1 Kings 12

1 Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

Y fue Roboam a Siquem; porque todo Israel había venido a Siquem para hacerlo rey.

2 And it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt), he came straight to his own city in the land of Zererah in the hill country of Ephraim.

Y aconteció, que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que aún estaba en Egipto, porque había huido de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto;

3 And they sent and called for him. And Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

enviaron y le llamaron. Vino pues Jeroboam y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:

4 "Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you."

Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas ahora tú disminuye algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos.

5 He said to them, "Depart for three days, then come back to me." The people departed.

Y él les dijo: Idos, y de aquí a tres días volved a mí. Y el pueblo se fue.

6 King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, "What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?"

Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo?

7 They spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever."

Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si tú fueres hoy siervo de este pueblo, y lo sirvieres, y respondiéndole buenas palabras les hablares, ellos te servirán para siempre.

8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

Mas él, dejado el consejo de los viejos que ellos le habían dado, tomó consejo con los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y estaban delante de él.

9 He said to them, "What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, 'Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?'"

Y les dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?

10 The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;' you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist.

Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, le respondieron, diciendo: Así hablarás a este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; mas tú disminúyenos algo; así les hablarás: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.

11 Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'"

Ahora pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, mas yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.

12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, "Come to me again the third day."

Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam; según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo: Volved a mí al tercer día.

13 The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,

Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejado el consejo de los ancianos que ellos le habían dado;

14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions."

y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.

15 So the king did not listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

Y no oyó el rey al pueblo; porque era ordenación del SEÑOR, para confirmar su palabra, que el SEÑOR había hablado por medio de Ahías silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.

16 When all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel. Now see to your own house, David." So Israel departed to their tents.

Y cuando todo el pueblo vio que el rey no les había oído, le respondió estas palabras, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No hay heredad en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, a tus estancias! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David! Entonces Israel se fue a sus estancias.

17 But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.

18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

Y el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero le apedreó todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se esforzó a subir en un carro, y huir a Jerusalén.

19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.

Así se rebeló Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

20 It happened, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

Y aconteció, que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron y le llamaron a la congregación, y le hicieron rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá.

21 When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

Y cuando Roboam vino a Jerusalén, juntó toda la casa de Judá y la tribu de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para hacer guerra a la casa de Israel, y reducir el reino a Roboam hijo de Salomón.

22 But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Mas vino palabra del SEÑOR a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo:

23 "Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,

Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, diciendo:

24 'Thus says Jehovah, "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me."'" So they listened to the word of Jehovah, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Jehovah.

Así dijo el SEÑOR: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno a su casa; porque este negocio yo lo he hecho. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Dios, y volvieron, y se fueron, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.

25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel.

Y reedificó Jeroboam a Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, reedificó a Penuel.

26 Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora se volverá el reino a la casa de David,

27 If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah."

si este pueblo subiere a sacrificar a la Casa del SEÑOR en Jerusalén; porque el corazón de este pueblo se convertirá a su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán a mí, y se tornarán a Roboam rey de Judá.

28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to the people, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt."

Y habiendo tenido consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo: Harto habéis subido a Jerusalén; he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto.

29 He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

Y puso el uno en Bet-el, y el otro puso en Dan.

30 Then this thing became a sin, for the people went before the one at Bethel and before the one as far as Dan.

Y esto fue ocasión de pecado; porque el pueblo iba a adorar delante del uno, hasta Dan.

31 And he made houses on high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

Hizo también casa de altos, e hizo sacerdotes de entre el pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví.

32 Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; he did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

Entonces instituyó Jeroboam solemnidad en el mes octavo, a los quince del mes, conforme a la solemnidad que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre un altar. Así hizo en Bet-el, sacrificando a los becerros que había hecho. Ordenó también en Bet-el sacerdotes de los altos que él había fabricado.

33 He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.

Sacrificó pues sobre el altar que él había hecho en Bet-el, a los quince del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su corazón; e hizo fiesta a los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar incienso.
