1 Corinthians 9
1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?
Ne suis-je pas libre? Ne suis-je pas apôtre? N’ai-je pas vu Jésus-Christ Notre Seigneur? N’êtes-vous pas mon œuvre dans le Seigneur?
2 If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my office of apostle in the Lord.
Et si pour d’autres je ne suis pas apôtre, je le suis cependant pour vous; car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le Seigneur.
3 My defense to those who examine me is this.
Ma défense contre ceux qui m’interrogent, la voici:
4 Have we no right to eat and to drink?
N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de manger et de boire?
5 Have we no right to take along a wife who is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?
N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de mener partout avec nous une femme sœur, de même que les autres apôtres et les frères du Seigneur, et Céphas?
6 Or have only Barnabas and I no right to not work?
Ou moi seul et Barnabé, n’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de le faire?
7 What soldier ever serves at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard, and does not eat of its fruit? Or who feeds a flock, and does not drink from the flock's milk?
Qui jamais fait la guerre à ses frais? Qui plante une vigne et ne mange pas de son fruit? Qui paît un troupeau et ne mange point du lait du troupeau?
8 Do I say these things according to human authority? Or does not the Law also say the same thing?
N’est-ce que selon l’homme que je dis ces choses? La loi-même ne les dit-elle pas?
9 For it is written in the Law of Moses, "Do not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain." Is it for the oxen that God cares,
Car il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse: Tu ne lieras pas la bouche au bœuf qui foule les grains? Est-ce que Dieu a souci des bœufs?
10 or does he say it assuredly for our sake? Yes, it was written for our sake, because he who plows ought to plow in hope, and he who threshes in the hope of having a share.
N’est-ce pas plutôt pour nous qu’il dit cela? Car c’est pour nous qu’il a été écrit, que celui qui laboure doit labourer dans l’espérance de recueillir, et celui qui bat le grain dans l’espérance d’y avoir part.
11 If we sowed to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we reap your fleshly things?
Si nous avons semé en vous des biens spirituels, est-ce une grande chose que nous moissonnions de vos biens temporels?
12 If others partake of this right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right, but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the Good News of Christ.
Si d’autres usent de ce pouvoir à votre égard, pourquoi pas plutôt nous-mêmes? Cependant nous n’avons pas usé de ce pouvoir; au contraire, nous souffrons tout pour ne pas mettre d’obstacle à l’Evangile du Christ.
13 Do you not know that those who serve around sacred things eat from the things of the temple, and those who wait on the altar have their portion with the altar?
Ne savez-vous pas que les ministres du temple mangent de ce qui est offert dans le temple, et que ceux qui servent à l’autel ont part à l’autel?
14 Even so the Lord ordained that those who proclaim the Good News should live from the Good News.
Ainsi le Seigneur lui-même a prescrit à ceux qui annoncent l’Evangile de vivre de l’Evangile.
15 But I have used none of these things, and I do not write these things that it may be done so in my case; for I would rather die, than that anyone should make my boasting void.
Pour moi, je n’ai usé d’aucun de ces droits. Je n’écris donc pas ceci pour qu’on en use ainsi envers moi; car j’aimerais mieux mourir que de laisser quelqu’un m’enlever cette gloire.
16 For if I preach the Good News, I have nothing to boast about, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the Good News.
Car si j’évangélise, la gloire n’en est pas à moi; ce m’est une nécessité, et malheur à moi, si je n’évangélise!
17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
Si je le fais de bon cœur, j’en aurai la récompense; mais si je ne le fais qu’à regret, je dispense seulement ce qui m’a été confié.
18 What then is my reward? That, when I preach the Good News, I may present the Good News without charge, so as not to abuse my authority in the Good News.
Quelle est donc ma récompense? C’est que, prêchant l’Evangile, je le prêche gratuitement, pour ne pas abuser de mon pouvoir dans l’Evangile.
19 For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.
Aussi, lorsque j’étais libre à l’égard de tous, je me suis fais l’esclave de tous, pour en gagner un plus grand nombre.
20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law;
Je me suis fait comme Juif avec les Juifs, pour gagner les Juifs;
21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law.
Avec ceux qui sont sous la loi, comme si j’eusse été sous la loi (quoique je ne fusse plus assujetti à la loi), pour gagner ceux qui étaient sous la loi; avec ceux qui étaient sans loi, comme si j’eusse été sans loi (quoique je ne fusse pas sans la loi de Dieu, mais que je fusse sous la loi du Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui étaient sans loi.
22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I may by all means save some.
Je me suis rendu faible avec les faibles, pour gagner les faibles. Je me suis fait tout à tous, pour les sauver tous.
23 Now I do all things for the sake of the Good News, that I may be a joint partaker of it.
Ainsi, je fais toutes choses pour l’Evangile, afin d’y avoir part.
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, that you may win.
Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans la lice courent tous; mais qu’un seul remporte le prix? Courez donc de telle sorte que vous le remportiez.
25 Now everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.
Tous ceux qui combattent dans l’arène s’abstiennent de toutes choses: eux, pour recevoir une couronne corruptible, nous, une incorruptible.
26 I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air,
Pour moi, je cours aussi, mais non comme au hasard; je combats, mais non comme frappant l’air;
27 but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
Mais je châtie mon corps, et le réduis en servitude, de peur qu’après avoir prêché aux autres je ne sois moi-même réprouvé.
