Numbers 35
1 Jehovah spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,
エリコに近いヨルダンのほとりのモアブの平野で、主はモーセに言われた、
2 "Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and you shall give suburbs for the cities around them to the Levites.
「イスラエルの人々に命じて、その獲た嗣業のうちから、レビびとに住むべき町々を与えさせなさい。また、あなたがたは、その町々の周囲の放牧地をレビびとに与えなければならない。
3 The cities shall they have to dwell in; and their suburbs shall be for their livestock, and for their substance, and for all their animals.
その町々は彼らの住む所、その放牧地は彼らの家畜と群れ、およびすべての獣のためである。
4 "The suburbs of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand seven hundred twenty-two feet six inches around it.
あなたがたがレビびとに与える町々の放牧地は、町の石がきから一千キュビトの周囲としなければならない。
5 You shall measure outside of the city for the east side three thousand four hundred forty-five feet, and for the south side three thousand four hundred forty-five feet, and for the west side three thousand four hundred forty-five feet, and for the north side three thousand four hundred forty-five feet, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
あなたがたは町の外で東側に二千キュビト、南側に二千キュビト、西側に二千キュビト、北側に二千キュビトを計り、町はその中央にしなければならない。彼らの町の放牧地はこのようにしなければならない。
6 "The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to: and besides them you shall give forty-two cities.
あなたがたがレビびとに与える町々は六つで、のがれの町とし、人を殺した者がのがれる所としなければならない。なおこのほかに四十二の町を与えなければならない。
7 All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their suburbs.
すなわちあなたがたがレビびとに与える町は合わせて四十八で、これをその放牧地と共に与えなければならない。
8 Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many; and from the few you shall take few: everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give of his cities to the Levites."
あなたがたがイスラエルの人々の所有のうちからレビびとに町々を与えるには、大きい部族からは多く取り、小さい部族からは少なく取り、おのおの受ける嗣業にしたがって、その町々をレビびとに与えなければならない」。
9 Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
主はモーセに言われた、
10 "Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
「イスラエルの人々に言いなさい。あなたがたがヨルダンを渡ってカナンの地にはいるときは、
11 then you shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
あなたがたのために町を選んで、のがれの町とし、あやまって人を殺した者を、そこにのがれさせなければならない。
12 The cities shall be to you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer not die, until he stands before the congregation for judgment.
これはあなたがたが復讐する者を避けてのがれる町であって、人を殺した者が会衆の前に立って、さばきを受けないうちに、殺されることのないためである。
13 The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.
あなたがたが与える町々のうち、六つをのがれの町としなければならない。
14 You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.
すなわちヨルダンのかなたで三つの町を与え、カナンの地で三つの町を与えて、のがれの町としなければならない。
15 For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the foreigner living among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
これらの六つの町は、イスラエルの人々と、他国の人および寄留者のために、のがれの場所としなければならない。すべてあやまって人を殺した者が、そこにのがれるためである。
16 "'But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
もし人が鉄の器で、人を打って死なせたならば、その人は故殺人である。故殺人は必ず殺されなければならない。
17 If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
またもし人を殺せるほどの石を取って、人を打って死なせたならば、その人は故殺人である。故殺人は必ず殺されなければならない。
18 Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
あるいは人を殺せるほどの木の器を取って、人を打って死なせたならば、その人は故殺人である。故殺人は必ず殺されなければならない。
19 The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death: when he meets him, he shall put him to death.
血の復讐をする者は、自分でその故殺人を殺すことができる。すなわち彼に出会うとき、彼を殺すことができる。
20 If he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died,
またもし恨みのために人を突き、あるいは故意に人に物を投げつけて死なせ、
21 or in enmity struck him with his hand, so that he died; he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer, the murderer must surely be put to death; the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.
あるいは恨みによって手で人を打って死なせたならば、その打った者は必ず殺されなければならない。彼は故殺人だからである。血の復讐をする者は、その故殺人に出会うとき殺すことができる。
22 "'But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,
しかし、もし恨みもないのに思わず人を突き、または、なにごころなく人に物を投げつけ、
23 or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;
あるいは人のいるのも見ずに、人を殺せるほどの石を投げつけて死なせた場合、その人がその敵でもなく、また害を加えようとしたのでもない時は、
24 then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances;
会衆はこれらのおきてによって、その人を殺した者と、血の復讐をする者との間をさばかなければならない。
25 and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he was fled: and he shall dwell in it until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
すなわち会衆はその人を殺した者を血の復讐をする者の手から救い出して、逃げて行ったのがれの町に返さなければならない。その者は聖なる油を注がれた大祭司の死ぬまで、そこにいなければならない。
26 "'But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, where he flees,
しかし、もし人を殺した者が、その逃げて行ったのがれの町の境を出た場合、
27 and the avenger of blood find him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kill the manslayer; he shall not be guilty of blood,
血の復讐をする者は、のがれの町の境の外で、これに出会い、血の復讐をする者が、その人を殺した者を殺しても、彼には血を流した罪はない。
28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession.
彼は大祭司の死ぬまで、そののがれの町におるべきものだからである。大祭司の死んだ後は、人を殺した者は自分の所有の地にかえることができる。
29 "'These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
これらのことはすべてあなたがたの住む所で、代々あなたがたのためのおきての定めとしなければならない。
30 "'Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.
人を殺した者、すなわち故殺人はすべて証人の証言にしたがって殺されなければならない。しかし、だれもただひとりの証言によって殺されることはない。
31 "'Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.
あなたがたは死に当る罪を犯した故殺人の命のあがないしろを取ってはならない。彼は必ず殺されなければならない。
32 "'You shall take no ransom for him who is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
また、のがれの町にのがれた者のために、あがないしろを取って大祭司の死ぬ前に彼を自分の地に帰り住まわせてはならない。
33 "'So you shall not pollute the land in which you are: for blood, it pollutes the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.
あなたがたはそのおる所の地を汚してはならない。流血は地を汚すからである。地の上に流された血は、それを流した者の血によらなければあがなうことができない。
34 You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I, Jehovah, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.'"
あなたがたは、その住む所の地、すなわちわたしのおる地を汚してはならない。主なるわたしがイスラエルの人々のうちに住んでいるからである」。
