1 Samuel 23

1 David was told, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors."

さて人々はダビデに告げて言った、「ペリシテびとがケイラを攻めて、打ち場の穀物をかすめています」。

2 Therefore David inquired of Jehovah, saying, "Shall I go and strike these Philistines?" Jehovah said to David, "Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah."

そこでダビデは主に問うて言った、「わたしが行って、このペリシテびとを撃ちましょうか」。主はダビデに言われた、「行ってペリシテびとを撃ち、ケイラを救いなさい」。

3 David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?"

しかしダビデの従者たちは彼に言った、「われわれは、ユダのここにおってさえ、恐れているのに、ましてケイラへ行って、ペリシテびとの軍に当ることができましょうか」。

4 Then David inquired of Jehovah yet again. Jehovah answered him, and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand."

ダビデが重ねて主に問うたところ、主は彼に答えて言われた、「立って、ケイラへ下りなさい。わたしはペリシテびとをあなたの手に渡します」。

5 David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

ダビデとその従者たちはケイラへ行って、ペリシテびとと戦い、彼らの家畜を奪いとり、彼らを多く撃ち殺した。こうしてダビデはケイラの住民を救った。

6 It happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having an ephod in his hand.

アヒメレクの子アビヤタルは、ケイラにいるダビデのもとにのがれてきた時、手にエポデをもって下ってきた。

7 Now it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. So Saul said, "God has sold him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering into a town that has gates and bars."

さてダビデのケイラにきたことがサウルに聞えたので、サウルは言った、「神はわたしの手に彼をわたされた。彼は門と貫の木のある町にはいって、自分で身を閉じこめたからである」。

8 Then Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

そこでサウルはすべての民を戦いに呼び集めて、ケイラに下り、ダビデとその従者を攻め囲もうとした。

9 David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here."

ダビデはサウルが自分に害を加えようとしているのを知って、祭司アビヤタルに言った、「エポデを持ってきてください」。

10 Then David said, "Jehovah, God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

そしてダビデは言った、「イスラエルの神、主よ、しもべはサウルがケイラにきて、わたしのために、この町を滅ぼそうとしていることを確かに聞きました。

11 And now, will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Jehovah, God of Israel, tell your servant." And Jehovah said, "He will come down."

ケイラの人々はわたしを彼の手に渡すでしょうか。しもべの聞いたように、サウルは下ってくるでしょうか。イスラエルの神、主よ、どうぞ、しもべに告げてください」。主は言われた、「彼は下って来る」。

12 Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" Jehovah said, "They will deliver you up."

ダビデは言った、「ケイラの人々はわたしと従者たちをサウルの手にわたすでしょうか」。主は言われた、「彼らはあなたがたを渡すであろう」。

13 Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went wherever they could go. And Saul was told that David had escaped Keilah; so he gave up the pursuit.

そこでダビデとその六百人ほどの従者たちは立って、ケイラを去り、いずこともなくさまよった。ダビデのケイラから逃げ去ったことがサウルに聞えたので、サウルは戦いに出ることをやめた。

14 David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but Jehovah did not deliver him into his hand.

ダビデは荒野にある要害におり、またジフの荒野の山地におった。サウルは日々に彼を尋ね求めたが、神は彼をその手に渡されなかった。

15 Now David was afraid that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

さてダビデはサウルが自分の命を求めて出てきたので恐れた。その時ダビデはジフの荒野のホレシにいたが、

16 Jonathan, Saul's son, set out and came to David at Horesh and encouraged him in Jehovah.

サウルの子ヨナタンは立って、ホレシにいるダビデのもとに行き、神によって彼を力づけた。

17 He said to him, "Do not be afraid; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; and you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you; and that also Saul my father knows."

そしてヨナタンは彼に言った、「恐れるにはおよびません。父サウルの手はあなたに届かないでしょう。あなたはイスラエルの王となり、わたしはあなたの次となるでしょう。このことは父サウルも知っています」。

18 They both made a covenant before Jehovah: and David stayed at Horesh, and Jonathan went to his house.

こうして彼らふたりは主の前で契約を結び、ダビデはホレシにとどまり、ヨナタンは家に帰った。

19 Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, "Doesn't David hide himself with us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

その時ジフびとはギベアにいるサウルのもとに上って行き、そして言った、「ダビデは、荒野の南にあるハキラの丘の上のホレシの要害に隠れて、われわれと共にいるではありませんか。

20 Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down. It will be our responsibility to deliver him up into the king's hand."

それゆえ王よ、あなたが下って行こうという望みのとおり、いま下ってきてください。われわれは彼を王の手に渡します」。

21 Saul said, "You are blessed by Jehovah; for you have had compassion on me.

サウルは言った、「あなたがたはわたしに同情を寄せてくれたのです。どうぞ主があなたがたを祝福されるように。

22 Please go investigate again, and look around and learn the place where his swift foot is, for I am told that he is very clever.

あなたがたは行って、なお確かめてください。彼のよく行く所とだれがそこで彼を見たかを見きわめてください。人の語るところによると、彼はひじょうに悪賢いそうだ。

23 See therefore, and find out all the hiding places where he hides himself, and come back to me when you know for certain, and I will go with you. And it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search for him among all the thousands of Judah."

それで、あなたがたは彼が隠れる隠れ場所をみな見きわめ、確かな知らせをもってわたしの所に帰ってきなさい。その時わたしはあなたがたと共に行きます。もし彼がこの地にいるならば、わたしはユダの氏族をあまねく尋ねて彼を捜しだします」。

24 They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of Jeshimon.

彼らは立って、サウルに先立ってジフへ行った。さてダビデとその従者たちは荒野の南のアラバにあるマオンの荒野にいた。

25 Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.

そしてサウルとその従者たちはきて彼を捜した。人々がこれをダビデに告げたので、ダビデはマオンの荒野にある岩の所へ下って行った。サウルはこれを聞いて、マオンの荒野にきてダビデを追った。

26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

サウルは山のこちら側を行き、ダビデとその従者たちとは山のむこう側を行った。そしてダビデは急いでサウルからのがれようとした。サウルとその従者たちが、ダビデとその従者たちを囲んで捕えようとしたからである。

27 But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hurry and come; for the Philistines have made a raid on the land."

その時、サウルの所に、ひとりの使者がきて言った、「ペリシテびとが国を侵しています。急いできてください」。

28 So Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Rock of Divisions.

そこでサウルはダビデを追うことをやめて帰り、行ってペリシテびとに当った。それで人々は、その所を「のがれの岩」と名づけた。

29 David went up from there, and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.

ダビデはそこから上ってエンゲデの要害にいた。
