Nehemiah 8
1 All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the square that was before the Water Gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the scroll of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel.
Todo el pueblo se reunió como un solo hombre en el lugar amplio que estaba frente a la puerta de las aguas, y hablaron a Esdras el escriba para que trajera el libro de la ley de Moisés, que Yahvé había ordenado a Israel.
2 Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.
El sacerdote Esdras trajo la ley ante la asamblea, tanto de hombres como de mujeres, y de todos los que podían oír con entendimiento, el primer día del mes séptimo.
3 And he read it before the square that was before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the scroll of the law.
Leyó de ella ante el lugar amplio que estaba frente a la puerta de las aguas, desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, en presencia de los hombres y de las mujeres, y de los que podían entender. Los oídos de todo el pueblo estaban atentos al libro de la ley.
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Esdras, el escriba, estaba de pie sobre un púlpito de madera que habían hecho al efecto; y junto a él estaban Matatías, Sema, Anáías, Urías, Hilcías y Maasías, a su derecha; y a su izquierda, Pedaías, Misael, Malquías, Hasum, Hasbaddana, Zacarías y Mesulam.
5 Ezra opened the scroll in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people; ) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
Esdras abrió el libro a la vista de todo el pueblo (porque él estaba por encima de todo el pueblo), y cuando lo abrió, todo el pueblo se puso de pie.
6 and Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God. All the people answered, "Amen, Amen," with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped Jehovah with their faces to the ground.
Entonces Esdras bendijo a Yahvé, el gran Dios. Todo el pueblo respondió: “Amén, Amén”, levantando las manos. Inclinaron la cabeza y adoraron a Yahvé con el rostro en tierra.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, explained the law to the people, and the people stayed in their place.
También Jesúa, Baní, Serebías, Jamín, Acub, Sabetai, Hodías, Maasías, Kelita, Azarías, Jozabad, Hanán, Pelaías y los levitas, hicieron que el pueblo entendiera la ley; y el pueblo permaneció en su lugar.
8 They read in the scroll, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
Leían en el libro, en la ley de Dios, claramente; y daban el sentido, de modo que entendían la lectura.
9 Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, "This day is holy to Jehovah your God. Do not mourn, nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehemías, que era el gobernador, el sacerdote y escriba Esdras, y los levitas que enseñaban al pueblo, dijeron a todo el pueblo: “Hoy es un día santo para Yahvé, vuestro Dios. No os lamentéis ni lloréis”. Porque todo el pueblo lloró al oír las palabras de la ley.
10 Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved; for the joy of Jehovah is your strength."
Luego les dijo: “Vayan. Coman la grasa, beban lo dulce y envíen porciones a quien no tiene nada preparado, porque hoy es santo para nuestro Señor. No os entristezcáis, porque la alegría de Yahvé es vuestra fuerza”.
11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, "Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be grieved."
Entonces los levitas calmaron a todo el pueblo, diciendo: “Callad, porque el día es sagrado. No se aflijan”.
12 All the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
Todo el pueblo siguió su camino para comer, beber, enviar porciones y celebrar, porque habían entendido las palabras que se les habían declarado.
13 On the second day were gathered together the heads of ancestral houses of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law.
Al segundo día, los jefes de familia de todo el pueblo, los sacerdotes y los levitas se reunieron con Esdras, el escriba, para estudiar las palabras de la ley.
14 They found written in the law, how that Jehovah had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;
Encontraron escrito en la ley cómo Yahvé había ordenado por medio de Moisés que los hijos de Israel debían habitar en cabañas en la fiesta del séptimo mes;
15 and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written."
y que debían publicar y proclamar en todas sus ciudades y en Jerusalén, diciendo: “Salgan al monte y traigan ramas de olivo, ramas de olivo silvestre, ramas de mirto, ramas de palmeras y ramas de árboles frondosos, para hacer refugios temporales, como está escrito.”
16 So the people went out, and brought them, and made themselves booths, everyone on the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of God's house, and in the broad place of the Water Gate, and in the broad place of the Ephraim Gate.
Así que el pueblo salió y los trajo, y se hicieron refugios temporales, cada uno en el techo de su casa, en sus patios, en los patios de la casa de Dios, en el lugar ancho de la puerta de las aguas y en el lugar ancho de la puerta de Efraín.
17 All the assembly of those who had come again out of the captivity made booths, and lived in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.
Toda la asamblea de los que habían regresado del cautiverio hizo refugios temporales y vivió en los refugios temporales, pues desde los días de Josué hijo de Nun hasta ese día los hijos de Israel no lo habían hecho. Hubo una alegría muy grande.
18 Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the scroll of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
Además, cada día, desde el primero hasta el último, se leía en el libro de la ley de Dios. Celebraron la fiesta durante siete días; y el octavo día hubo una asamblea solemne, según la ordenanza.
