< 1 Samuel 25 >

1 Samuel died; and all Israel gathered themselves together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Maon.
Samuel duek naah, Israelnawk boih amkhueng o moe, anih to qah o haih: anih loe a ohhaih vangpui Ramah ah aphum o. To naah David loe angthawk moe, Paran praezaek ah caeh tathuk.
2 There was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
Karmel vangpui ah im katawn, Maon ih kami maeto oh; anih loe angraeng parai moe, maeh sangto hoi tuu sang thumto tawnh; anih loe Karmel ah tuu mui to aah.
3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. And the woman was intelligent and beautiful, but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings; and the man was a Calebite.
Anih loe Nabal, tiah ahmin oh; a zu ih ahmin loe Abigail. Anih ih zu loe thaih kophaih katawn palungha kami ah oh moe, kranghoih parai nongpata ah oh; toe a sava loe Kaleb ih acaeng ah oh, poekset pongah kahoih ai hmuen to sak.
4 David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.
Nabal loe tuumui aah, tiah David mah taw hoiah thaih.
5 So David sent ten young men, and said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name.
To pongah thendoeng kami hato anih, to tih ai boeh loe Nabal khaeah Karmel vangpui ah caeh oh loe, kai ih ahmin hoiah anih to bansin oh;
6 Thus you are to say to my brother, 'Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.
anih khaeah, Na hinglung sawk nasoe; nangmah hoi na imthung takoh boih, nangmah ih kaminawk boih nuiah monghaih om nasoe.
7 And now, look, I have heard that you have shearers. Now your shepherds have been with us in the wilderness, and we did not hurt them, neither was there anything missing from them, all the while they were in Carmel.
Vaihi tuumui na aah, tiah ka panoek; nang ih tuutoep kaminawk kaicae khaeah oh o naah, nihcae to raihaih ka paek o ai; Karmel ah oh o nathung, nihcae ih hmuenmae tidoeh anghmaa ai.
8 Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes; for we come in a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand, to your servants, and to your son David.'"
Na thendoengnawk to dueng ah, nihcae mah na thui o tih hmang. To pongah poihsakhaih atue ah angzo kai ih thendoengnawk nuiah na koehhaih amtueng nasoe; na tamnanawk hoi na capa David hanah na tawnh ih hmuen to paek thoem ah, tiah thui pae oh, tiah a naa.
9 So the young men came and spoke to Nabal according to all those words on David's behalf, but he behaved arrogantly.
To ah phak o naah, David mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, David ih kaminawk mah Nabal khaeah thuih pae o moe, a zing o.
10 Nabal answered David's servants, and said, "Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.
Nabal mah David ih tamnanawk khaeah, David loe mi aa? Jesse capa loe mi aa? Vai tahang loe angmacae ih angraeng khae hoi loklam amkhraeng tamna paroeai oh o.
11 Shall I then take my bread, and my wine, and my meat that I have slaughtered for the shearers of my sheep, and give it to men who I do not know where they come from?"
Kawbangmaw kaimah ih tuumui aat kaminawk hanah ka boh pae ih moi, takaw hoi tui to ka lak moe, naa hoiah angzo kami maw, tiah ka panoek ai ih kami to ka paek thai tih? tiah a naa.
12 So David's young men turned on their way, and went back, and came and told him according to all these words.
To naah David ih kaminawk loe angqoi o moe, amlaem o let, nihcae mah to tiah thuih ih loknawk boih to thuih pae o.
13 David said to his men, "Every man put on his sword." So every man put on his sword. David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David; and two hundred stayed by the baggage.
David mah angmah ih thendoengnawk khaeah, Sumsen to sin oh, tiah a naa. To pongah nihcae loe sumsen to sin o boih, David doeh angmah ih sumsen to angnaeng toeng; David hoi nawnto caeh kaminawk loe cumvai palito oh o, kami cumvai hnettonawk mah hmuenmae to toep o.
14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, "Look, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master; and he railed at them.
Toe thendoeng maeto mah Nabal ih zu Abigail khaeah, Khenah, David mah praezaek hoiah ka angraeng bansin hanah angmah ih laicaehnawk to patoeh, toe anih mah to laicaehnawk to zoeh.
15 But the men were very good to us, and we were not hurt, nor did we miss anything as long as we went with them, when we were in the fields.
To laicaehnawk loe kaicae khaeah paroeai hoih o; kaicae han nganbawh kana paek ai; taw ah nihcae khae ka oh o nathung, tih hmuen doeh anghmaa ai.
