Psalms 18
1 [For the Chief Musician. By David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said, ] I love you, LORD, my strength.
Au maître-chantre. — De David, serviteur de l'Éternel, qui prononça, à la louange de l'Éternel, les paroles de ce cantique, lorsque l'Éternel l'eut délivré de la main de tous ses ennemis et de la main de Saül. Il dit: Je t'aime, ô Éternel, toi qui es ma force!
2 The LORD is my Rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
L'Éternel est mon rocher, ma forteresse et mon libérateur! Mon Dieu est le roc où je trouve un refuge, Mon bouclier, mon puissant sauveur, mon rempart!
3 I call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
Je m'écrie: «Loué soit l'Éternel!» — Et je suis délivré de mes ennemis.
4 The waves of death surrounded me, and the currents of ungodliness overwhelmed me.
Les liens de la mort m'avaient enveloppé; Les torrents de la destruction m'avaient épouvanté.
Oui, les liens du Sépulcre m'avaient entouré; Les filets de la mort m'avaient surpris. (Sheol h7585)
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried out to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry before him came into his ears.
Dans ma détresse, j'invoquai l'Éternel, Je criai vers mon Dieu. De son palais, il entendit ma voix; Les cris que je poussais vers lui parvinrent à ses oreilles.
7 Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken, because he was angry.
Alors la terre fut ébranlée, et elle trembla; Les fondements des montagnes chancelèrent. Ils s'ébranlèrent, parce que l'Éternel était courroucé.
8 Smoke went out of his nostrils. Consuming fire came out of his mouth. Coals were kindled by it.
La fumée montait de ses narines, Et de sa bouche sortait un feu dévorant: en faisait jaillir des charbons embrasés.
9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down. Thick darkness was under his feet.
Il inclina les cieux et il descendit, Ayant sous ses pieds une sombre nuée.
10 He rode on a cherub, and flew. Yes, he soared on the wings of the wind.
Il était monté sur un chérubin, et il volait; Il était porté sur les ailes du vent.
11 He made darkness his hiding place, his canopy around him thick clouds dark with water.
Il fit des ténèbres sa retraite; déploya autour de lui, comme une tente, Des masses liquides, de sombres nuages.
12 From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed on, with hailstones and coals of fire.
Du sein de la splendeur qui le précédait, S'échappaient des nuées, de la grêle et des charbons de feu.
13 The LORD also thundered in the sky. The Most High uttered his voice.
L'Éternel tonna dans les cieux; Le Très-Haut fit retentir sa voix, Au milieu de la grêle et des charbons de feu.
14 And he sent out arrows and scattered them, and he shot lightning bolts and routed them.
Il lança ses flèches, et il dispersa mes ennemis; Il lança des éclairs nombreux, et ils furent mis en déroute.
15 And the depths of the sea appeared. The foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
Alors le lit de la mer apparut, Et les fondements du monde furent mis à découvert, A ta voix menaçante, ô Éternel, Au souffle du vent de ta colère.
16 He sent from on high. He took me. He drew me out of many waters.
Dieu étendit sa main d'en haut, et il me saisit; Il me retira des grandes eaux.
17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
Il me délivra de mon puissant ennemi, De mes adversaires qui étaient plus forts que moi.
18 They came on me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support.
Ils m'avaient surpris au jour de ma détresse; Mais l'Éternel a été mon appui.
19 He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
Il m'a mis au large; Il m'a délivré à cause de son amour pour moi.
20 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me.
L'Éternel m'a traité selon ma justice; Il a récompensé la pureté de mes mains.
21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Car j'ai suivi avec soin les voies de l'Éternel, Et je n'ai pas été infidèle à mon Dieu.
22 For all his ordinances were before me. I did not put away his statutes from me.
Tous ses commandements sont présents devant moi, Et je ne m'écarte point de ses préceptes.
23 I was also blameless with him. I kept myself from my iniquity.
J'ai été sans reproche envers lui, Et je me suis mis en garde contre mon penchant au mal.
24 Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
Oui, l'Éternel m'a traité selon ma justice, Selon la pureté de mes mains, que ses yeux ont reconnue.
