1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
Ueber die Zeiten und Fristen aber, Brüder, habt ihr nicht nötig euch schreiben zu lassen;
2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
ihr wisset selbst zu gut, daß der Tag des Herrn kommt, wie ein Dieb in der Nacht.
3 Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
Wenn sie von Friede und Sicherheit reden, dann kommt das Verderben plötzlich über sie, wie die Wehen über die Schwangere; und sie können nicht entfliehen.
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
Ihr aber, Brüder, seid nicht im Dunkeln, daß euch der Tag überfalle, wie der Dieb.
5 You are all sons of light, and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night, nor to darkness,
Seid ihr doch allesamt Söhne des Lichtes, Söhne des Tages; nicht der Nacht gehören wir, nicht der Finsternis;
6 so then let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober.
so lasset uns denn nicht schlafen, wie die anderen, sondern wachen und nüchtern sein.
7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
Die da schlafen, schlafen bei Nacht, und die da trunken sind, sind bei Nacht trunken;
8 But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
uns aber lasset nüchtern sein, weil wir dem Tag angehören, angethan mit dem Panzer des Glaubens und der Liebe und dem Helm der Heilshoffnung,
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus (the) Messiah,
weil uns Gott nicht gesetzt hat zum Zorn, sondern zum Erwerbe des Heils durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus,
10 who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
der für uns gestorben ist, auf daß wir, wir wachen oder schlafen, samt ihm leben.
11 Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
Darum ermahnt euch unter einander, und erbaut einer den anderen; ihr thut es ja schon.
12 But we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
Wir bitten euch aber, Brüder, daß ihr anerkennet diejenigen, welche bei euch die Geschäfte besorgen, und euch vorstehen im Herrn, und euch ermahnen,
13 and to respect and honor them in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
und sie recht hoch haltet in Liebe um ihres Werkes willen. Lebet im Frieden mit einander.
14 We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
Euch aber, Brüder, mahnen wir: warnet die Unordentlichen, tröstet die Kleinmütigen, nehmt euch der Schwachen an, habt Geduld mit allen,
15 See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always seek what is good both for each other and for all.
sehet zu, daß keiner Böses mit Bösem vergelte, trachtet vielmehr allezeit Gutes zu thun unter einander und gegen alle.
16 Rejoice always.
Freuet euch allezeit,
17 Pray without ceasing.
betet ohne Unterlaß,
18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Messiah Jesus toward you.
danksaget bei allem. Denn das ist Gottes Wille in Christus Jesus über euch.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Löschet den Geist nicht,
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt,
verachtet die Prophetie nicht.
21 but test all things; hold firmly that which is good.
Prüfet alles, behaltet das Gute.
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
Meidet alle böse Art.
23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus (the) Messiah.
Er aber, der Gott des Friedens, heilige euch durch und durch, und euer Geist unversehrt, und die Seele und der Leib werde bewahrt ohne Tadel bei der Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.
24 He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
Treu ist der, der euch beruft; er wird es auch ausführen.
25 Brothers, pray for us also.
Betet für uns Brüder.
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
Grüßet die Brüder alle mit dem heiligen Kuß.
27 I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
Ich beschwöre euch bei dem Herrn, diesen Brief den Brüdern allen vorlesen zu lassen.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus (the) Messiah be with you.
Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus Christus mit euch.