16 They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
Aqum athun nihcae khaeah tuu toep hoi ka oh o naah, nihcae loe kaicae han sipae baktiah oh o.
17 Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his house; for he is such a worthless fellow that one can't speak to him."
To pongah vaihi timaw sak nahaeloe hoi tih, tiah poek ah; ka angraeng hoi anih ih imthung takohnawk loe amro boih han ih ni oh sut boeh. Anih loe kasae kami ah oh pongah, mi mah doeh anih khaeah lokthui thai mak ai, tiah a naa.
18 Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two bottles of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five measures of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.
Abigail loe karangah caeh moe, takaw cumvai hnetto, misurtui pailang hnetto, thongh tangcae tuu pangato ih moi, haek ih kamtong takho pangato, misurthaih kazaek takho cumvai hnetto lak moe, thaiduet thaih hoi sak ih takaw cumvai hnetto, hrang a phawhsak.
19 She said to her young men, "Go on before me. Look, I come after you." But she did not tell her husband.
To pacoengah a tamnanawk khaeah, Khenah, ka hmabang ah caeh oh; nangcae hnukah kang zoh han, tiah a naa. Toe to kawng to a sava Nabal khaeah thui pae ai.
20 It was so, as she rode on her donkey, and came down by the covert of the mountain, that look, David and his men came down toward her; and she met them.
Hrang angthueng moe, mae taeng ih tahawt thungah phak naah, David hoi anih ih kaminawk loe anih khaeah caeh o tathuk moe, nihcae hoi anghnuk o.
21 Now David had said, "Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him. He has returned me evil for good.
David mah, Hae kami ih hmuen maeto doeh anghmat han ai ah, anih ih hmuenmaenawk to taw ah azom ah ni ka toep o; ka sak o ih kahoih hmuen to kasae hmuen hoiah ang pathok.
22 God do so to David, and more also, if I leave of all that belongs to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall."
Khawnbangah, Nabal angmah hoi anih ih imthung takoh thung ih kami maeto loih nahaeloe, Sithaw mah David ih misa nuiah koeh baktiah sah nasoe, kanung parai ah doeh sah nasoe, tiah a naa.
23 When Abigail saw David, she hurried, and got off from her donkey, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground at his feet.
Abigail mah David to hnuk naah, hrang nui hoi karangah anghum tathuk moe, anih hmaa ah long ah akuep,
24 And she said, "On me, my lord, be the guilt; and please let your servant speak to you directly, and hear the words of your servant.
a khokkung ah tabok pae moe, Ka angraeng, ka nuiah khue, hae zaehaih hae ka nuiah khue om nasoe; tahmenhaih hoiah na tamna hae na hmaa ah lokthuisak raeh; na tamna ih lok hae tahngai raeh.
25 Please do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, did not see the young men whom you sent.
Kami kahoih ai, Nabal to ka angraeng nang mah tiah doeh poek khing hmah; angmah ih ahmin baktiah ni tuinuen doeh oh; anih ih ahmin loe, Nabal; anih loe kamthu tuinuen ni a tawnh; toe na tamna kai loe ka angraeng nang mah patoeh ih, thendoengnawk to ka hnu ai.
26 Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from blood guiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
Ka angraeng nang mah vaihi kami ih athii palong han ai ah, na ban hoi athii longsak han ai ah, Angraeng mah pakaa nasoe; Angraeng loe hing moe, nang doeh na hing baktih toengah, na misanawk hoi na hinghaih pakrong kaminawk loe, Nabal baktiah om o nasoe.
27 Now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.
Na tamna kai mah ka angraeng nang hanah kang sin ih hae tangqum hae, ka angraeng hnukbang kaminawk khaeah na paek pae nasoe.
28 Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Jehovah will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah; and evil shall not be found in you all your days.
Na tamna nongpata zaehaih to tahmen raeh; ka angraeng loe Angraeng ih misa ni tuk moe, ka angraeng loe a hing thung sakpazaehaih om ai, to pongah Angraeng mah ka angraeng hanah kacak im to sah pae tih.
29 Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.
Kami mah na hinghaih lak hanah angthawk moe, patom cadoeh, ka angraeng hinghaih to Angraeng Sithaw mah pop parai khosakhoihaih ah omsak tih, toe na misanawk hinghaih loe ngazai hoi zai ih lawkthluem baktiah ni om o tih.
