Jeremiah 9
1 Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a spring of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people.
Oxalá a minha cabeça se tornasse em águas, e os meus olhos numa fonte de lágrimas! então choraria de dia e de noite os mortos da filha do meu povo.
2 Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them. For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men."
Oxalá tivesse no deserto uma estalagem de caminhantes! então deixaria o meu povo, e me apartaria dele, porque todos eles são adúlteros, e um bando de aleivosos.
3 "They bend their tongue as a bow. Falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me," says Jehovah.
E estendem a sua língua como o seu arco, para mentira; fortalecem-se na terra, porém não para verdade; porque se avançam de malícia em malícia, e a mim me não conhecem, diz o Senhor.
4 "Everyone be on guard against his neighbor, and do not trust any brother; for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor will go about with slanders.
Guardai-vos cada um do seu amigo, e de irmão nenhum vos fieis; porque todo o irmão não faz mais do que enganar, e todo o amigo anda caluniando.
5 Everyone deceives his neighbor, and does not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies; they do evil, they do not cease so as to return.
E zombará cada um do seu amigo, e não falam a verdade: ensinam a sua língua a falar a mentira, andam-se cançando em obrar perversamente.
6 Oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit. They refuse to know me," says Jehovah.
A tua habitação está no meio do engano: com engano recusam conhecer-me, diz o Senhor.
7 Therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts, "Look, I will melt them, and try them; for how should I deal with the wickedness of the daughter of my people?
Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Eis que eu os fundirei e os provarei; porque, como doutra maneira faria com a filha do meu povo?
8 Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit: one speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lies in wait for him.
Uma flecha mortífera é a sua língua, fala engano: com a sua boca fala de paz com o seu companheiro, mas no seu interior arma-lhe ciladas.
9 Shall I not visit them for these things?" says Jehovah; "shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?"
Porventura por estas coisas não os visitaria? diz o Senhor; ou não se vingaria a minha alma de gente tal como esta?
10 "For the mountains I will take up weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are laid waste so that no one passes through; nor can men hear the voice of the cattle. Both the birds of the sky and the animals have fled, they are gone."
Sobre os montes levantarei choro e pranto, e sobre as cabanas do deserto lamentação; porque já estão queimadas, e ninguém há que passe por ali, nem ouçam berro de gado: já desde as aves dos céus, até às bestas, andaram vagueando, e fugiram.
11 "I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant."
E farei de Jerusalém montões de pedras, morada de dragões, e das cidades de Judá farei uma assolação, de sorte que não haja habitante.
12 "Who is the wise man, that may understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of Jehovah has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passes through?"
Quem é o homem sábio, que entenda isto? e a quem falou a boca do Senhor, que o possa anunciar? porque razão pereceu a terra, e se queimou como deserto, sem que ninguém passe por ela.
13 Jehovah says, "Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked in it,
E disse o Senhor: Porquanto deixaram a minha lei, que dei perante a sua face, e não deram ouvidos à minha voz, nem andaram conforme ela,
14 but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them;
Antes andaram após o propósito do seu coração, e após os baalins, o que lhes ensinaram os seus pais,
15 therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Look, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
Portanto assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que darei de comer alosna a este povo, e lhe darei a beber água de fel.
16 I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.'"
E os espalharei entre nações, que não conheceram, nem eles nem seus pais, e mandarei a espada após eles, até que venha a consumi-los.
17 Thus says Jehovah of hosts, "Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skillful women, that they may come:"
Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: considerai, e chamai carpideiras que venham; e enviai por sabias, para que venham.
18 "and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.
E se apressem, e levantem o seu lamento sobre nós; e desfaçam-se os nossos olhos em lágrimas, e as nossas pálpebras se destilem em águas.
19 For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, 'How are we ruined. We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.'"
Porque uma voz de pranto se ouviu de Sião: Como somos destruídos! estamos mui envergonhados, porque deixamos a terra, porquanto transtornaram as nossas moradas.
20 "Yet hear the word of Jehovah, you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.
Ouvi pois, vós, mulheres, a palavra do Senhor, e os vossos ouvidos recebam a palavra da sua boca: e ensinai o pranto a vossas filhas, e cada uma à sua companheira a lamentação.
21 'For death has come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from outside, and the young men from the streets.'
Porque já a morte subiu pelas nossas janelas, e entrou em nossos palácios, para exterminar os meninos das ruas e os mancebos das praças.
22 Speak, 'Thus says Jehovah, "The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung on the open field, and as the handful after the harvester; and none shall gather them."'"
Fala: Assim diz o Senhor: Até os cadáveres dos homens jazerão como esterco sobre a face do campo, e como gavela detraz do segador, e não há quem a recolha.
23 Thus says Jehovah, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches;
Assim diz o Senhor: Não se glorie o sábio na sua sabedoria, nem se glorie o valente na sua valentia; não se glorie o rico nas suas riquezas.
24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am Jehovah who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says Jehovah.
Mas o que se glóriar glorie-se nisto, em que me entende e me conhece, que eu sou o Senhor, que faço beneficência, juízo e justiça na terra; porque destas coisas me agrado, diz o Senhor.
25 "Look, the days come," says Jehovah, "that I will punish all those who are circumcised in uncircumcision:
Eis que veem dias, diz o Senhor, e visitarei a todo o circuncidado com o incircunciso.
26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the people of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners of their hair cut off, who dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart."
Ao Egito, e a Judá, e a Edom, e aos filhos de Ammon, e a Moab, e a todos os que moram nos últimos cantos da terra, que habitam no deserto; porque todas as nações são incircuncisas, e toda a casa de Israel é incircuncisa de coração.
