Acts 8
1 Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the church which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
サウロは彼の死刑に同意していた。その日，エルサレムにあった集会に対して激しい迫害が起こった。使徒たちのほかは皆，ユダヤとサマリアの地方全域に散らされていった。
2 Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.
敬けんな人々はステファノを葬り，彼のために大いに嘆いた。
3 But Saul ravaged the church, entering into every house, and dragged both men and women off to prison.
一方，サウロは集会を荒らそうとして，すべての家に押し入り，男も女も引きずり出してはろうやに引き渡した。
4 Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around proclaiming the word.
それで，各地に散らされた人たちは，み言葉を宣教しながら巡回した。
5 And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Messiah.
フィリポはサマリアの町に下って行き，人々にキリストを宣明した。
6 The crowds listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
群衆は，フィリポが行なったしるしを見聞きすると，彼の語る事柄に心を合わせて聞き従った。
7 For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
汚れた霊が取り付いていた多くの者から，それらが出て来たからである。それらは大声で叫びながら出て来た。体がまひした人や足の不自由な人が大勢いやされた。
8 There was great joy in that city.
この町には大きな喜びが起こった。
9 But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
ところで，そこにはある人がいたが，名をシモンといい，その町で以前から魔術を行なってサマリアの人々を驚かせ，自分を何か偉い者のように見せかけていた。
10 to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that power of God which is called Great."
最も小さな者から最も大きな者に至るまで，みんなが彼に聞き従い，「この人は神の偉大な力だ」と言っていた。
11 They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
人々が彼に聞き従ったのは，彼が長い間，その魔術によって人々を驚かせてきたためであった。
12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus (the) Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.
ところが，人々は，神の王国とイエス・キリストの名についての良いたよりを宣教するフィリポを信じた時，男も女もバプテスマを受けた。
13 Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.
シモン自身もバプテスマを受けた。彼はバプテスマを受けると，いつもフィリポに伴っていた。しるしや大きな奇跡が起きるのを見て，驚いていた。
14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
さて，エルサレムにいた使徒たちは，サマリアが神の言葉を受け入れたと聞くと，ペトロとヨハネを彼らのもとに遣わした。
15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
二人は下って行き，彼らが聖霊を受けるようにと彼らのために祈った。
16 for he had not yet fallen upon any of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
それがまだ彼らの中のだれにも下っていなかったからである。彼らは，ただキリスト・イエスの名においてバプテスマを受けていただけであった。
17 Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
それで，二人が彼らの上に手を置くと，彼らは聖霊を受けた。
18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
その時，シモンは，使徒たちが手を置くことによって聖霊が与えられるのを見ると，二人にお金を差し出して
19 saying, "Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."
言った，「わたしにもこの力を下さって，だれでもわたしが手を置く人が聖霊を受けられるようにしてください」。
20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money.
しかしペトロは彼に言った，「あなたの銀はあなたと共に滅びてしまうがよい。あなたは神の贈り物をお金で得られると考えたからだ！
21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
あなたはこの事において受け分も分け前も持っていない。あなたの心が神の前にまっすぐでないからだ。
22 Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask the Lord if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
だから，この悪事を悔い改め，神に請い求めなさい。そうすれば，あなたの心の思いが許されることになるかも知れない。
23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."
あなたが苦い胆汁と不法の束縛との中にいるのが，わたしには見えるからだ」。
24 Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me."
シモンは答えた，「皆さん，わたしのために主に祈ってください。あなた方の言われたことが何一つわたしに起こらないようにするためです」。
25 They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
このようにして，二人は証言して主の言葉を語ってから，エルサレムに引き返し，サマリア人の多くの村に福音を宣教した。
26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert."
一方，主のみ使いがフィリポに語りかけて，こう言った。「立って，南の方へ行き，エルサレムからガザに下る道に出なさい。そこは砂漠の道だ」。
27 And he arose and went. And look, there was a man from Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Kandake, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge over all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship,
彼は立って出かけて行った。すると見よ，一人のエチオピア人がいた。エチオピア人の女王カンダケのもとで大きな権力を持つ宦官で，彼女の全財宝を管理していたが，礼拝のためにエルサレムに来ていた。
28 and he was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
その帰りに，自分の戦車の中に座り，預言者イザヤを朗読していた。
29 And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go and join up with that chariot."
霊がフィリポに言った，「近寄って，あの戦車と一緒に行きなさい」。
30 And running near, Philip heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
フィリポは走り寄り，彼が預言者イザヤを朗読しているのを聞いて，こう言った。「読んでいることが分かりますか」。
31 He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
彼は言った，「だれかが説明してくれなければ，どうして分かるでしょうか」。そして，上がって来て自分と一緒に座ってくれるよう，フィリポに頼んだ。
32 Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth.
ところで，彼が朗読していた聖書の箇所は，次のとおりであった。 「彼は羊のようにほふり場に引かれて行った。毛を刈る者の前で黙っている子羊のように，その口を開かない。
33 In his humiliation his justice was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth."
辱めを受け，その裁きは取り去られた。だれがその子孫のことを語るだろうか。その命は地から取り去られるからだ」。
34 The eunuch answered Philip, "Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?"
宦官はフィリポに答えた，「この預言者はだれについて語っているのでしょうか。自分自身についてですか。それともだれかほかの人についてですか」。
35 Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus.
フィリポは口を開き，この聖句から始めて，彼にイエスのことを宣教した。
36 As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?"
彼らが進んで行くと，水のある所に来た。そこで宦官は言った，「ご覧ください，ここに水があります。わたしがバプテスマを受けるのに何の妨げがあるでしょうか」。
37 And he said to him, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus (the) Messiah is the Son of God."
38 He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
彼は戦車に止まるよう命じた。そして，フィリポと宦官は二人とも水の中に下りて行き，フィリポは彼にバプテスマを施した。
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
二人が水から上がると，主の霊がフィリポを連れ去ったので，宦官はもはや彼を見なかったが，喜びながら自分の道を進んで行った。
40 But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.
一方，フィリポはアゾトスに現われた。すべての町々を通り抜けながら，福音を宣教し，ついにカエサレアに着いた。
