, puro y apartado de los pecadores, y con un lugar en lo más alto de los cielos.
27 who does not need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself.
A diferencia de los sumos sacerdotes humanos, él no necesita ofrecer sacrificios diarios por sus pecados y los de las personas. Él lo hizo una vez, y por todos, cuando se dio a sí mismo como ofrenda.
28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected. (aiōn g165)
La ley designa hombres imperfectos como sumos sacerdotes, pero después de la ley, Dios hizo un juramento solemne, y designó a su hijo, que es perfecto para siempre. (aiōn g165)