30 It shall come to pass, when Jehovah has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and shall have appointed you prince over Israel,
Angraeng mah ka angraeng nuiah sak hanah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, anih khaeah kahoih hmuen to sak moe, anih to Israel kaminawk zaehoikung ah suek naah,
31 that this will have no cause of grief or a troubled conscience for my lord, that blood was shed without cause and that my lord has gained victory by his own hand. And when Jehovah has done well with my lord, then remember your servant."
ka angraeng mah kami to hum moe, hae hmuen kawng pongah lu lak naah, ka angraeng nuiah palungsethaih hoi kasae thuihaih om hmah nasoe. Angraeng mah ka angraeng nuiah kahoih hmuen sak naah, na tamna kai hae pahnet hmah, tiah a naa.
32 David said to Abigail, "Blessed is Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me.
David mah Abigail khaeah, Vaihniah kai tongh hanah nang patoehkung, Israel Angraeng Sithaw loe, tahamhoihaih om nasoe.
33 Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, that have kept me this day from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.
Na thuih ih kahoih lok pongah, vaihniah kami hum han caeh han ai ah pakaakung, ka ban hoi lu lak han ai ah paka kami, nang doeh tahamhoihaih om nasoe.
34 For indeed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there wouldn't have been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall."
Nang pacaekthlaek han ai ah pakaakung, Israel Angraeng Sithaw loe hing baktih toengah, kai tongh hanah karangah nang zo ai nahaeloe, khawnbang khodai naah Nabal ih kami maeto doeh loih mak ai, tiah a naa.
35 So David received of her hand that which she had brought him: and he said to her, "Go up in peace to your house. Look, I have listened to your voice, and have granted your request."
To naah anih mah sin pae ih hmuennawk boih to David mah talawk pae moe, lunghoihta hoiah na im ah amlaem lai ah; na lok to ka tahngai moe, na mikhmai doeh ka khet boeh, tiah a naa.
36 Abigail came to Nabal; and look, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
Abigail loe Nabal khaeah caeh; anih loe siangpahrang mah sak ih poih baktiah poih to a sak; anih loe paroeai poeknawm moe, mu to paqui pongah, khawnbang khodai khoek to, Abigail mah a sava khaeah tidoeh thui pae ai.
37 It happened in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
Khawnbang mu paquih cai naah, a zu mah Nabal khaeah kangcoeng hmuen kawng to thuih pae; to naah anih ih palung to angtawt ai anghak ving boeh pongah, thlung baktiah angcoeng ving.
38 It happened about ten days after, that Jehovah struck Nabal, so that he died.
Ni hato oh pacoengah, Angraeng mah Nabal to boh moe, a duek.
39 And David heard, and he said, "Blessed is Jehovah, who has taken my side in the matter of Nabal's insult, and has kept back his servant from evil. Jehovah has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head." David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to him as wife.
Nabal duek boeh, tiah David mah thaih naah, Kai patoek kami Nabal nuiah ban ang phok pae moe, kahoih ai hmuen sak han ai ah, ka ban ang patawnh pae pongah, Angraeng loe tahamhoihaih om nasoe; Nabal mah sak ih zaehaih loe angmah lu nuiah krak boeh, tiah thuih. To naah David mah kami to patoeh moe, Abigail to zu ah lak hanah duengsak.
40 When the servants of David had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, "David has sent us to you, to take you to be his wife."
A tamnanawk loe Karmel ah caeh o moe, anih khaeah, David mah nang hae a zu ah oh hanah ang laksak, tiah a naa o.
41 She got up and bowed herself with her face to the ground, and said, "Look, your servant is a lowly servant to wash the feet of your servants."
To naah anih mah angthawk moe, a mikhmai to long ah akuep tathuk pacoengah, Khenah, kai loe ka angraeng tamnanawk ih khok pasae tamna nongpata ah om nasoe, tiah a naa.
42 Then Abigail got up quickly and rode on a donkey, and with five female servants following her; and she followed the messengers of David, and became his wife.
Abigail loe karangah laa hrang nuiah angthueng, a taengah kaom nongpata pangato mah anih to caeh o haih; David ih laicaehnawk hnukah caeh moe, anih ih zu ah oh.
43 David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they both became his wives.
David loe Jezreel vangpui ih Ahinoam doeh zu ah lak; to tiah nihnik loe anih ih zu ah oh hoi hmaek.
44 Now Saul had given Mikal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.
Toe Saul mah David han paek ih a canu Mikal loe, Galim ih kami Laish capa Patiel hanah paek pae ving.