25 With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the innocent you show yourself innocent.
Avec celui qui est, fidèle, tu es fidèle; Avec l'homme intègre, tu es intègre.
26 With the pure you show yourself pure. And with the crooked you show yourself tortuous.
Avec celui qui est pur, tu te montres pur; Mais avec le pervers, tu te joues de sa perversité!
27 For you will save a humble people, but the eyes of the proud you will bring low.
Car c'est toi qui sauves le peuple des humbles, Et, qui abaisses les regards des superbes.
28 For you light my lamp. The LORD my God lights up my darkness.
C'est toi qui allumes mon flambeau; C'est l'Éternel, mon Dieu, qui fait resplendir mes ténèbres.
29 For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall.
Avec toi j'attaque une troupe armée; Avec mon Dieu je franchis le rempart.
30 As for God, his way is perfect. The word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.
Les voies du Dieu fort sont parfaites. La parole de l'Éternel est éprouvée: Il est le bouclier de tous ceux qui cherchent leur refuge en lui.
31 For who is God, except the LORD? Who is a rock, besides our God,
Qui donc est Dieu, sinon l'Éternel? Qui est un rocher, sinon notre Dieu?
32 the God who girds me with strength, and makes my way blameless?
C'est ce Dieu qui me ceint de force, Et qui aplanit mon chemin.
33 He makes my feet like deer's feet, and sets me on my high places.
Il rend mes pieds agiles comme ceux des biches, Et il m'affermit sur les sommets.
34 He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms bend a bow of bronze.
Il exerce mes mains au combat, Et mes bras bandent un arc, d'airain.
35 You have also given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand holds me up, and your help has made me great.
Tu me donnes pour bouclier ton puissant secours. Ta main droite me soutient, Et ta bonté me rend fort.
36 You have enlarged my steps under me, My feet have not slipped.
Tu élargis le chemin sous mes pas, Et mes pieds ne chancellent point.
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and I did not turn back until they were destroyed.
Je poursuis mes ennemis, je les atteins, Et je ne reviens qu'après les avoir exterminés.
38 I struck them through, so that they did not rise. They fell beneath my feet.
Je les écrase, et ils ne peuvent se relever: Ils tombent sous mes pieds.
39 For you have equipped me with strength for the battle. You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
Tu m'as ceint de force pour le combat; Tu fais plier sous moi mes adversaires.
40 You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.
Tu fais fuir devant moi mes ennemis; J'extermine ceux qui me haïssent.
41 They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but he did not answer them.
Ils crient, mais personne ne vient les délivrer! Ils crient vers l'Eternel, mais il ne leur répond pas.
42 Then I ground them as fine as the dust on the surface of a path. Like the mud in the streets, I trampled them.
Je les broie comme la poussière livrée au vent; Je les balaie comme la boue des rues.
43 You have delivered me from the strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known shall serve me;
Tu me fais triompher des attaques de mon peuple; Tu me places à la tête des nations. Des peuples inconnus deviennent mes sujets;
44 as soon as they hear of me they obey me. Foreigners come cringing to me;
Dès qu'ils entendent parler de moi, ils se soumettent. Les fils de l'étranger me rendent hommage.
45 they are not bound in chains.
Les fils de l'étranger sont abattus, Et ils sortent tremblants de leurs retraites.
46 The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock. Exalted be the God of my salvation,
L'Éternel est vivant! Béni soit mon rocher! Que Dieu, mon libérateur, soit exalté!
47 even the God who executes vengeance for me, and subdues peoples under me.
Ce Dieu m'assure la vengeance; Il m'assujettit les peuples.
48 He rescues me from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man.
Tu me délivres de mes ennemis; Tu m'élèves au-dessus de mes adversaires; Tu me sauves de l'homme violent.
49 Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name.
C'est pourquoi je te louerai, ô Éternel, parmi les nations, Et je psalmodierai à la gloire de ton nom.
50 He gives great deliverance to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to David and to his descendants, until forever.
L'Éternel accorde au roi, son élu, de grandes victoires; Il exerce sa miséricorde en faveur de son oint, De David et de sa postérité, à jamais.
