Job 31
1 "I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?
Szövetséget kötöttem szemeimmel, hogyan vetnék hát ügyet hajadonra?
2 For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from Shaddai on high?
Hisz mely osztályrész jut Istentől felülről s mely örökség a Mindenhatótól a magasból?
3 Is it not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for evildoers?
Nemde balsors a jogtalannak s viszontagság a gonosztevőknek.
4 Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps?
Nemde ő látja útaimat s mind a lépéseimet megszámlálja!
5 "If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit
Ha hamissággal jártam és csalárdságra sietett a lábam –
6 (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);
mérjen meg engem igaz serpenyőn s tudja meg Isten gáncstalanságomat –
7 if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,
ha léptem elhajolt az útról és szemeim után járt a szívem, kezeimhez hiba tapadt:
8 then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.
hadd vessek és más egyék, és sarjaim tépessenek ki gyökerestül!
9 "If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door,
Ha szívem elcsábíttatta magát asszony miatt, felebarátom ajtaján leskelődtem:
10 then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.
másnak őröljön a feleségem és mások hajoljanak reá;
11 For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:
mert gazság az, s bírák elé való bűn az,
12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.
mert tűz az, mely az enyészetig emészt, s minden termésemet gyökerestül tépi ki!
13 "If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;
Ha megvetettem szolgám és szolgálóm jogát, mikor pöröltek velem –
14 What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?
hiszen mit teszek majd, midőn Isten fölkel s midőn számon kér, mit felelek neki,
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb?
hiszen az anyaméhben ki engem alkotott, alkotta őt és Egy formált minket a méhben –
16 "If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
ha megvontam a kívántat a szegényektől s az özvegy szemeit epesztettem,
17 or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
s én egyedül ettem falatomat s árva nem evett belőle
18 (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb);
– hisz ifjúkorom óta nálam nőtt fel, mint atyánál, s mint anyám méhéből valót úgy vezettem -;
19 if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;
ha láttam bujdosót öltözet nélkül s takarója nincs a szűkölködőnek,
20 if his heart hasn't blessed me, if he hasn't been warmed with my sheep's fleece;
ha nem áldottak engem ágyékai s bárányaim nyíretéből fel nem melegedett;
21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,
ha fölemeltem kezemet az árvára, midőn a kapuban láttam segítségemet:
22 then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.
vállam essék ki a lapoczkájából és törjék el karom a szárából;
23 For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing.
mert rettenet nekem az Istentől való balsors, s fensége miatt nem tehetném!
24 "If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;'
Ha aranyat tettem bizalmammá és a színaranyat mondtam bizodalmamnak;
25 If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
ha örültem, hogy nagy a vagyonom s hogy sokat ért el kezem;
26 if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,
ha láttam a napvilágot, hogy ragyog, s a holdat, a mint dicsőn halad,
27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,
és szívem elcsábult titokban és kezem csókra nyúlt a szájamhoz:
28 this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.
az is bíró elé való bűn, mert megtagadtam volna Istent felülről!
29 "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;
Ha örültem gyűlölőm elesésén s felbuzdultam, midőn baj érte –
30 (yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);
hisz nem engedtem ínyemet, hogy vétkezzen, hogy átokkal kérjem lelkét -;
31 if the men of my tent have not said, 'Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?'
ha nem mondták sátram emberei: bár volna, ki húsából nem lakott jól
32 (the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);
az utczán nem hált meg jövevény, az út felé tártam ki ajtaimat -;
33 if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,
ha emberek módjára takargattam bűntetteimet, keblemre rejtve bűnömet,
34 because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door?
mert rettegtem a nagy tömegtől s megijesztett a családok gúnyja, úgy hogy csendben voltam, nem mentem ki a kapun!
35 oh that I had one to hear me. (look, here is my signature, let Shaddai answer me); let the accuser write my indictment.
Vajha volna, ki rám hallgatna – íme jegyem, feleljen nekem a Mindenható – és a vádlevél, melyet írt a pörös felem:
36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown.
bizony, vállamon hordanám azt, felfűzném koszorúnak magamra,
37 I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.
lépéseim számát bevallanám neki, akár egy fejedelem közeledném hozzá!
38 If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;
Ha ellenem kiáltott földem s egyaránt sírtak barázdái;
39 if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,
ha erejét emésztettem pénz nélkül és gazdájával kileheltettem lelkét:
40 let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.
búza helyett sarjadjon bogáncs, és árpa helyett gazfű! Vége Jób beszédeinek.
